Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

EXACT SAME CONCERN AS THE REPORT LISTED IN COMPLAINT 10554076. THE TANK, ONCE REMOVED FROM BIKE, LOSES SHAPE AND CANNOT BE RE-INSTALLED WITHOUT *EXTREME* AND EXCESSIVE FORCE. PRIOR TO REMOVING THE TANK, I NOTED THAT THE TANK WAS STRAINING THE THREE MOUNTING BUSHINGS ON THE FRAME. BASED ON DIALOGUE WITH OTHER RS AND SPRINT OWNERS HERE AND ABROAD, THERE SEEMS TO BE A CONSISTENT DIALOGUE AS THIS ISSUE OCCURRING WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF ETHANOL INTO THE COMMON FUEL SUPPLY.

THERE IS AN EXISTING RECALL ON THIS MODEL AND SEVERAL OTHERS FOR THE PLASTIC FUEL CONNECTORS, DEFECT INVESTIGATION PE03053 / NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 04V156000. MY 2004 SPRINT RS, WHICH HAD THE RECALL WORK DONE, WAS PARKED FOR EXTENSIVE, UNRELATED, WORK, WHEN A FRIEND WITH A TRIUMPH DAYTONA CAME OVER. HE HAD NOT HAD THE RECALL DONE ON HIS BIKE AND HIS FUEL CONNECTOR BROKE WHILE HE WAS HERE. I REMOVED THE CONNECTOR FROM MY 2004 SPRINT RS AND INSTALLED IT ON HIS DAYTONA AND GOT HIM BACK ON THE ROAD. HE ORDERED ME A REPLACEMENT CONNECTOR FROM A TRIUMPH DEALER, TRIUMPH PART NUMBER T1241165. THE PART THAT ARRIVED, DATED OCTOBER 1ST, 2014, WAS THE PLASTIC FITTING THAT WAS SUBJECT TO RECALL. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT MY PART NUMBER IS CORRECT, AND THAT HE IS NO LONGER ABLE TO ORDER THE ALUMINUM PART USED TO REPLACE THE PLASTIC ONE IN THE RECALL, AS THAT PART NUMBER HAS BEEN SUPERSEDED BY THE NUMBER FOR THE PLASTIC PART. IN BRIEF: TRIUMPH IS SUPPLYING A PART SUBJECT TO RECALL INSTEAD OF THE REPLACEMENT PART THAT SHOULD BE SUPPLIED. *TR

WHEN DOING MAINTENANCE ON MY TRIUMPH, I TAKE OFF THE GAS TANK. SO AFTER DOING MY MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS, THE BOLT UP FRONT AND THE TWO BOLTS IN BACK OF TANK DO NOT ALIGN UP WITH HOLES. IT SEEMS THE TANK HAS SWOLLEN OR HAS GOTTEN BIGGER. I MANAGE TO FASTEN TANK BACK TO FRAME BY STRIPING THREADS OR USING SPACERS AND LONGER BOLTS SO I CAN GET THAT LITTLE BIT OF LEVERAGE AND ANGLE TO REACH THE HOLES. I THINK IT IS DO TO THE ETHANOL ADDED TO OUR GASOLINE WHICH IS DEFORMING THE PLASTIC TANKS. THIS IS DISAPPOINTING TO SEE WHEN I SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON THIS MOTORCYCLE. *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
