Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
While driving my 2026 Toyota Camry LE Hybrid at approximately 10 mph in a parking lot, the vehicle accelerated on its own without any input from me. I applied hard braking to bring the vehicle under control. No collision occurred. The specific component or system that failed is UNKNOWN — I suspect the speed control, powertrain, or electrical throttle system, but this has not yet been diagnosed. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. My safety and the safety of others were put at risk because the vehicle accelerated unexpectedly at low speed in a parking lot, an environment with pedestrians, parked vehicles, and other close-proximity hazards. I had to brake hard to stop it, which could have resulted in a collision with another vehicle, a pedestrian, or a fixed object had I not been able to react in time. The problem has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer. I reported the incident to Toyota the day after it occurred; Toyota opened case number 260811002989 and scheduled a diagnostic inspection appointment. As of this filing, that inspection has not yet taken place. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms before or during the incident. The dashboard showed no malfunction indicators at any point.
While actively moving at highway speeds on July 13, 2026, the vehicle suffered an instantant, total loss of all 12V electrical auxiliary power. The dashboard flashed 'Hybrid System Malfunction' and 'Drive-Start Control Malfunction' before all digital instrument clusters, center infotainment displays, and cabin lights went completely dark. Power steering and braking assist dropped to emergency backup thresholds, creating an extreme safety hazard. The vehicle was moved to a dealership where it has remained disabled for 17 days waiting on factory engineering guidance.
Interior & seats
Reports naming seats, latches, locks, linkages and interior fittings.
From owner reports, verbatim
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The front seat assemblies in my 2026 Toyota Camry XSE have developed an abnormal creaking/popping movement and noise during normal use. The issue appears to involve the seat structure, frame, mounting mechanism, or related components underneath the front seats. The vehicle and affected seat components are available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? My concern is that the abnormal popping/creaking and movement may indicate looseness or another problem within the seat structure or mounting system. Because the seat is an occupant-restraint-related component and is designed to remain securely positioned during normal driving and a collision, I am concerned about whether the seat would perform as intended in an emergency or crash. I have not experienced a crash or injury related to this issue. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. I brought the vehicle to an authorized Toyota dealership for evaluation of the front-seat creaking/popping concern. The dealership was able to evaluate the concern and advised me that they were seeking authorization from Toyota regarding repair of the seats. I was subsequently asked to pick up the vehicle while they waited for Toyota's decision/authorization on how to proceed. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle has been inspected/evaluated by an authorized Toyota dealership regarding the seat concern. To my knowledge, the vehicle itself has not been physically inspected by Toyota corporate/manufacturer representatives, police, or insurance representatives. The dealership has communicated with Toyota regarding authorization for the repair. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they
Driver seat feels like something is loose in the back and is popping randomly almost like somebody’s kicking you in the back. It can be very distracting while driving. This happened on the 2026LE I had that I turned in because of that problem. I’ve had it seen several times by the dealership for this issue and there’s no solution. There’s also an issue with the wiper blades going extremely too slow for rain, especially in South Florida with weather that includes torrential downpour. You cannot safely see even at full speed wiper. This may seem like a time in which you should just pull over, but I was born and raised driving in South Florida in the rain and I’ve had multiple vehicles that I’ve never had this issue before. Electronic system can be fidgety. The rear cross traffic warning stopped working. I was not aware and did not realize I had somebody in close proximity that could happen accidentally hit.
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.

This is the only way I can get my message to you that I know of. It is very distracting having to deal with all the ADAS systems. They are actually a distraction for me, taking my eyes off the road when I most need them on the road to figure out why the "nanny" alarms are going off. I don't know why these things are being added to vehicles, but we have to turn them off as much as we can. If I get in an accident, it will be because of these features not because I am not paying attention to the road. Thank you for letting me share my perspective. The contact owns a 2026 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the instrument panel was blank. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V511000 (Electrical System). The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,500.
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
When the vehicle is running and the gear is in "Park," a rattling noise comes from the front after about 15–16 minutes; this occurs the moment the engine switches back to hybrid mode following the initial warm-up phase. This happens every day; I sit inside the vehicle for an hour during my break at work. This is not normal. Please investigate this issue. I purchased the vehicle four months ago. Thank you...
Saturday may 23 at night my car started showing a message that states “Braking Power Low Stop in a Safe Place See Owner's Manual” I took it to Toyota on Tuesday may 2026 they said it was fine and nothing was wrong even after I said that message kept appearing at least five times each time I was driving the vehicle since Saturday. After they checked it the problem got worse and now it appears 95% of the time I’m driving. Not just that but on may 27 at approximately 9:10 pm my check engine turned on and also system lady took turned on and secondary collision break malfunction turned on. Along side many other warning comes and go but the main ones that stay are the check engine and the braking power low one. I am worried because this all started happening whenever I accelerated even just a little bit and it could end up causing accidents.

Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
In an emergency stop on dry pavement, my braked did not operate in a straight line. The vehicle swerved. My statement is attached as Page 4 to an uploaded form supplied by the dealership abbreviated as "UB Interview Guide". You have my permission to inspect the vehicle which is in the possession of the Toyota of Santa Barbara dealership. Toyota of Santa Barbara has not to date inspected or repaired my vehicle. I am not aware that anyone has inspected the vehicle. I consider the problem to be one that could cause death or serious bodily injury if the vehicle is driven without repair. A red box appeared on my dashboard during the incident, but I had no time to read or process whatever message may have appeared. Please see my statement prepared within 24 hours of the incident.
Un-Intended Accelerations, the accelerator pedals either stocked, jammed in the Carpet, Triggered Un-Intended Acceleration due to Safety Use cases not designed correctly Once Triggered the un-intended acceleration the brake system is not working •Make: Toyota •Model: Camry •Year: 2026 •VIN: [XXX] On Sunday, [XXX], at approximately [XXX], I operated the subject vehicle (2028 Toyota Camry, VIN: [XXX]) for an approximate distance of three to five meters along my residential driveway. My intention was to proceed forward briefly, then shift into reverse to continue my planned route. Upon releasing my foot from the accelerator pedal in preparation for this maneuver, the vehicle unexpectedly and rapidly accelerated without any input from me. The rate and intensity of acceleration was unprecedented in my experience operating motor vehicles. I immediately applied pressure to the brake pedal in an attempt to stop the vehicle; however, the braking system was unresponsive and failed to slow or halt the vehicle's forward motion. As a result of this uncontrolled acceleration, the vehicle collided with the front porch of my residence. Upon impact, all airbags deployed. The collision caused extensive damage to my property, including a fractured and displaced porch support column. I sustained multiple serious injuries during this incident, including a severe laceration to my left leg, burn injuries across both hands, body, and legs, loss of mobility in my left arm and neck, and significant pain in my lower back region. Since the incident, I have experienced persistent sleep disturbances and difficulty concentrating due to recurring mental imagery of the collision. The physical injuries and psychological impact have substantially affected my daily functioning and quality of life. This incident was reported to local law enforcement and documented under Police Report Number [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

This is a manufacturer safety recall (NHTSA #25V869) for a loose bolt inside the hybrid inverter that could cause loss of motive power or a vehicle fire. The vehicle was sold to me as new with the recall already open and unrepaired. As of this date, Toyota has not made the remedy available, more than 6 months after the recall was announced. I am concerned about driving the vehicle given the fire/power-loss risk described in the official recall notice.
I had just bought the car from the Dealer and was to drive it back home. I got about 30 miles from the Dealership and the check engine light came on. It stated malfunction in the awd system so now on two wheel drive then it stated start control malfunction and finally hybrid system malfunction. I returned it to the dealership and they said that the first diagnostic stated it was throwing high voltage. Looking on line when I got home I noticed the recall of many Toyota camrys for the loose bolt causing this issue and there is yet to be a fix for it. The manufacturer should take all those cars back so they cannot be sold and cause a risk till they can fix it. It makes a dealership look bad and puts innocent people at risk if they are not aware of the issue.

While washing my car, I noticed that the clips securing the front bumper—specifically on the right side, beneath the headlight—had come loose. I took the car to the Toyota service center on Monday, June 22nd. They inspected the bumper and found no signs of scraping or impact, so they agreed to repair it under warranty. I picked up the car that evening, and the bumper appeared to be fixed; however, when I got home and checked again, the clips had popped out once more. I returned to the service center and pointed out that the repair hadn't held. They took photos and said they would report the issue to Toyota. They got back to me during the week and scheduled an appointment for Monday, July 6th. I dropped the car off on that Monday, and on Thursday, I received a message stating the repairs were complete. I picked up the car Thursday evening, and the bumper looked fine. On Saturday, I inspected the bumper again; this time, the clips on the left side—under the headlight—had come loose. I reported the issue to the Toyota service center on Monday, and they promised to fix it as soon as possible. I am still waiting; it has been five weeks. I am completely dissatisfied with this car. I am lodging this complaint because, after researching online, I discovered that such problems are very common with the front bumpers of the 2026 Toyota Camry. Thank you.
The vehicle’s front bumper under the passenger side keeps becoming loose with a large noticeable gap even after fixed by the dealership. Appears to be weak clips used by Toyota during the manufacturing process. Vehicle is new, purchased 1/2026 and this recurrent issue showed up at 1567 miles, vehicle has never been in an accident. Safety is at risk as in a matter of time I believe the bumper will fall off while the vehicle is in motion, presenting a danger to driver and other occupants, and a danger to other motorists. This issue seems to exist since previous 2025 models, Toyota appears not to care enough to provide a permanent fix.

Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
Brand new 2026 Camry is swaying left and right when driving on concrete roads at 40 mph and above. It was felt like I lost steering control; the whole car felt like it’s “floating” or weaving. Steering truly is difficult to control, specially on wet conditions. this Vehicle is equipped with factory 19” wheels with wide, low profile tires with low aspect ratio and short sidewalls; Bridgestone turanza tires 235/40/r19. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer saying this is known as tramlining. Vehicle was inspected by manufacturer several times. There’s no any warning lamps or messages or other symptoms of the problem. It appears that inappropriate tires were installed on this vehicle by manufacturer, which leads to a loss of steering control.
The contact owns a 2026 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at 10-15 MPH, the contact attempted to activate the cruise control mode system for the first time since purchasing the vehicle. The system failed to activate, and a message indicating that the cruise control was not activated was displayed. The contact attempted to activate the system a second time, and the vehicle significantly accelerated, the steering wheel and brake pedal locked up, causing the vehicle to crash through the garage door of a house and into an unoccupied parked vehicle. The air bags deployed. The vehicle automatically connected to Toyota Safety Connect, and the contact requested the assistance of police officers. There was property damage. The garage door, the front, and the rear end of the other vehicle were damaged. The contact sustained abrasion on the right arm from the air bag, and abrasion on the lower left leg. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an unknown location. The vehicle was then towed to a collision repair shop, where it was totaled by the insurance company. The vehicle was then towed to Coparts. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The insurance company had given the manufacturer authorization to access the Event Data Recorder (EDR). The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.

The car is owned by AVIS Car Rental. I happened to be driving this vehicle in the downtown Chicago area with only 11,820 miles on it the airbag light turned on and the passenger active status light for the airbag just completely turned off not indicating if the passenger airbag was enabled or disabled. As soon as I turned off the vehicle and turn it back on the airbag light didn't turn on anymore and everything started working as normal again. On different groups on Facebook I have seen people posting about the same issue with their own Camrys. Being a big company or corporation most likely no one will take the time to report the issue but I rather do my own part and do it for them. It's a 2026 Toyota Camry LE

TIRE HAS PRESENTED A BUBBLE IN THE SIDE WALL. WAS OBSERVED DURING DAILY PRE DRIVING SURVEY BY OWNER OPERATOR.
Year: 2026 Make: Toyota Model: Camry LE Hybrid VIN: [XXX] Mileage at Time of Discovery: Approximately 750 miles Date Purchased: Approximately 20 days before discovery (22nd May 2026) Tire Brand/Model: Goodyear Assurance RangeMax Tire DOT Number: 1M63P LF1R 1626 I purchased this Toyota Camry new approximately 20 days ago. The vehicle currently has approximately 750 miles on it. During car washing, I discovered visible bulges on all four tires. The tires are Goodyear Assurance RangeMax with DOT number 1M63P LF1R 1626. The bulges appear on each tire sidewall and raise concerns about a possible manufacturing defect or structural failure within the tires. The vehicle has not been involved in any accident, impact, pothole strike, or other event that would reasonably explain identical bulging on all four tires. I visited dealership and they confirmed it's manufacturing defects. Also, Goodyear service centre also confirmed it's manufacturing defects. Because tire sidewall bulges can indicate internal tire damage and increase the risk of tire failure, blowout, loss of vehicle control, crash, injury, or death, I believe this condition presents a significant safety concern. The fact that all four original-equipment tires exhibit similar bulging at very low mileage suggests the possibility of a defect affecting the tires or their manufacture. I am submitting this complaint so that NHTSA can investigate whether other consumers may be experiencing similar issues with Goodyear Assurance RangeMax tires installed on new Toyota Camry vehicles. Safety Concern: Potential tire sidewall defect resulting in bulging on all four tires at approximately 750 miles, creating a risk of tire failure, blowout, and loss of vehicle control. At certain times of the day ,the windshield becomes milky with feathery, spotted pattern obscuring my visibility while driving. At first, we thought it needed a proper cleaning. We now realize we have a defective windshield. It is called windshield delamination. The car was brought to Toyota of Coconut Creek. The service advisor, Wilford Charles was provided photo documentation of the windshield. If you put on the defogger or drive with windows up the spotting will disappear in about 5 minutes. The service advisor said they would NOT honor the windshield replacement unless they physically saw the incident happening. Then it would be 2 weeks until Toyota would come to inspect to say if they would honor the warranty and replace the windshield. Toyota is forcing me to have to pay for a new windshield and denying it is defective. Please advise. Thank you.

Seat belts
Reports naming seat belts, buckles, retractors and pretensioners.
From owner reports, verbatim
The driver of a 2026 Toyota Camry Hybrid experienced a serious safety event involving both the seatbelt restraint system and vehicle speed control systems. While operating the vehicle, the driver-side seatbelt allegedly disengaged/unlatched unexpectedly. The driver was properly restrained prior to the incident and did not intentionally release the seatbelt. The disengagement occurred immediately before or during a single-vehicle crash. During the crash sequence, airbags deployed. However, it appeared that the vehicle continued to move forward under cruise control or sustained throttle input even after airbag deployment.
The seatbelt in a 2026 Toyota Camry Hybrid (VIN: [XXX]) has unexpectedly unbuckled during normal driving conditions. This has occurred on three separate occasions. On [XXX], the seatbelt unbuckled during vehicle operation, contributing to injury during a single-vehicle accident in Texas. The injured occupant was evaluated at a military hospital. The seatbelt was properly fastened prior to the incident, and no warning lights were present. This appears to be a potential defect in the seatbelt restraint system and presents a serious safety risk. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
