The driver's seat wiring harness on my daughter's 2007 Acura MDX has failed under normal operating conditions. The physical adjustment and movement of the driver's seat causes the factory wiring harness to over-tension and fracture internally. This has resulted in an intermittent, escalating failure of the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), throwing diagnostic trouble code DTC 71-11 ("open circuit in the driver's seat position sensor"). This is a known manufacturer engineering defect documented under Acura Technical Service Bulletin TSB 11-023. This defect poses an immediate safety hazard because the vehicle's computer automatically disables the driver's side airbag safety deployment when the circuit loses connection. The manufacturer is currently refusing to cover the repair due to the age of the vehicle, despite it being a critical safety-restraint system failure that leaves the driver unprotected in a collision. (The exact date of first onset is estimated, as this safety defect is an ongoing, intermittent electrical failure that began several months ago but only recently became more frequent. We also were originally unaware that the airbag warning light coming on meant the airbags were disabled, or we would have brought the car in sooner.)

As I was driving on 278 headed south traveling at approximately 65mph, the radio shut off as well as the car. There was a warning light that said "Check emission" The ABS light would come on as well I had to try to get the car into the far right lane and restarted the car. I was able to restart the car and made it home with the car periodically completely shutting off. As I was driving the radio would briefly go on and off as well. This was the first time this had happened. The safety issue was that there was absolutely no warning and at the time I was traveling with traffic. There was nothing that could have caused this other than some type of mechanical failure.

The engine does not start at once and when the key is turned off to try again, the engine explodes and the upper part of the engine case is completely torn off. At this time, there was a huge explosion sound like a bomb exploding and a lot of black smoke came out. It's not really a rocket engine, which is a huge force, but I really don't understand how much pressure was applied in the engine of an ordinary car, so that the engine cover was broken by the explosion. Even if a person intentionally smashed the engine cover like this, it would be impossible. If such an accident occurred while running, it is thought that there would have been many casualties. Although it is an old car, it was used without any problems until yesterday, and it is understandable that the car does not start even if there is a problem. I think that such a big engine explosion produced a problematic engine by Honda Acura. There must be various engineering reasons for the explosion, but we believe that it is a problem that should never happen again by identifying the cause, so we report it with photos. Please investigate to find out the cause and prevent further accidents.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 ACURA MDX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED ELECTRICAL FAILURES WHERE THE POWER DOORS UNLOCK AND LOCK WITHOUT WARNING. ADDITIONALLY, THE WINDOWS WOULD RAISE AND LOWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 84,000.

MY 2007 ACURA MDX IS EXPERIENCING A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING PUMP. ACURA ISSUED AN EXTENSION ON THE WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT THAT EXTENSION ONLY LASTED SEVEN YEARS. AS SOMEONE WHO ACQUIRED THE CAR AFTER 2014 I WAS AUTOMATICALLY NOT QUALIFIED IN THIS COMMON PROBLEM. ACURA HAS ISSUED A RECALL FOR OTHER MODEL CARS BUILT IN THIS SAME YEAR USING THE SAME POWER STEERING PUMP. YET THE RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 12V222000 DOES NOT INCLUDE MODEL MDX. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW "WHY" MDX WAS NOT ALSO PART OF THE RECALL SEEING AS THOUGH IT IS THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS, AND PARTS USED FOR THE POWER STEERING PUMP, HOSES, AND SEALS.

OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS HAVE HAD TO INEXPLICABLY JUMP MDX WHEN IT FAILS TO START, USUALLY AFTER SITTING OVER NIGHT. (CONFIRMED NO AUXILIARY POWER LEFT ON.) WILL BE FINE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, AND SYMPTOMS REAPPEAR. HAVE NOW CHANGED BATTERY TWICE IN PAST YEAR. FOUR MONTHS AFTER MOST RECENT BATTERY CHANGE, BATTERY WAS DEAD AGAIN. THIS TIME AFTER JUMPED THE CAR THREW SOME ADDITIONAL WARNING LIGHTS AROUND CHARGING SYSTEM. AFTER TRYING TO RETURN TO THE PARKING SPACE, THE CAR STARTED WAS NOT DRIVING PROPERLY, SEEMS TO BE ELECTRICAL. AFTER READING FORUMS ONLINE MY SYMPTOMS MATCH VERY CLOSELY TO OTHERS THAT HAVE A HANDSFREELINK ISSUE ON THIS MODEL MDX. (PARASITIC POWER DRAW.) CONTACTING ACURA TODAY, AS THIS TIME THE CAR IS NOT DRIVE-ABLE.

These SKUs are Exhaust Manifolds with Catalytic Converters. The customer communication requested return of unsold inventory due to a loss of CARB certification. These SKUs can no longer be sold as they do not meet CARB standards, but parts on vehicles are not effected.
AIR BAGS; EQUIPMENT

"REIMBURSEMENT FORM - ON SOME 200713 MDX AND 201012 ZDX VEHICLES LOCATED IN COLD AREAS, THE FRONT AND REAR ACTIVE DAMPERS MAY LEAK. WHILE LEAKS ON THE REAR ACTIVE SUSPENSION ARE VISIBLE, THE FRONT ACTIVE DAMPERS ARE MOUNTED IN AN INVERTED POSITION AND THE LEAK IS NOT VISIBLE ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE DAMPER. IF AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF DAMPER OIL HAS LEAKED, THE ACTIVE DAMPERS MAY MAKE A CLUNK OR A BANG SOUND WHEN DRIVING ON ROUGH ROADS OR OVER SPEED BUMPS."
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
