What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
I was making a sharp turn going about 6 miles an hour. The vehicle suddenly stalled and shifted to neutral. A message appeared on the dash stating, “Please restart vehicle.” The vehicle restarted without issue and no error codes were displayed.
I just purchased this vehicle on XXX and on XXX, with less than 300 miles on it, we were in a parking garage at the Galleria Mall in [XXX]. While driving slowly uphill in the garage looking for a parking space, the vehicle suddenly went into neutral and the engine shutoff. After verifying all was well, I restarted the truck and continued to drive. It happened two more times with the same situation, low speed going uphill. I have not taken it to a Chevy dealer yet for diagnostic as there were no lights like the check engine light and no codes presented. My onstar app reports that all is well and no issues, so I know it will not be something they can find when they try to pull the codes. I did a search on the internet for this issue and found others with the same problem, no known fix, and in one case the person was able to return the truck and they purchased a different truck from a different manufacturer. That gentleman said he did try to work with GM at the regional level with a service rep. He said something is causing the voltage to drop in lower gears, causing it to invoke a safety feature to stop the vehicle by going into neutral and shutting off the engine. On an incline, with no engine, the brakes become very hard to push and the vehicle could roll back. In a parking garage, that could mean rolling back into a person or another car. When it happens there are in internal codes that do not show up, but are wiped when you re-start. There are threads on Reddit and in Facebook groups that discuss this issue as well for further evidence. My purpose is to get this documented outside of GM, it seems like a niche problem, but one that could be dangerous in the right circumstances. Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
Tailgate keeps randomly opening when driving down the road. Vehicle was taken to a Chevrolet dealership for them to address. GM denied warranty claim and will not provide anything in writing. This is a huge safety concern for a work truck that hauls tools and equipment on a daily basis. And the fact that GM will not give anything in writing on the denial is absolute BS.
I have been having issues with my vehicle for the last 1,000 miles or so where it appears to be losing power while accelerating normally, i'm not sure if the issue lies with the engine or powertrain/transmission. I took to dealer last week and they were unable to reproduce. The issues have been getting more frequent and intially were only occuring after the vehicle warmed up, now it has started while vehicle is cold. Feels like the power drops (rpms drop) during a normal acceleration. As of 7/16 I now have a check engine light on, onstar indicates an issue with my engine, transmission, electrical. This is putting myself at safety risk along with others as during my normal drive the engine is losing power and could either leave me stranded or cause an accident.
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim

Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
While using the adaptive cruise on the highway the truck will rapidly slow down as is there is something in it path even though nothing is there. This has happened multiple times on the expressway now and I can no longer use adaptive cruise for fear of what it will try and do.
I suspect the automatic emergency braking suddenly activated while backing into my driveway. The truck abruptly stopped as if i crashed into something. The driveway was completely empty there was no reason for the vehicle to activate that system if that's even what happened. The dealer was no help i figuring out the issue they made no attempt to even try and diagnose it. I've since deactivated automatic emergency cross traffic braking and it has not happened since.

Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH, there was an abnormally loud pinging sound coming from the engine. The vehicle lost motive power, the brakes and the steering wheel became inoperable. The message "Depress Start" was displayed. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was initially diagnosed that the battery failure was unsoldered. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. While being test-driven by the mechanic, the vehicle stalled. After further investigation, it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced due to the main bearing failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, opened a case and informed the contact that a case worker, near his location, would contact him in 24 hours. The failure mileage was approximately 9,025.
The contact owns a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the message "Service Brake Assist" was illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the message was reset on several occasions. Additionally, the dealer determined that the failure was possibly due to a low voltage issue, and the vehicle was operating as designed. The contact stated that the failure had recurred. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that a towing agent would towed the vehicle to their location. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 85.

