1997 Chevrolet Silverado Tires & wheels Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the tire or wheel system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Tires & wheels reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

IN EARLY MAY 2000, THE LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT GOING 65MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO KEEP CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND PULL INTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE TO REPLACE IT. THE TIRE WAS A FIRESTONE STEELTEX AT TIRE WHICH WAS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON MY CHEN CK1500 WITH APPROX 60,000 MILES. THERE IS STILL ADEQUATE TREAD ON THE TIRES. IT LOOKS LIKE A SIDEWALL BLOWOUT.
