What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2023 Toyota Camry, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
My backup camera which is tied to my entire infotainment system goes off and on while driving the vehicle, causing distractions. It is particularly unsafe when backing up and the back of camera shuts off and reboot, and comes back on.
I came out to my vehicle and attempted to start it as usual and the EPB would not disengage and I had to have it towed to the dealer. They had to manually disengage it and told me I needed a new switch. I purchased the switch and that did not fix the problem, all of my warning lights have been on the vehicle ever since due to error code "PARK BRAKE MALFUNCTION" i cannot use my parking brake and all of my other ADAS safety features are disabled as a result of this, ABS light, PCS, including Cruise Control, Lane Departure, etc are ALL disabled due to this EPB Malfunction.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
My 2023 Toyota Camry has developed an intermittent defect where the ignition key becomes stuck and cannot be removed even though the dashboard shows the vehicle is in Park. The only way to remove the key is to disconnect the vehicle's battery, which is not a normal or safe operating procedure. The problem occurs intermittently and has happened multiple times. I believe there may be a defect involving the ignition key release system, shift interlock, park position switch, or a related electrical component. This condition could leave drivers stranded or unable to secure their vehicle and creates a potential safety concern. I am submitting this complaint so the issue can be investigated and to determine whether other 2023 Toyota Camry owners are experiencing the same problem.
Component/System: Smart Key System / Automatic Door Locking System I own a 2023 Toyota Camry LE equipped with a Smart Key System. I parked the vehicle, turned off the engine, and left the smart key inside the vehicle. My [XXX] child remained securely strapped into a rear child safety seat and was sleeping inside. I briefly stepped outside to wipe dust from the windshield while standing next to the vehicle. After the driver’s door closed, the vehicle automatically locked itself with the smart key still inside. I did not intentionally lock the vehicle. I was unable to unlock the doors because the smart key was locked inside the vehicle. My [XXX] child was trapped inside the locked vehicle, creating an emergency situation. To rescue my child, I had no choice but to break the driver’s side window. There were no warning lights or warning messages before the incident. The cause is unknown. The vehicle has not yet been inspected to determine why it automatically locked with the smart key inside. Based on the circumstances, the Smart Key System either failed to detect the smart key or the vehicle improperly allowed the doors to lock despite the key remaining inside. I believe this presents a serious safety risk because it can trap children inside the vehicle. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.

Transmission (UB80E) 2023 Toyota Camry; when pushing on the gas pedal there is a whining/whistling sound: vehicle shutters and all at once takes off like an airplane; gear shifting is not right. Inspected 0n 6/8/2026 by Toyota Dealer - noise coming from the transmission due to the final drive going out. No DTC's present at this time.

Vehicle started to leak gasoline from the tank filler cap while parked in garage with a full tank of gas. Created a highly flammable/explosive environment. Gas tank was not “topped off” when filled. This has been occurring for the last 2 months. No apparent damaged of defects noted with filler cap. There are no fuel/engine error codes. Vehicle operates normally.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions; however, the cause of the failure was not determined, and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and denied a buyback request. The contact expressed concerns that the vehicle was unsafe to drive due to the fuel leak. The car randomly puts the parking brake on. I got to drive and the parking brake has activated. The car when placed in park has always made a noise, but prior to the parking brake thing, it started sounding like a squeal instead of the usual noise

Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
We bought our 2023 Camry brand new off the lot and had no idea until the first rainstorm we were in that there was an issue with the wiper motor. Anytime there is moderate to hard rainfall and we turn the wipers on high they run at a low speed causing poor to no visibility. We have to pull over every time wait out the rain. We’ve mentioned our concern many times to the dealership where we have our Toyotas serviced and they just tell us they don’t see a recall for this problem. This is incredibly dangerous and hazardous and it needs to be fixed - we just don’t know how to go about it at this point.
The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, there was an abnormal mildew odor inside the cabin of the vehicle. The contact later discovered that the front passenger’s side carpet was wet from rainwater coming from the undercarriage of the vehicle. The carpets were replaced. The cause of the failure was unknown. The contact indicated that the front windshield glass had cracked on several occasions, although no objects had struck the windshield. Additionally, the Lane Departure feature had become inoperable. The cause of the failures was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 8,000. The VIN was not available.

Tires & wheels
Reports naming tires, wheels, hubs, or the tire-pressure monitoring system.

235/45R 18 94V Tires emit very loud road noise at various speeds. I have rotated tires every 5,000 miles. I have aligned the front end 2x to correct problem. Tires swerve/jerk in a turn. Problems began at about 25,000 miles. It just rolled over 35,000 miles. Toyota dealership has examined the problem, driven the car, and declare there is no warranty.
235/45R18 94V. Hankook Kinergy GT While driving at 40-50 mph driver rear tire split between the sidewall and the treads, completely. It split was most of the way around (240 degrees) and there was no connection left between the sidewall and the treads. Needless to say pressure wax zero. Car does monitor tire pressure and prior to the deflation no indication of a problem was noted. The car is only 10 months old with about 16000 miles on them, and the tires were supposed to be rotated by the dealer every 5-6,000 miles, which we requested.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
