2026 Toyota Camry Hybrid Interior & seats Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the interior system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Interior & seats reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The front seat assemblies in my 2026 Toyota Camry XSE have developed an abnormal creaking/popping movement and noise during normal use. The issue appears to involve the seat structure, frame, mounting mechanism, or related components underneath the front seats. The vehicle and affected seat components are available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? My concern is that the abnormal popping/creaking and movement may indicate looseness or another problem within the seat structure or mounting system. Because the seat is an occupant-restraint-related component and is designed to remain securely positioned during normal driving and a collision, I am concerned about whether the seat would perform as intended in an emergency or crash. I have not experienced a crash or injury related to this issue. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. I brought the vehicle to an authorized Toyota dealership for evaluation of the front-seat creaking/popping concern. The dealership was able to evaluate the concern and advised me that they were seeking authorization from Toyota regarding repair of the seats. I was subsequently asked to pick up the vehicle while they waited for Toyota's decision/authorization on how to proceed. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle has been inspected/evaluated by an authorized Toyota dealership regarding the seat concern. To my knowledge, the vehicle itself has not been physically inspected by Toyota corporate/manufacturer representatives, police, or insurance representatives. The dealership has communicated with Toyota regarding authorization for the repair. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they

Driver seat feels like something is loose in the back and is popping randomly almost like somebody’s kicking you in the back. It can be very distracting while driving. This happened on the 2026LE I had that I turned in because of that problem. I’ve had it seen several times by the dealership for this issue and there’s no solution. There’s also an issue with the wiper blades going extremely too slow for rain, especially in South Florida with weather that includes torrential downpour. You cannot safely see even at full speed wiper. This may seem like a time in which you should just pull over, but I was born and raised driving in South Florida in the rain and I’ve had multiple vehicles that I’ve never had this issue before. Electronic system can be fidgety. The rear cross traffic warning stopped working. I was not aware and did not realize I had somebody in close proximity that could happen accidentally hit.

Everytime I break and accelerate there’s a popping noise coming from the middle back part of the driver seat. I took it to a Toyota dealerships and they drove it and it did the same thing. And all they could do was tell me wait until there’s a recall.

Passenger seat constantly popping when braking or accelerating. You can also feel a large bag in the lower lumbar area. All very uncomfortable for what I thought would be the best car we have ever owned. Very disappointed in Toyota, as seat popping happened in 2025 models too

Driver seat feels very hot when driving. This I never experienced before with other car. AC is turned on even at low temperature but not even that beats the heat on the driver seat.

I am reporting an issue with the driver seat in my 2026 Toyota Camry SE model. The seat exhibits abnormal movement, shifting, instability, and popping sensations in the seatback (lumper support) area during normal driving conditions, specifically while accelerating or coming to a stop. It is also more noticeable during warming climates than cooler climates. The issue feels like looseness or movement of internal seat components and creates a distraction and potential safety concern while operating the vehicle. It has become very uncomfortable to sit and drive the vehicle. It feels like if someone is kicking the seat from behind. I brought the vehicle to three different Toyota dealership for inspection. The dealership acknowledged the issue and opened a TAS (Technical Assistance System) case with Toyota Motor Corporation. An attempted repair and inspection were performed; however, the issue still persists. After researching online owner forums and discussions, I found multiple reports from other Toyota Camry owners describing similar driver seat problems, suggesting this may not be an isolated incident. The ongoing seat movement negatively affects driver confidence and comfort and may create a safety risk by distracting the driver or altering seating position while driving.

I am reporting an issue with the driver seat in my 2026 Toyota Camry Le purchased in January of 2026 The drivers seat exhibits abnormal movement, shifting, instability, and popping sensations in the seatback area during normal driving conditions such as stopping or getting in and out of car. It feels like the seat will fold in. The issue feels like looseness or movement of internal seat components may create a potential safety concern while operating the vehicle I have not yet briught the vehicle to a Toyota dealership for inspection. However after researching online owner forums and discussions, I found multiple reports from other Toyota Camry owners describing similar driver seat problems, suggesting this may not be an isolated incident. The ongoing seat movement negatively affects driver safety potentially. Owners in those forums have not reported a satisfactory fix or resolution in many cases.

The driver's seat produces a noticeable popping sensation against my back during acceleration, braking, and when driving over bumps. The issue appears to originate from the lumbar support assembly within the driver's seat. I have also observed that the condition occurs much more frequently in warmer temperatures. I brought the vehicle to the dealership for inspection; however, they were unable to duplicate the concern during my visit. Because they could not reproduce the issue, I was informed that no further investigation or repairs would be performed. This is particularly frustrating because the problem appears to be well documented among owners of 2025 and 2026 Toyota Camry vehicles, with numerous similar complaints reported through NHTSA filings, online owner forums, and social media discussions. I have already taken the car to my dealership twice, with no solution. The recurring popping sensation is distracting while driving and has the potential to divert the driver's attention from the road, creating a safety concern. I am also now experiencing back and hip pain.

Drivers seat has popping sensation on my back when accelerating, braking, and going over bumps. This issue appears to be coming from the lumbar assembly of the drivers seat. I've also noticed it is much more frequent when the weather is warmer (75 degrees +). I took the vehicle to the dealer and they were not able to duplicate the issue. Because they were not able to duplicate the issue I was told nothing could be done and that they would not investigate any further. Even though this seems to be a well known issue for the 2025 and 2026 Camry's as it appears many others have submitted similar complaints to the NHTSA, Reddit, etc. The service manager at the dealership even admitted Toyota was aware of this issue and supposedly installed the "fix" in my 2026 Camry at the factory. I have also reached out to Toyota Brand Engagement to voice my displeasure with the performance of the drivers seat, still waiting for a resolution from them. This poses a safety risk as is it is very distracting to the driver of the vehicle.

I purchased a new 2026 Toyota Camry XLE and have experienced a potentially defective driver seat lumbar support condition since delivery. The lumbar support remains excessively hard and protruding even when adjusted to the lowest setting. The condition causes significant lower back discomfort and pain during ordinary driving. The issue appears abnormal and may involve the lumbar mechanism, seat foam, or internal seat structure. The vehicle has very low mileage, and the condition has been present from the beginning of ownership. I contacted Toyota and the dealership, and the vehicle is scheduled for inspection. I am submitting this complaint because the seat condition may affect safe vehicle operation by causing driver discomfort, pain, and difficulty maintaining a normal driving position during extended use. I request investigation into whether this is a defect affecting the seat lumbar support system or seat assembly.

Two days after purchasing vehicle, I noticed a popping noise coming from the bottom driver seat, and the seat back of the driver seat. I took vehicle to the dealer, and the dealer was unable to replicate the issue. I noticed this issue every time I drive. I opened up the seat cover and noticed a loose piece in the seat frame. I think this may be causing the issue. I will be taking the vehicle to the dealer again to see what can be done.
