2020 Chevrolet Trax Problems

My 2020 Chevrolet Trax has experienced recurring brake problems for approximately two years. The issue involves the brake pedal becoming unusually resistant and the vehicle failing to brake normally when I apply the pedal. The vehicle and affected components are available for inspection. My first known documented occurrence was August 21, 2024, one day after I picked up the vehicle from AutoNation Chevrolet. I had dropped it off July 29, 2024, and picked it up August 20, 2024, after it was diagnosed and repaired for reduced-power issues, including shaking while driving. On August 21, 2024, I was driving normally when I attempted to brake. The brake pedal suddenly became resistant and the vehicle would not stop normally. I repeatedly pressed the brake pedal without resolving the problem. I pulled the emergency brake and waited. Approximately five minutes later, the dashboard displayed a “Service StabiliTrak” warning, along with the ABS and check-engine lights. After the warning lights appeared, the brakes began functioning normally again. This is the first occurrence I personally documented on my phone to my knowledge. Over the past two years, I have taken the vehicle to the dealership and/or Big O Tires approximately 15 times for service and repairs, including work I was told could help resolve the issue. These visits also included routine services such as tires, oil changes, and emissions testing. Despite repeated service and recommended repairs, the brake problem continues. The vehicle is currently at the dealership as of August 11, 2026, being diagnosed for the same recurring brake issue. This problem has repeatedly placed my safety, the safety of my 6-year-old child, and the safety of other drivers and pedestrians at serious risk. The intermittent loss of normal braking makes it difficult to safely stop or avoid a collision. I have repeatedly sought professional assistance, but the underlying issue has not been permanently resolved.

February 2024- Heat and AC control not turning like they were super glued March 2024- dash screen out again complete black out April 2026- strut replacement @60,000 miles April 2026- water pump coolant leak April 2026- 3 serpentine belts in 3 days. I think that's all the consumer needs to be aware of, make a logical choice but the extra warranty it will save you I promise. All items have been covered by warranty, extended warranty or special warranty coverage. Make sure you research. And definitely make sure your dealership upholds their word and warranty. I carry my book with me Everytime I head to the shop. All work has been done under 63000 miles.

I was driving my car and was at a stop sign and the vehicle started acting odd and it felt like it was lunging me forward. I was concerned that it was going to do it without my control and after that it almost sluggish and stalling until I could get it out of the intersection. Took it to a repair shop and the whole turbo unit needs to be replaced with 38,000 miles on it.

The manual parking brake system (hand lever) failed to adequately restrain the vehicle when fully engaged. The component is available for inspection upon request. My safety was put at risk because the vehicle failed to remain securely parked with the parking brake fully engaged. If parked on an incline, this defect creates a risk of the vehicle rolling and causing an accident. Additionally, a fully functional parking brake is a critical emergency braking backup system, which is compromised by this malfunction. I have not gotten to a dealer to get it checked yet. There was a warning light eventually. After a couple of times, I pushed on the accelerator once I realized the parking brake was on. I turned it off. It was only when I noticed it was a bit jankey when attempting to reverse is when i noticed it

Repeatedly disply reduce engine warning, , stabiliTrak / traction warnings, loss of power while driving, and dashing board goes dark.

The dealer replaced the lower control arm, and the vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that the A/C system was inoperable, and the infotainment system screen was significantly hot and turned off intermittently while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the A/C system motor was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The contact was advised that the A/C system motor was not the cause of the failure, and the contact was referred to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

They sold me the car in the dark. The brand new tires skidded on wet pavement, and suction cups for placing a windshield appear in the ice on the inside of the front windshield. The car is dangerous. Driving on a main road on news year eve on my way home from work in a snow storm, my vehicle decides to only drive 9mph or less indicating that it has gone into limp mode. Unable to go up hills of any incline caused panic from the drivers around me. Luckily I was able to pull into a parking lot and sit and call for help. My vehicle was showing a code for the accelerator pedal position sensor indicating an issue with the voltage difference between the APP and the Throttle position sensor. The computer was able to be reset and my car then drove fine but the next day, it did it again. And without the scanner being plugged in the entire time, My car was not drivable.

My 2020 Chevy Trax did not deploy the air bags, at all, when hit cement wall head on. The impact to my chest area caused a wire from a chest surgery to snap, and is now dangling inside the middle of my chest, near my heart. I have the pictures & the witness was a Sheriff. It make no sense that none of the air bags deployed. NONE. I want to report it as will be pursuing, and to make sure others know that this is an issue that can cause bodily harm and there are no recalls on these cars. That's scary. No idea now what I must go thru due to this injury which never should've happened.

Rear back up camera image is foggy. Have tried to clean multiple times, but it continues to be foggy.

On Oct 08, 2024 Milan Tire and Brake replace wiper motor part. Since then the wiper motor part only works for about 2 months . They replace it going on 3 times . Just went out yesterday again. On January 29, 2025 Milan tire and brake and Brake replace wiper transmission .

I'm contacting nhtsa to make a recall request on chevys 2020 trax . less than 3 years old and has 23,300 miles , the chevy trax needed both control arms, both side tie rod ends , 2 alignments. I'm going to say to nhtsa I think chevy didn't manufacture the 2020 trax with strong enough front suspension and steering parts. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The both front bottom control arms . I asked the ourisman dealership to give them to me after the repair was paid they didn't give . and the ourisman dealership said it was only one bad inner tie rod end but both where bad . I had the tie rod ends replaced at independent service center and they kept and gave me the old bad tie rod ends. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? If these parts broke off during driving would be a deadly crash of multiple vehicles especially on a interstate. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes by to ourisman dealerships and one independent service center. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? by the chevy dealerships but they didn't give me the parts after the repair but I did ask for the parts. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, didn't

The touch screen on the front dashboard and the interior lights get so hot sometimes that you cannot touch them. Definitely an electrical issue causing both of those issues. Part of the air vent next to the touch screen has actually melted from the heat! Also, you cannot drive with the air conditioner on. The car gets no power at all. Just to go 30 mph, you have to go all the way up to almost 5 RPMs. The only way to cancel this out is to pull over, turn the car off and than back on (with no AC on). All summer long it has been doing this… possibly a transmission issue. I’ve personally only owned the vehicle for 2 yrs and the year of the car is a 2020, so there’s no reason it should be doing this. There is no exact date. It happens all the time, so I’ll just put the beginning of the spring
