BMW R1200GS 2010 MOTORCYCLE PART ON THROTTLE BODY WHERE THE THROTTLE CABLE ATTACHES TO THE THROTTLE BODY KEEPS ON CRACKING. IT IS A PLASTIC PART WHEN ALL PREVIOUS MODELS WERE METAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES ON MY BIKE SO FAR. THE INDIVIDUAL PART IS NOT AVAILABLE AND YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE TOTAL THROTTLE BODY $546 + $400 LABOR. THERE IS ALSO THE DANGER OF THE THROTTLE JAMMING WHILE IN OPERATION DUE TO THESE CRACKED AND BROKEN LOOSE PARTS. I WAS IN MOTION AND FELT THROTTLE STICK AND THEN RELEASE SEVERAL DIFFERENT TIMES WHILE I WAS IN THE HOV LANE ON THE FREEWAY. I HAVE REPAIR DOCUMENTATION ON FILE FOR ALL 3 REPLACED THROTTLE BODIES BUT DON'T HAVE THE ABILITY TO SCAN THEM. IF YOU NEED COPIES PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND I WILL GET THEM SCANNED AT KINKOS AND SEND THEM TO YOU. THIS HAPPENED IN MAY AND I AM WORRIED ABOUT THE LACK OF RESPONSE BMW HAS TO THIS ISSUE WHICH IS A MATERIAL DESIGN FLAW THAT COULD END UP HURTING A MOTORCYCLIST IF THE THROTTLE JAMS AT SPEED. I SEE FROM DIFFERENT WEB SITES THAT THIS IS HAPPENING ON DIFFERENT BMW MODELS WITH THE SAME THROTTLE BODY. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN THE MILEAGE IS ABOVE 40,000 MILES. PLEASE KEEP ME INFORMED ON WHAT THE SITUATION IS WITH THIS SINCE I AM WORRIED AND DON'T TRUST MY MOTORCYCLE NOW. I AM AN OLDER RIDER (75YRS) NOT SOME HOT SHOT THAT ABUSES MY MOTORCYCLE. I HAVE BEEN RIDING FOR OVER 45 YEARS AND THIS IS MY 4TH BMW. I DID TALK TO THE BMW REP WHO WAS AT MY LOCAL DEALER BUT TO NO AVAIL. ANY OTHER INFORMATION YOU NEED OR ANYWAY I CAN HELP PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME. I AM CONCERNED FOR RIDERS OUT THERE WITH THIS THROTTLE AND WOULD LIKE IT ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT. THANK YOU, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

THE DROP DOWN MENU ABOVE FOR AFFECTED PARTS WAS NOT WORKING WITH MY COMPUTER. THE AFFECTED PART IS THE TRANSMISSION/SHIFTING. THE VEHICLE MENU DID NOT SHOW MY YEAR OF MOTORCYCLE, WHICH IS 2011. I SELECTED 2010 AS THE NEXT CLOSEST OPTION. SINCE I PURCHASED THE BIKE IT WILL ON OCCASION POP OUT OF 6TH GEAR ON THE HIGHWAY. THERE IS A FALSE NEUTRAL BETWEEN 5TH AND 6TH GEAR. WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER UNDER WARRANTY ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THEY INDICATED THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE REPLICATED SO THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT. THIS ISSUE IS DOCUMENTED ONLINE THAT OTHER BMW MOTORCYCLES HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM DOES NOT OCCUR FREQUENTLY, BUT IS NOT SAFE WHEN IT GOES INTO NEUTRAL AT AROUND 60 MPH. IT HAPPENED TO ME AGAIN SEPTEMBER 2014 AND IT NEARLY CAUSED ME TO CRASH WITH A CAR BEHIND ME WHEN THE BIKE WENT INTO NEUTRAL. I BROUGHT IT TO ANOTHER DEALER AND HAVE REACHED OUT TO BMW OF NORTH AMERICA. BMW NA IS REFUSING TO FIX THE ISSUE. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN AND I APPRECIATE ANY ASSISTANCE YOU CAN OFFER. *TR

Manufacturer communications
A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The electrical system of BMW vehicles has been subject to an ongoing development process over the last few years. This has led to increased demands being placed on the battery. This document covers important information for the dealer on how to handle âÂÂdischarged batteryâ complaints.
POWER TRAIN
Since October 2023, a new maintenance schedule is valid for all K5x models. For the first time, maintenance positions for the cardan shaft (Driveshaft) are included. NOTICE: 1. The new maintenance schedule is not limited to vehicles affected by the SI 33 02 22 (SERVICE ACTION: Swingarm Drain retrofit and Driveshaft Check), but is valid for all K5x models - including retroactively. In case of retroactive validity (model year 2023 and older), affected customers will be informed about the change. This will be in the form of a direct-to-customer letter with a description of the new maintenance schedule, specific ownerâÂÂs manual insert, and consumer warranty book insert. 1. For vehicles affected by SI 33 02 22 (SERVICE ACTION: Swingarm Drain retrofit and Driveshaft Check), this service action must be performed first. All conditions described in this bulletin apply after the open Service Action has been completed. No additional communication is required for K5x models model year 2024 and onwards. Those models have the new maintenance schedule in their ownerâÂÂs manual.

SERVICE BRAKES
BMW Motorrad is aware of a number of cases in which the screw connections of the Paralever link and/or the rear brake caliper have loosened in customer vehicles while driving.
POWER TRAIN
Multiple factors may cause the driveshaft to become damaged; among them are corrosion in certain parts of the driveshaft, and wear and tear exacerbated by certain climatic conditions.
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
Compare model years
Complaint and recall counts across every year of this model
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
