Recall 19V-293 Post Remedy Failures
On June 30, 2025, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ25002 to investigate and review the effectiveness of Recall 19V-293. This recall was intended to address deterioration and detachment of shifter cable bushings by replacing them with an improved bushing that is less susceptible to deterioration from chemicals, oils, and solvents in MY2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automotive US LLC (FCA US). If the shifter cable becomes detached from the transmission, the transmission gear position may not match the driver’s intended gear selection. This mismatch could result in unintended vehicle movement or rollaway when the driver believes the transmission is in PARK, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury. ODI has received sixty-three (63) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) alleging worn or misadjusted shifter cables and/or shifter cable detachments in subject vehicles that had already received the remedy for Recall 19V-293. Complainants reported incidents of bushing deterioration and detachment, resulting in gear-selection mismatch despite the prior recall repair, raising concerns regarding the effectiveness and durability of the implemented remedy and the adequacy of the recall. ODI’s investigation sought to determine whether the remedy used in recall 19V-293 adequately addressed the cause of the failure and whether other vehicles using the same bushing design might be affected. In response, FCA US and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (Dura) determined that the repair for Recall 19V-293 did not sufficiently address the issue, and therefore, a safety defect exists in the subject vehicle population. As a result, FCA US and Dura initiated the following recall actions: · Recall 25V-674 (FCA US) is intended to address MY 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles repaired under 19V-293 or otherwise equipped with suspect service parts. Remedy is under development. · Recall 25E-065 (Dura) is intended to address the defect at the equipment level by recalling affected gearshift control cable assemblies distributed as service components. Remedy is under development. The recalls initiated by FCA US (25V-674), and Dura Automotive Systems Inc. (25E-065) were received prior to ODI sending an Information Request (IR) letter to FCA. These two recalls seem to resolve the concerns that prompted investigation RQ25002 by replacing the previously recalled and service-supplied shifter cable assembly with an improved design, currently under development. The vehicle scope concern identified in this query was addressed by the new recalls including all Model Year 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles produced and equipped with the affected shifter cable assembly. Accordingly, ODI is closing Investigation RQ25002. The agency will continue to monitor field performance and recall completion data to evaluate the effectiveness of the new remedy. ODI reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. On Aug 30, 2026, my 2015 Dodge Dart suddenly became stuck when the gear wouldn’t shift out of park. The shift lever would move, but it felt loose. This obviously rendered the vehicle undrivable. As this happened on a Sunday night, I had no choice but to call AAA to get the car towed home that night, and again later that week (Sep 2) to get it towed to the dealership when they scheduled an appointment for me to bring in the vehicle. This failure is directly related to open NHTSA recall 25V674 (Chrysler recall A0C), covering the transmission shifter cable/bushing on 2013–2016 Dodge Dart vehicles. This is the same component addressed by an earlier recall (19V293/Chrysler V34), which was performed on this vehicle in Jun 2021. According to Chrysler's own Part 573 filing, the 2021 fix failed in the field, prompting the new recall. As of this complaint, no permanent remedy exists for this recall. On Jun 17, 2026, the dealership where I took my car to for the 19V293 recall fix texted me, urging me to bring the vehicle in for this recall. Thinking they already had a fix, I brought my car in. It wasn’t until the day after I dropped off my car that I was told there still was no fix available and the visit was unnecessary. When I towed my car to this dealership on Sep 2, I was again told no permanent fix exists, and that I would have to pay for repair out of pocket and seek reimbursement from the manufacturer. The dealer estimated roughly 2 days for repair (original paperwork had a promise date of Sep 4). The vehicle was not ready until Sep 10. Repair cost: $782.49. When I retrieved the vehicle, the interior had been left in disarray (contents of the center console scattered in the back seat), and an access panel near the shift cable on the front passenger side had not been reinstalled. I am filing this complaint to document a real-world failure event tied to this open recall, and the fact that I was charged for a repair related to an unresolved safety recall.

Love you drive for a few minutes and then it completely stops and it will not go. It starts shaking and will not go. It has been to the dealership and they said these cars are known for electrical issues. Had something electrical.

I was driving my vehicle, 2015 Dodge Dart to get a regular oil change service back on XXX. The oil change service hub was only 10 minutes or so from my home. Upon arriving to the oil change location([XXX]), I was about to turn into the intersection when my vehicle had started to shake abruptly & my steering wheel started to wiggle left & right. It was very difficult to control my vehicle while turning with on going traffic coming my way. I was able to turn & safely park my vehicle. After the oil change my vehicle was able to be safely driven back to my apartment home. My vehicle has been parked in the same spot since this day & this day was the first time I had experienced this issue. The issue does flare up sometimes when I move my vehicle parking spots to avoid tow. I have contacted the Dodge dealership by my home via phone call & also via email in which I am regularly advised to check back again with in the following month as the parts or remedy is unavailable. Thankfully I have been able to manage my transportation priorities for work and other events for the past year this has been going on for. Recently it has added a descent amount of stress on everyday living & also putting a strain on expenses due to uber & rental reservations for transportation. Any kind of assistance would be greatly appreciated. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
