Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

ON THE BUSY I 680 CLOVERLEAF RAMP IN OMAHA, NE, MY 2013 ROCKET TOURING THROTTLE FAILED. THE FAILURE FELT LAS THOUGH A CABLE END BROKE OFF. AFTER I OPENED UP THE THROTTLE HOUSING BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND INVESTIGATED, I DISCOVERED THE CABLES WERE FINE BUT THAT THE THROTTLE SLEEVE TAB FAILED INSIDE THE GRIP. I WALKED HOME AND THEN HAD MY BIKE TOWED HOME. I'VE READ OF NUMEROUS FAILURES ON THE TRIUMPH.RAT AND OTHER TRIUMPH WEBSITES OF HEATED GRIP SLEEVES BREAKING. I HAVEN'T READ ABOUT THIS FAILURE ON BIKES WITHOUT THE HEATED GRIP ACCESSORY. THESE FAILURES APPARENTLY OCCUR ON BOTH THE THUNDERBIRD AND ROCKET MODELS, WHICH SHARE THE SAME HEATED GRIP ACCESSORY. MY BIKE IS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD (SECOND OWNER) AND I'VE PROBABLY USED THE HEATED GRIPS A DOZEN TIMES. I HAVE NOT USED THE OPTION IN A FEW WEEKS AS THE WEATHER IS WARMER. WHILE IT'S CONJECTURE, THE COMPOSITE MATERIAL THAT THE THROTTLE SLEEVE IS COMPOSED OF SEEMS VERY THIN AND TOO PLIABLE. I DO NOT ABUSE MY BIKE NOR SLAM THE THROTTLE. I ALSO OWN A HONDA GL1800 W/ HEATED GRIPS AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM W/ THAT BIKE IN 6 YEARS. *TR
