Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.
0
Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
1
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR

Mar 26, 2026
6,994 units potentially affected
The defect: ABC BUS Inc is recalling certain 1999-2013 Van Hool C2045, 2004-2013 Van Hool T2145, 2013-2022 Van Hool TX45, 2013-2023 Van Hool CX45, and 2016-2022 Van Hool CX35 vehicles. The front entrance door may have the incorrect glaze on the lower curb view window. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 205, "Glazing Materials."
The risk: The incorrect glaze may reduce the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Dealers will inspect and install a nontransparent vinyl cover over the window as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 20, 2026. Owners may contact ABC Bus customer service at 1-877-427-7278. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning April 30, 2026.

The defect: Van Hool N.V. (Van Hool) is recalling certain 2000-2014 C2045, 2016 CX45, and 1998-2013 T2145 vehicles equipped with Ricon Baylift Wheelchair Lifts. When the lift's outer barrier is fully deployed, it may not withstand a sufficient amount of force, which could cause it to fail. As such, these lifts fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 403, "Platform Lift Systems."
The risk: In the event that a mobility device pushes into the outer barrier, the barrier may fail, increasing the risk of injury for the lift occupant.
The remedy: Ricon will reinforce the outer barrier with additional supports, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on November 30, 2021. Owners may contact Van Hool's customer service at 1-877-427-7278 or 1-407-656-7977. Van Hool's number for this recall is P1528-SB2067.

Manufacturer communications

A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

SUSPENSION

The control arms of the front and trailing axles are equipped with a flexible ball-joint at the chassis side. Van Hool has several suppliers for the repair kit of this flexible ball-joint. All of the repair kits contain a flexible ball-joint, a spacer and a snap ring. Due to not equal thickness of the spacer in the different kits, it is important to install all three the kit parts when replacing a flexible ball-joint. Do not mix parts of different repair kits!

VISIBILITY/WIPER

TO CHECK EMERGENCY SIDE WINDOW OPERATION To ensure trouble-free operation, the emergency side windows must be checked on a regular basis. This will allow you to confirm the proper operation of the emergency exit handle and unlatching mechanism, as well as the proper installation and function of the window seals

SB2468

SUSPENSION

Van Hool recently changed-over in production to a “longer” articulation shaft (VH11717611) to fasten the wheel-suspension arms to the steering knuckle carrier/hub carrier. Field experience has shown that this change-over has a positive impact on the lifespan of the rubber bushings. The “longer” articulation shaft may be used with the M18 as well as with the M20 fastening system (refer to figures 2 and 3).

SB2372B

This service bulletin provides you with information about the location of emergency side window decals so that the vehicle meets the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) in the U.S and the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) in Canada about this subject.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
