1998 Chevrolet Camaro Engine Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the engine system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Engine reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components. Every record below is an owner-reported complaint about the 1998 Chevrolet Camaro submitted to NHTSA — not a confirmed defect, not a recall and not a manufacturer bulletin. 17 reports on file name it.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

I HAVE HAD AN EXCESSIVE NUMBER OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE LATEST PROBLEM IS THE RADIATOR HOSE BLEW OFF THE THE WATER PUMP CAUSING THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT AND SEIZE. I WAS ALREADY IN THE PROCESS OF DOCUMENTING AN OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM. THE EXTENDED FACTORY WARRANTY COMPANY (GMPP) HAS CHANGED THEIR MIND 4 TIMES ABOUT WHY IT'S NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I PAID $23,000 FOR THIS CAR AND NOW I HAVE TO REBUILD THE MOTOR TOO! IF ANYONE ELSE HAS EXPERIENCED SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH GMPP, I WOULD LIKE YOU TO CONTACT ME BY E-MAIL AT [email protected] MY SUGGESTION IS TO NEVER BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE IT WON'T DO YOU ANY GOOD IF YOU EVER HAVE A MAJOR CLAIM. *AK
