The defect: Caterpillar is recalling certain 2012 and 2014 Caterpillar CT660 heavy duty trucks manufactured by Navistar between October 31, 2011, and January 23, 2013. Certain side marker lamps and/or reflective tape were not applied to these vehicles, which have a length of 30 feet or longer. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
The risk: Missing side marker lamps and/or reflective tape reduces the visibility of the truck to others, which increases the risk of a vehicle crash.
The remedy: Caterpillar will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles free of charge. The recall began on April 262013. Owners may contact Caterpillar at 1-800-447-4986.

Product Link models PL121/321s will stop sending data after April 6th, 2019. Date codes will appear as if coming from the past so the customer interface (UI) will not recognize those back dated messages and no data will appear in the UI.

Engine software On Board Diagnostic (OBD) issues will be corrected, which will aid in engine malfunction identification and proper diagnosis. In addition, Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) quality sensor monitors will be corrected to proper operating function.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE

Certain truck models that were built with 2013 through 2015 model year CT13 engines. Engine software OBD issues will be corrected which will aid in engine malfunction identification and proper diagnosis. In addition, under certain conditions, the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system inducement schedule may not function properly and may result in an increase in regulated air pollutants. Recalibration of the Engine Control Module (ECM) and Aftertreatment Control Module (ACM) needs to be completed.

SUSPENSION

Lower shock absorber mounting bracket may break, this is due to that the shock absorber dimension is longer than the dimension between truck frame and suspension stop. Shock absorber effectively becomes stop and breaks the lower shock mount.

There is a problem with certain truck models that were built with 2013 through 2015 model year CT13 heavy duty on board diagnostic (HDOBD) engines. These engines will require recalibration of the engine ECM and ACM (aftertreatment control module). Certain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) issues will be corrected which will aid in engine malfunction identification and proper diagnosis.

There is a problem which relates to engine emissions on certain CT660, CT680, and CT681 On Highway Trucks that were built with 2016 model year compliant CT13 Engines. This recall will require recalibration of the engine ECM. Certain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) issues will be corrected which will aid in engine malfunction identification and proper diagnosis.
