Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

My 2015 Dart has suffered a major loss of shift function, the key is being trapped in the ignition, the gears are not shifting properly or sometimes the gear locks up and doesn’t shift at all. The dealer refused repair due to parts not being available. I have been in contact with the dealership on numerous occasions by phone and told I have to wait until the parts become available in the past and recently with the manufacturer (NHTSA) and nothing has been done about the issue. The car is unsafe for me to drive the car has slipped into neutral while I was driving. The car is available for inspection upon request. The problem was confirmed prior to this incident on a previous recall but the issue is happening again after being repaired for the initial problem and it has been a hassle with customer service on how to get a resolution before tragedy happens driving the vehicle with these problems. There were not other symptoms of the problem prior to failure.

On July 24th 2026, while operating my 2015 Dodge Dart, I was backing up in reverse and attempted to shift the vehicle into Park. During this normal shifting process, the transmission shift cable failed/broke, causing the vehicle to become stuck in Reverse and preventing me from safely shifting the vehicle into Park or another gear. The failed component is the transmission shift cable, which is the same component involved in the current safety recall for this vehicle. The failed part is available for inspection upon request and is currently with the dealership. This failure created a serious safety risk because the vehicle could not be placed into Park and remained stuck in Reverse. A vehicle that cannot properly shift gears creates a risk of unintended vehicle movement, inability to secure the vehicle when parked, and potential danger to the driver, passengers, and others nearby. The problem was confirmed by the Dodge dealership after inspection. The dealer verified that the shift cable had failed and that the issue involved the recalled component. The vehicle is currently at the dealership awaiting repair. There were no warning lights, dashboard messages, or other noticeable symptoms before the failure. The shift cable broke suddenly while I was attempting to shift from Reverse into Park during normal vehicle operation. The failure happened without warning and left me without a usable vehicle.

The recall is transmission cable. So my car is a ticking time bomb to fail to go into park, or fail while the car is parked. I need to use e-brake when parking, park on flat surfaces, wheels facing curb. Why do I have to live like that? Guess what i have a 30 degree angle of a driveway, (ill give you my address, photos to verify if you'd like) so I get to worry about it slipping out of park every night, or anywhere I go for that matter. You might think hey just park on the street. Ok I work hard to pay for a nice house and I should park on the street because there's no recall remedy? I should not have to operate my vehicle like this, it is unnecessary stress I carry around. Ive had this car since 2021 i absolutely love it, but this isnt right. If there is no transmission remedy I should get a complete new transmission. Or a dealership loaner until the remedy is available. Or one hell of a good deal on another Dart, i also like the Charger. Or something. Is anything I've said in this complaint unreasonable?

Shifter cable bushing failure - 1st recall in 2019, took to Dodge, was replaced in April of 2020. October 2025, safety recall replacement for the 1st recall fix as the shifter cable bushing failure, and as of May 12th 2026, there is NO remedy. My bushing broke April 2026 and I can't get it repaired. With no cable bushing, I cannot use my transmission gear shift in the car, every time I need to shift to either P, D, N and R, I have to manually get out of the car, open the hood, reach inside the hot engine to manually shift the gears.I contacted Stellantis Customer Service that handles recalls. The ONLY option they had for me for this October 2025 recall was to get my car fixed at a mechanic or Dodge dealership and send them the paid invoice so they could reimburse me for the money I spent. I told them that was unacceptable to me because 1.) how can you announce a national public recall in October 2025 and it's May of 2026 and STILL do and not have literally the small part (bushing size) that you've recalled? 2.) Dodge telling me to get the part fixed for $500 or more at a mechanic when the part that doesn't exist ANYWHERE that fits my Dart? Make it make sense! Meanwhile, everyday, I risk burning myself every time I have to reach into my hot engine to manually shift gears. This is dangerous and risks litigation if I burn myself anymore. Why is Stellantis allowed to get away with this? I refuse to pay and get reimbursed when it's a recall. Worse yet, how do I get it fixed if the part apparently isn't available? Again, make it make sense... Dodge is responsible to fix recalls on their dime, not mine.

Due to this safety-related defect, the vehicle moves even when the car is placed in park and on other occasions this defect has prevented the car from starting. I feel completely unsafe, but do not have another option for transportation. I am a senior on a fixed income so I can not purchase a new vehicle. I have taken excellent care of my Dodge Dart because I know I can't buy another car; but I need the manufacturer to care enough to fix this for me and many others. These incidents have occurred several times but the most recent is indicated below.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
