2019 Toyota Camry Visibility Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the visibility system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Visibility reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I believe the windshield is defective. I have had multiple chips from small debris but it leaves a surprisingly large crack. These were from interstate driving. I had four different glass crack claims in the last two years. These cracks are deep and concerning that they could penetrate through the windshield.

My 2019 Toyota Camry LE has just started about 2 weeks ago. My windshield wipers go on by itself. I have seen a recall on this exact point but now can't find it now. A short somewhere.

The wiper doesn’t operate fast enough in the fastest setting to move the rain from the drivers view in heavy rain. Driver is forced to reduce speed to 40 mph which is dangerous on an interstate. Also, the passenger side wiper pushes the water from 3/4 of the windshield into the drivers view. This is widely discussed on Toyota forums but no motor upgrade is offered that make the wipers move faster. Florida storms require faster settings to see vehicles and the roadway.

Vehicle sunroof exploded while driving home from work. The interior sunroof screen was 90% closed causing only a few pieces of glass to fall into the car striking myself while driving. When the incident occurred, it sounded like a shotgun going off over my head causing me to duck and swerve almost into another vehilce on the road. This is the second such incident involving this car and it happened on the exact same road within a half a mile of the previous incident 3 years earlier. No rocks or debris caused this. Possible elevation change due to going uphill on hwy. Insurance claim has been initiated. There were no warning signs of this.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEFROSTERS FOR THE FRONT AND REAR WINDOWS WERE NOT INSTALLED PROPERLY. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH TOYOTA OF BRAINTREE (210 UNION ST, BRAINTREE, MA 02184, 781-848-9300) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE DEFROSTER WAS NOT INSTALLED IN THE FRONT WINDOW AND COULD NOT BE INSTALLED BY THEM. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO TRADE IN HER VEHICLE FOR ANOTHER ONE AND LOSE HER $6,177.13 DOWN PAYMENT IN THE PROCESS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THEY WOULD PAY THE TAXES ON THE NEW VEHICLE AND INSTALL AN ALARM SYSTEM THAT COST $2,000. THE REMAINING $4,177.13 COULD NOT BE TRANSFERRED TO THE NEW VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS USED UP AS A DOWN PAYMENT ON THE OLD VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND ADVISED HER TO WORK IT OUT WITH THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200.

CAR MANUFACTURER LIKE TOYOTA HAS AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM INSTALLED IN ALL OF THEIR VEHICLES SINCE 2017. IT CAUSES EXTREME DISCOMFORT FOR OTHER CAR DRIVERS ON THE HIGHWAY,ESPECIALLY THOSE DRIVING IN SAME DIRECTION. THE HIGH BEAM FROM THE CAR BEHIND REFLECTS ON THE DRIVER IN THE CAR WITH IN FRONT VIA THE SIDE MIRROR. THE PROBLEM IS EXACERBATED DUE TO WHITE LIGHTS ON THESE CARS. THE GLARE FROM THE CAR BEHIND IS SO MUCH, THAT EVENTUALLY I HAVE TO LOWER MY SIDE VIEW MIRROR SUCH THAT I CANNOT EVEN SEE THE CARS BEHIND. THIS IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY FREQUENT ISSUE ON THE HIGHWAYS AND INTERSTATE.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
