2000 Volkswagen Passat Tires & wheels Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the tire or wheel system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Tires & wheels reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

AT AROUND 12:30 TODD MCFADDEN (STORE MANAGER OF DUNN TIRE LLC 1170 CENTRAL AVE. DUNKIRK, NY 14048) ADVISED TO [XXX] (TIRE TECH) TO APPLY A TIRE THAT HAD BEEN RUN ON FLAT FOR AN UNKNOWN DISTANCE ON A CUSTOMERS CAR WITH OUT THE CONSENT OR EVEN HAVING INFORMED THE CUSTOMER OF THIS 2000 VW PASSAT. [XXX] REFUSED SAID LABOR AND THE ORDER WAS CARRIED OUT BY ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL OF THE COMPANY. [XXX] WAS DISMISSED FROM HIS DUTIES FOR THE DAY AFTER REFUSING THE LABOR. HE ADVISED TO THE STORE MANAGER AS WELL AS THE DISTRICT MANAGER THAT THIS PRACTICE WAS UNSAFE AND COULD POTENTIALLY BE DEADLY TO THE INSTALLER OF THE TIRE AS WELL AS TO THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS OF THE VEHICLE. BEING A NYS LICENSED SHOP THEY HAVE A DUTY TO KEEP THE CUSTOMER SAFE TO THE BEST OF THEIR ABILITIES AND THAT DID NOT HAPPEN TODAY. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

CONTINENTAL ECOPLUS 195/65 R15 RADIAL TIRES WERE 2 YRS OLD WITH APPROX. 25,000 MILES ON THEM. MY MECHANIC NOTICED TWO TIRES HAD BUBBLES IN SIDEWALLS (DRIVER SIDE FRONT & REAR) AND WERE ON THE VERGE OF BLOWOUTS. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES WITHOUT FURTHER DAMAGE OR CRASH. NOW WITH 4 NEW TIRES (SAME MODEL) THAT ARE 2 WEEKS OLD, YESTERDAY I DISCOVERED THAT ONE TIRE HAD 12.5 PSI (FRONT PASSENGER SIDE) WHILE OTHER 3 WERE AT 30 PSI. FAULTY AGAIN? *JB
