The defect: Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2002-2017 Freightliner Cascadia, Century Class, Columbia and Coronado trucks and Western Star 4700, 4900, 5700, 5900 and 6900 trucks. These vehicles are equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers that may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. The risk: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
The remedy: DTNA will notify owners, and instruct them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on April 11, 2018. DTNA Special Tools Group has approved the use of Haweka Axis4000 aftermarket alignment system for use on DTNA products at DTNA service locations. The Axis4000 system uses the reference points required by DTNA for precise, accurate, and repeatable measurements. Axis4000 is a sophisticated, user-friendly system that utilizes computer based camera-radio technology and references the center line of the frame for measuring and providing alignment results to DTNA specifications.

The modified parked regeneration strategy has been standard on GHG17 units since the start of GHG17 production and was added to EPA10 and GHG14 units with a software update. The modified regeneration utilizes an improved strategy to clean the DOC inlet face and reduce downtime due to DOC face plugging.

HDEP GHG17 engines are not equipped with turbo wastegates. Steps in this troubleshooting involving wastegates were removed.
