What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Airbags
Reports naming the air-bag system — deployment behaviour, inflators, sensors and warning lights.
From owner reports, verbatim
I was involved in a car accident on 4/30/26 but my airbags did not deploy.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The message "Engine Power Reduced" was displayed. After waiting 20 minutes, the contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was diagnosed by the contact's friend, and it was determined that the clock spring had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V614000 (Electrical System), but the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 195,000.
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
Traction control light comes on and then my vehicle keeps jerking as I drive and a stabilizer track notification light comes on
I have a 2014 Chevy traverse I got December 2024. Up until 4/16/2025 I noticed a little cutting in and out of the radio and of course took it as the connection being back but yesterday after working I notice my radio isn’t giving out sound , my blinkers not giving sound and neither is my back up camera or seatbelt notifier. I’ve seen a ton of forums online where people are complaint of this same problem so I’m sure since 2014 this issue has been brought up. The question is what is Chevy going to do about it. This fix could be costly. I did get my fuses checked and nothing is bad in that area. What will Chevy recommend me to do?
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
Odometer Fraud. The contact was in the process of purchasing a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse. It was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. Before the vehicle was purchased, the mileage was 118,000. At the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 227,937.
Had the whole ECM replaced as well as all wire harnesses inspected. Fuse box inspection and retighned. All fuses and relays checked. Ignition switch replacement as well. The code for P1682 went away months but has now returned. Also have replaced battery and few other minor items. The car will go into limp mode randomly on freeway or roads. Almost caused an accident since the power steering stops working as well.
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
Had the whole ECM replaced as well as all wire harnesses inspected. Fuse box inspection and retighned. All fuses and relays checked. Ignition switch replacement as well. The code for P1682 went away months but has now returned. Also have replaced battery and few other minor items. The car will go into limp mode randomly on freeway or roads. fuel pump issue that is cause engines to stall while driving or not start after placing gas in the vehicle. It is having the battery run low and car die or stall and stop while driving. It will turn your check engine light on.
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
While driving my traction control turns off and reduces power to the vehicle often stalling it making it hard to safely move to the side of the road.. has been happening since I got the vehicle from a dealership
My car has been having a problem with traction control/service stabilitrak and losing power to the engine since I purchased it. The problem was only occasionally, now it does it EVERYTIME I drive. First it pops up with traction control off message, once that happens it starts to lose power to the engine making the car(heavy car) shudder so bad I cannot drive. The transmission lags on acceleration and it also pops up with "service stabilitrak", "Power loss to engine "And the car will not move until I can pull over and turn it off. Very scary. I have 4 kids and its losing power while Im driving on the highway. Ive replaced sensors, Cleaned the throttle body and also changed spark plugs and changed fuses. It's very dangerous and I found out this is VERY common , especially for my year.
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim

The vehicle stalls while driving at any speed. It has left me on the highway or the middle of an intersection with myself & my kids in danger. The check engine light comes on before the vehicle shuts off completely & loses power & steering. The traction control & stability warning also come on. The vehicle has rolled backwards while in park numerous times so I have to use the parking brake on a regular basis as a safety precaution. The power steering is also an issue. The driver seat belt & air bags make this car a rolling death TRAP. There are past recalls or safety concerns for the traverse that are the exact same issue that I’m having but they are not specific to my vin number so the dealership refuses to address them! Is 7 recalls & they all apply to this vehicle! I’ve attempted to have the vehicle repaired multiple times & they have failed & the same problem returns. I just want my vehicle to be safe & not put myself or my family in danger of being injured or killed.

