Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

What owners report

Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded

  • Heating & air conditioning125.0%
  • Driver assistance125.0%
  • Electrical125.0%
  • Visibility125.0%

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

Safety recalls

No recalls in our database for this model year

That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

DT: THE CONSUMER STATED THAT HIS 1994 CHEVROLET CK 1500 HAD EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THE CONSUMER WAS COMING INTO A PLACE WHERE THE TRAFFIC WAS MUCH SLOWER, THE CONSUMER HIT THE BRAKES TO DISENGAGE THEM ALONG WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE EXTREMELY FAST. THE VEHICLE FINALLY DISENGAGED. THE CRUISE CONTROL SPEED WAS 65-70 MPH, AND THE VEHICLE WENT TO 85 MPH IN A SPLIT SECOND. THIS ALL OCCURRED AS THE CONSUMER CONTINUED TO TAP THE BRAKE TRYING TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. FINALLY, THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL BY THE SWITCH ON THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL MODULE. THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE THE CRUISE CONTROL ABILITY BUT THE VEHICLE WAS FINE. THE CONSUMER HAD BEEN IN CONTACT WITH A GM REPRESENTATIVE WHO INFORMED THE CONSUMER NO ONE WOULD CALL HIM BACK OR INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER WAS VERY LEARY ABOUT ADDING A NEW CRUISE CONTROL MODULE. THE CONSUMER WAS AFRAID THAT THE MODULE MAY FAIL AGAIN IN THE SAME DANGEROUS MODE. THIS WAS THE ONLY INCIDENT THAT HAD OCCURRED WITH THIS VEHICLE. *AK UPDATE 11/2/2005 - THE DOME LIGHT WOULD NOT COME ON WHEN THE DOOR WAS OPENED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE DOOR SWITCHES. *NM (11/21/05) *SC

THERE ARE ACTIVE RECALLS ON THE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON 1994+ CHEVROLETS (NHTSA 03V159000 AND NHTSA 98V150001 SPECIFICALLY), BUT WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO GET MINE SERVICED FREE, I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO HAVE THE CARD. I CALLED THE CHEVROLET NUMBER ON YOUR PAGE, AND THEY STATED THEY DON'T HAVE TO RECALL SIMPLY BECAUSE IT'S LISTED ON YOUR SITE, AND THEY ARE NOT AFFILIATED WITH YOU IN ANY WAY, AND THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE DEFECT. WHAT RESOLUTION DO I HAVE? I HAD TO PAY $100.23 TO HAVE THE CAR WIPERS FIXED (THE SAME SOLDERING ON THE SAME BOARD THAT IS DEFECTIVE) AND THE CAR RETURNED TO ME?. *AK

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
