2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Suspension Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the suspension system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Suspension reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle drove over a pothole, and an abnormal sound was coming from the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the ball joint on the front upper control arm had failed. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was repaired three times. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while the brake pedal was depressed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the brakes. The contact believed that the sound was coming from the brake pump having too much air. The contact was informed that the brake oil reservoir was empty. There was no oil stains never found on the ground. The brake pads were replaced. Most recently, the message "Service Air Bag" was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic after the most recent failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that in the past the temperature sensor, the thermostat, the radiator, and the water pump were replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Stabili-trak message was displayed and the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated. The front wheels seized while making a turn. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the front driver's side speed sensor and wires were faulty. The front driver's speed sensor, wire kit, and connector kit were replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer, where it was determined that the ABS and Stabili-trak had seized and the front driver's side wheel bearing was faulty. The dealer replaced the hub assembly. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 67,611.

Dealership states our truck “both upper control arms have play” Repairs total cost $1246 We are 65 years old, we do not go off reading. THE TRUCK HAS A HARD TIME ACCELERATING AND RANDOMLY UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS. WHEN COMING TO A STOP IT HAS A HARD TIME DOWNSHIFTING WHICH MAKES IT HARD TO STOP. WHEN ON THE INTERSTATE IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE BECAUSE I HAVE NO IDEA IF THE TRUCK WILL ACCELERATE OR NOT AND SINCE IT HAS A HARD TIME STOPPING I AM AFRAID I AM GOING TO REAR END SOMEONE. ANOTHER ISSUE THE TRUCK HAS IS WITH THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. IT WORKS GOOD BUT IT MAKES A REALLY LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHEN ENGAGED. I AM TAKING IT TO THE DEALER TODAY AS I HAVE BEFORE. I AM HOPING THEY TAKE A SERIOUS LOOK AT IT AND FIX THE ISSUES.
