2014 Chevrolet Traverse Seat belts Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the seat belt system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Seat belts reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

My airbag warning light came on and the system reported a seatbelt issue. There was a recall for my vehicle in 2014 that wasn’t repaired. Over time my vehicle has had insurmountable electrical issues as well.

In Sept 2022 my airbag light came on and dealer charged me $1,200 for a senor issue to fix, then in December 2022 it came on again they said it was a different issue related to vehicle safety and charged me for part. Then in June 2023 i received the recall notice for my airbag - I've tried multiple times to see when this can be fixed hopefully prior to shards of metal impaling me - told parts not available. In October 2023 the airbag light came on again and this time they said it was the seatbelt anchor and want to charge me $487. It appears they need to figure out a priority to fix what can harm people - if they have parts to make new cars. also it is obvious this vehicle has safety issues making money for dealer and costly both time and money (dealer doesn't offer loaners). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, he became aware that the front driver's side seat belt lap pretensioner had detached. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the remaining pieces of the lap belt pretensioner harness needed to be removed. The contact was informed that a new front driver's seat belt lap pretensioner needed to be installed under GM Campaign Number: N192219480; however, the parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and denied vehicle rental assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000

2014 chevy traverse driver side seatbelt broke at the cable while putting the seatbelt on. There is a recall for 2009-2014 chevy traverses about this issue but mine isn't a part of that recall and it still happened too me. Chevy will not fix it free of charge. This is a safety issue since my seatbelt does not work properly now. The same year traverse have the problem but my vin isn't in the recall list.

THE SEAT BELT ANCHORS ON THE 2ND ROW BENCH SEAT HAVE INJURED SEVERAL OF MY PASSENGERS, INCLUDING MYSELF AND MY CHILDREN. I'VE ONLY OWNED CAR FOR ABOUT 1 YEAR A LOVE IT, EXCEPT FOR THIS HUGE PROBLEM. THE ANCHORS ARE NON-BENDABLE AND ARE JUST TOO LONG AND RIGID. WHEN PEOPLE TRY TO SIT OR SCOOT OVER, THEY HAVE BEEN INJURED AND COMPLAINED TO ME ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I DON'T THINK ITS AN ISSUE WITH THE PERSONS SIZE, BECAUSE BOTH SLIM AND LARGE FRAMED PEOPLE HAVE BEEN INJURED BY THESE ANCHORS IN MY CAR. MY SON IS ONLY 120 LBS AND GOT A HUGE BRUISE FROM ACCIDENTALLY SITTING DOWN TOO QUICKLY. JUST RECENTLY, WE RECENTLY TOOK A ROAD TRIP AND HE BRUISED HIS TAILBONE FROM THE ANCHOR PRESSING UP AGAINST HIM WHILE HE SLEPT. MY NIECE WAS IN HER CAR SEAT IN THE MIDDLE OF 2ND ROW SO HE ONLY HAD SO MUCH ROOM. I HAVE PERSONALLY INJURED MYSELF WHEN CLEANING OUT MY CAR. AT LEAST 8-10 PEOPLE (KIDS AND ADULT FRIENDS) HAVE BEEN INJURED (TEMPORARILY) AND COMPLAINED TO ME ABOUT THESE SEAT BELT ANCHORS BEING A NUISANCE AND UNCOMFORTABLE FOR THEIR TRAVEL. THIS MAKES ME FEEL BAD BECAUSE I CHOSE THIS SPECIFIC TYPE OF VEHICLE SO I COULD TRAVEL WITH MORE PEOPLE, BUT KNOWING THAT THEY ARE UNCOMFORTABLE DEFEATS THE PURPOSE, ESPECIALLY FOR LONG TRIPS. THIS SEEMS LIKE A HUGE DESIGN FLAW THAT SOMEHOW FELL THROUGH THE CRACKS AND IS DEFINITELY AND ISSUE PER THE VARIOUS COMPLAINTS FOUND ONLINE. EITHER THE ANCHORS NEED TO BE SHORTENED OR THEY NEED TO BE DESIGNED LIKE THE MAJORITY OF OTHER CARS WHERE THE ANCHOR IS MOVABLE AND MORE FLEXIBLE. IM INCLUDING PICTURES OF THE 2ND ROW AND 3RD ROW ANCHORS SO THE DIFFERENCE CAN BE SEEN. THE 3RD ROW ONES ARE NO PROBLEM AND I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED COMPALINTS ABOUT THEM. I THINK THE 2ND ROW ANCHORS SHOULD BE DESIGNED SIMILAR TO THE 3RD ROW ONES.

I HAVE A RECARO PERFORMANCE SEAT. I PURCHASED THIS SEAT ABOUT 4-5 MO. AGO SO ITS FAIRLY NEW. THE ISSUE THAT IM HEAVING IS THE ADJUSTER LEVER( WITCH IS THE RELEASE LOCATED BETWEEN CHILD'S LEGS) HAS A NOTCH ON THE SIDE TO SUPPORT THE SPRING. THIS NOTCH ( WHICH IS BY DESIGN NOT A DEFECT) IS CATCHING THE STRAP AND ONCE THE CHILD IS SECURE IT IS DIFFICULT TO RELEASE. ITS EQUIVALENT OF A WRECHERING STRAP FOLDING OR TWISTING OVER WILE TIGHTENING. ALSO ONCE I DO MANAGE TO GET IT TO REALIZE I DID NOTICE THAT THE STRAP IS BEING FLAILED BY THIS NOTCH. IT DOESN'T HAPPENED ALL THE TIME WITCH MAKES IT WORSE, BECAUSE SOMETIMES ITS JUST THE VERY CORNER, OF THE STRAP, THAT GETS PINCHED. IT REALLY MAKES U QUESTION IN AN ACCIDENT IM I GOING TO BE ABLE TO GET MY KID OUT? I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURE THEIR REPLY WAS TO PULL THE STRAP OPPOSITE TO THE NOTCH. THIS SHOULD SOLVE MY PROBLEM. I HAVE TWO KIDS, TWO CARS AND FOUR CHILD SAFETY SEATS, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I ENCOUNTERED THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. IT IS LAUGHABLE THAT RECARO WOULD TREAT IT THIS WAY. HE ALSO FAILED TO OFFER OR REVIEW ANY OTHER OPTIONS TO RESOLVE THE RECALL. RECALL- 14187 THANK YOU! *TR

RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V266000 I PURCHASED A 2014 CHEVY TRAVERSE FROM EKINS CHEVROLET ON JUNE 7TH, 2014 AND TOOK THE VEHICLE HOME THE SAME DAY. ON JUNE 18TH, 2014 I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL INDICATING THAT RECALL PARTS WERE READY TO BE INSTALLED DESPITE THAT I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY NOTICE FROM THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE VEHICLE I PURCHASED HAD A KNOWN SAFETY DEFECT THAT HAD NOT BEEN FIXED. THE SALE OF THE VEHICLE WITH THIS SAFETY DEFECT IS IN DIRECT CONTRADICTION WITH THE STOP DELIVERY ORDER (DCS 3238) ISSUED BY GM ON MAY 18TH, 2014. *TR
