2013 BMW 328I Body & structure Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the body or structure system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Body & structure reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Passenger door lock failed and does not allow the door to be opened in an emergency. The door is designed to be unlocked by the first pull of the door handle then unlatched with the second pull of the handle, however after the first handle pull the lock immediately locks again preventing the second pull from unlatching the door. The system would be available for inspection. This problem has been reproduced and confirmed by manufacturer's dealer, but has not been inspected The electric door lock actuator had failed about a year ago, but still allowed the door lock to be used manually without any disruption to being able to open the door.

WHEN ATTEMPTING TO OPEN BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOORS, PULLING ON THE HANDLE TWICE WOULD NOT UNLOCK AND OPEN THE DOOR. THE ONLY WAY TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IS BY PRESSING THE ELECTRICAL UNLOCK BUTTON. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY, THE DATE BELOW IS ONLY ONE OF THE MANY OCCURRENCES. THE DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIX IT 4 TIMES. NONE HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IF WE NEEDED TO EXIT THE CAR AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS DISABLED, WE WOULD BE UNABLE TO. I HAVE VIDEOS OF THIS HAPPENING BUT THE FORM WON'T LET ME UPLOAD THEM.
