What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1998 Tiffin Allegro, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

SAFE PLUS STEERING STABILIZER MODEL 41-230 SERIAL NO 05005817 INSTALLED ON MY 1998 FREIGHTLINER/ALLEGRO BUS RV SUDDENLY BEGAN SEVERE BINDING WHICH REPEATEDLY FROZE THE STEERING SYSTEM UNTIL IT RELEASED WITH A LOUD SNAP, CAUSING THE STEERING TO "JUMP" DANGEROUSLY, UNPREDICTABLY AND UNCONTROLLABLY. FORTUNATELY FOR ME AND MY FAMILY, THE ONSET OCCURRED ON A SERVICE ROAD GOING TO OUR STORAGE LOT. HAD THIS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CERTAIN DISASTER. I'VE BEEN DRIVING FOR 45 YEARS AND NOTHING EXCITES ME; THIS CERTAINLY DID. THIS WAS A DISASTROUS FAILURE MODE WHICH RENDERED THE RV STEERING UNCONTROLLABLE EVEN AT 10 MPH. *JB