Reports whose component NHTSA recorded as unknown, or that do not map to one of the categories above.
From owner reports, verbatim
On XXX I leased this 2026 Silverado and I have discovered that this truck tramlines, basically rocks side to side on roads with longitudinal grooves in the concrete, meaning lines that go the same way you're driving, the truck will violently swag side to side. I have been pushed into oncoming traffic from this. On 7/17.26 I took my truck to Fox Chevrolet of [XXX] to get service about this issue. I took the general manager of theirs, Marc and he confirmed the issue. He said he would send the DOT number to GM and wait for their reply. He called me on 7/20 saying that GM informed him that this has been reported by others and there's nothing GM is willing to do and to just deal with it. I told him that I find that unacceptable and it needs to be looked at my someone higher up. He passed this to his service manager since he's going on vacation for the next week, Ron. Ron called me and said that he talked to the local dealer rep and that he claims there's a law that says GM can't change tires that didn't come on the truck and that this is a known issue with these tires and again to just deal with it. This is completely unacceptable and flat out dangerous! I had a 2024 Silverado before this truck and it never did it. It had different tires than this truck and that's my argument is the tires are the problem. The manufacturer, Michelin even said that the solution is to get different tires and it's known on these ones. I purchased my new 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 truck on 12/04/2025 from CMA Chevrolet in [XXX] . When the truck was delivered, there was no owner's manual with the truck. I recently found that there was a recall associated with this issue. It is XXX. I thought that maybe manuals were now online. When I read the recall, it said that it is federal law that one be issued with each new vehicle. My VIN is not part of the recall. I contacted my salesman and he said that their parts department said that sometimes the manufacturer, GM, puts out VINs in blocks. This does not make sense. How does a manufacturer know something that they did not do?? I would like my VIN added to the list of vehicles that are affected by this recall. Thank you INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Auto wash truck quit, dead would not restart, tow service disconnected battery and reset. Okay after. Visit to dealer service they said nothing wrong. Driving yesterday in the rain quit 4 times on the road driving, it would restart each time. Warning on the dash would flash at times "Hands on the wheel" while driving ? This is a serious safety issue. Intermittent when it gets wet, new truck, 1,800 miles, no alterations. Dealer service no help, it has hard codes, CAN Bus communication issue, water intrusion likely cause, we are afraid to operate on the road, help please.
2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Safety Issue Summary: I am filing a complaint regarding critical safety defects with my vehicle. The truck displayed warning messages for traction control service and brake system failure on the instrument panel while parked in my driveway, prior to the vehicle becoming inoperable, I experienced dangerous driving conditions including swerving similar to hydroplaning on two separate occasions. Details: The vehicle was picked up on a flatbed on May 11th, 2026 because it would not start or run. When I drove it before this incident, I experienced the vehicle swerving dangerously similar to hydroplaning on two different occasions 5/1/26 and 5/9/26. Upon inspection, warning messages appeared on the dashboard indicating traction control system service and brake system failure. These are critical safety systems. Chevrolet HE Dealership in Wichita Falls, Texas performed a diagnostic and claimed to find only a dead battery and parasitic draw. They refuse to address the traction control or brake system failures and claim they cannot duplicate the issues. They are pressuring me to accept the vehicle without written confirmation that these safety systems have been repaired. Safety Risk: A vehicle with non-functioning traction control and brake system failures is unsafe to operate. I cannot accept this vehicle until these critical systems are properly diagnosed and repaired.Than you for your help in this matter.

On XXX I was driving from [XXX] to my sister's house in [XXX]. I was relocating to [XXX] for a job. I was pulling a U-haul trailer (6x12) that contained significantly less weight than the truck can handle. About halfway there, on back roads, the truck suddenly slowed significantly and the gas pedal was unresponsive. The light in the dashboard read Reduced Acceleration - Drive with caution. Pulled over, turned off truck, opened driver side door, to reset the truck (read this on google). We had to do this a couple times, because it would just go back to that behavior after a bit. We made it to my sister's house to stay the night. In the morning, XXX, I called the local Chevy Service Dept in [XXX] and asked if I could bring it in, I described the problem. During the drive to the shop, the same issue occurred. Upon arriving at the service dept, the Trailer app was giving a warning that the load may be heavier than max. Which cannot be true. The dealer techs said they had never seen anything like it before, but they seemed to know what to look for. They then informed me that they could not loan me a car because I was traveling out of state. I had a deadline, so my only option was to rent a U Haul box truck, unload the back of my truck into it, hitch the trailer I already had to it, and drive to [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