From owner reports, verbatim
The vehicle has a brake light over the hatch but no bottom brake lights. Replaced bulbs and fuses and brake light switch and still no brake lights. Took it to a shop and they don't know what's wrong. After getting gas I crunk car, put it in drive and car started going in reverse and front air wouldn't work either but back air did. It seems to be an electrical issue. Just got vehicle in June of 2023. The brake light issue needs attention immediately very dangerous. I've been behind an Acadia and an Equinox and noticed they don't have bottom brake lights either. The spare tire is also too low and squeaky when operating vehicle and can fall of while driving. Please fix these issues it's very dangerous and very upsetting.
All the dash lights go out. Very dangerous especially at night. sometimes turning on another electrical device will restore, sometimes shutting vehicle down and restarting will help. have tried covering/ cleaning light sensor, no help. just have to wait until it decides to work. started about 6 years ago. getting progressively worse. no warning lights. had independent mechanic check it, he says problem with instrument cluster. hard to tell as it was working when he looked at it. I need your support before this causes an accident.2014 Chevrolet Traverse. 69,200 miles
Other / unspecified
Reports whose component NHTSA recorded as unknown, or that do not map to one of the categories above.
From owner reports, verbatim
For at least 5 years, we have been consistently encountering this same problem. After driving awhile, typically at higher speeds, we will get a error message saying to "service stabilitrack and traction control" and "traction control has been turned off". Often this is accompanied by significant shaking of the vehicle and steering column, random gear shifting, impeding your ability to control acceleration and sometimes causing steering issues. We have taken to our mechanic numerous times, and he is unable to diagnose the issue. A code reader returns: ABS-TCS Brake Switch Circuit malfunction. This issue is well-documented in vehicle forums online (Google: Chevrolet Traverse stabilitrack or traction control.
My service tire monitor system light is on

Reports naming suspension components — springs, struts, shocks, control arms and related hardware.
From owner reports, verbatim

Traction control said off light on. Car shut down power failure. Car shaking as it stopped in traffic almost causing an accident. Barely made off road. I have seen other multiple complaints and no way to fix this problem. It is a death sentence on the highway. With no other transportation for me.

Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
I was driving along the highway way at 60-65 mph when suddenly service traction control came on and vehicle started jerking and slowing down. As I tried to accelerate it continued to jerk and then just shut off completely. I hit the guard rail/ jersey wall on the drivers side because I had no control of the vehicle due to the vehicle shutting down. Upon taking it to the dealer after getting it home they stated it could be the junction box which is a known issue but they don’t see anything wrong with it and can’t duplicate the problem. I’ve contacted various mechanics and get that it’s an electrical issue that Chevrolet is aware of but refuses to place a recall for it. I could have gotten seriously injured if not killed by this problem and safety issue.
THERE ARE A LOT OF PAINT DINGS. SOME VERY SMALL SOME LARGER. MOSTLY IN THE FRONT HALF OF THE VEHICLE. MY DRIVING HABITS AND DESTINATIONS HAVE NOT CHANGED OVER THE YEARS AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE EVER SEEN THIS MANY DINGS IN ONE VEHICLE IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. I DID MENTION IT TO THE DEALERSHIPS SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND OF COURSE THERE ARE NO KNOWN ISSYES WITH THE PAINT FAILING. ITS BEEN APPROXIMATELY 3 MTHS. SINCE I WAS TOLD THIS AND IT STILL SITS VERY UNEASY WITH ME!!!! SOONER OR LATER THINGS DINGS WILL START RUSTING. I STILL HAVE JUST OVER 5 YRS. LEFT TO PAY FOR THIS VEHICLE!

I took it in to have the recall fixed, they told me they couldn't fix it, that I should not drive it, do not let a passenger ride in the front, they are having an issue they haven't encounterd with the other traversese he contacted somone to find out what to do and as soon as they get a letter he will let me know. I asked if it was safe to drive the look on his face was absolutely not, to just park it, and borrow or rent one, I do not have the money to do this, he said that I should be very very careful not to do anything to set off the airbag and only drive it if there is no other option, I made it clear there was not. I have had 5 close calls that could have set it off a few, inches were how close it was the last one someone almost hit me . I have a daughter I have to take to and from school the busses don't come out where we live. I just want it fixed,

FROM THE VERY FIRST TIME OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE IT WAS NOTED THAT THE REAR WINDOW HAS CLOUDY CIRCLES IN IT WHICH ARE VERY PRONOUNCED ESPECIALLY UNDER SUNNY CONDITIONS. THIS COULD LEAD TO VISIBILITY PROBLEMS ESPECIALLY DURING A REVERSE BACK UP PROCEDURE AND COULD CREATE A HAZARD IN DOING SO. THIS PROBLEM WAS NOTED ON OTHER 2014 TRAVERSE VEHICLES ON THE DEALER'S LOT. *TR
THE REAR WINDOW IS FOGGY AND COULD CAUSE DANGEROUS PROBLEMS IN A BACKING UP PROCEDURE. *TR
