2015 Dodge Durango Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2015 Dodge Durango, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

I was told by a local mechanic that one of the things listed in the recalls was potentially a issue for me but I would need to take my vehicle to the dealership to have it rectified. I do not want to have to pay for something if it is truly on a recall! Engine light came on, no warning. Took to garage to check diagnostic system, went through system, did some work and light went off. Week later, light back on..took back to garage - they documented all they saw within diagnostic system and sent me to dealer. There was no indication of failure, drove fine but dealer made appt. Did some research and found out this year/make/model had complete engine failure at low mileage. No recall ever made. 3.6L Pentastar V6. Dealer took apart manifold, ran compression test, intake/exhaust valves leaking, engine block flatness - had to replace engine block. No precipitation of this issue other than engine light. A complete engine failure without an accident, at low mileage and a known issue without a recall on a specific engine is quite concerning. I basically paid $14, 400 for a new engine where I could have bought a used Durango . My 2000 Durango had well over 100k miles when I donated to charity and purchased this 2015 in 2016 off lot as used with 22 miles on it. I am not sure how to reconcile this damage and out-of-pocket expense for a known issue when no recall was made. Did I buy a lemon? Given the same engine was put back in, will I have to replace again in another 50k miles? I feel like I am due some type of refund given this problem is a known problem but no recall was issued. Thankfully it did not overheat, blow the engine while driving or cause an accident given this issue was a ticking time bomb.

The rear led license plates light obtain moisture corroding the electrical as do the racetrack rear light and go out. I have replaced the 2 rear license plat light assemblies and have gone again again causing myself to receive a traffic citation and attorney fee's due to this defect that thousands of other people are filing complaints about. All of the rear body lighting needs to be recalled and reimbursed for these expenses. The license plate led light(2) are not cheap from the dealer. I have also now received a traffic citation for the brake lighting not properly working on the race track lighting so I will be filing this as a legal matter with the courts to be reimbursed A police report was done as I was ticketed for both on 2 different occasions.

I have a 2015 but on all Durangos with the reat racetrack brake lighting, 2014 and newer dodge durango's, this product is fully defective on all. The brake lights and running lights go out and stop working on this style lighting and also obtain moisture. First you start losing some of the lighting on the track lighting as in brake light's until it fully goes out. This product needs to be recalled and replaced

The Blinker arm at the steering wheel has broken internally to where its useless taking my high beams, turn signals, wipers and everything else they put on it to not function properly. When I asked the dealership for a repair quote I was told the part is on back order due to high demand. When I looked at third party dealers the same issues no one has this part. I could see if this was a older car but if their blinker arm is breaking so much they can't keep a part in stock or tell you when it van be available should a safety concern. Also their design makes the blinker arm replacement 850 for part and 600 for labor. This shows poor design and poor craftsmanship in their parts

The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Durango equipped with an engine oil dipstick, Part Number: 53034186AC. The contact stated that from the time the vehicle was purchased, there was significant smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe while starting the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. There was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that he noticed that the oil level would be significantly low after driving 1,000 or 1,500 miles. The contact stated that as the dipstick fractured, he took the vehicle to the dealer for part replacement. However, the dealer provided him with a different dipstick, Part Number: 53034186AD and informed him that the replacement part was the correct part for the vehicle. The contact was informed that the original dipstick was the wrong part and had caused him to add an excessive amount of oil in the vehicle, which led to smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. The contact stated that he had not experienced a failure since replacing the dipstick. The contact related the failure to Chrysler Technical Service Bulletin Number: 09-010-15. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as the VIN was not included in any recalls. The failure mileage was approximately 5.

Goodyear Fortera HL, M&S 265 / 50R 20, tread separated from driver side rear tire, [XXX] at 11:15am, while driving speed limit on [XXX] . The tire was not flat (see photos), but the tread was completely gone and I was riding on steel belts. Extensive damage was done to the left rear quarter of the vehicle, and underneath the wheel well. Estimate over $3,500.00. I also had to replace two rear tires, over $500.00. This incident happened while I was out of state and on vacation. When I returned to my home in Florida, I called Goodyear Property Damage group, but they said that they could do nothing to help me without getting the damaged tire back to the company. Unfortunately, Mavis Tire in Matthews, NC disposed of the tire. I offered to send Goodyear photos of the damaged tire and vehicle, but they refused because they said that they needed the tire. No warning lamps, messages or symptoms occurred prior to the incident. AAA, Mavis tire, Classic Collision Ocala and insurance representatives have inspected the vehicle damage. ~OCTOBER 2017, I WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY WITH MY DAUGHTER IN THE REAR SEAT; I WAS GETTING READY TO EXIT MY DRIVEWAY WHEN I REALIZED MY KEY FOB WAS INSIDE THE HOUSE. I LEFT THE CAR TO GO GET MY KEY FOB AND LEFT THE DOOR OPEN; BY THE TIME I GOT TO MY BACK DOOR, MY DAUGHTER WAS SCREAMING (SHE WAS IN HER CAR SEAT) AND THE CAR WAS MOVING BACKWARD DOWN THE DRIVEWAY, SCRAPING AGAINST THE HOUSE, INTO THE STREET AND ACROSS THE ROAD TO THE NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE UP THEIR DRIVEWAY. I RAN AFTER THE VEHICLE AND RIGHT BEFORE IT STRUCK MY NEIGHBOR'S GARAGE, WAS ABLE TO THROW MY FOOT INTO THE BRAKE FROM THE SIDE WHILE I FELL ON THE GROUND. I WAS BRUISED AND MY CAR WAS DAMAGED, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY MY DAUGHTER WAS FINE BUT SCARED. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM TAKE A LOOK AT THE DOOR/MIRROR AND COMPLAINED ABOUT THE ISSUE (THIS IS REFERENCED IN THE "ACTION PLAN" FOR THE VISIT), AND THE GENTLEMAN AT THE MIKE SMITH BEAUMONT DEALERSHIP STATED THAT MY VEHICLE MUST HAVE HAD A QUIRK, BECAUSE THERE WAS ALREADY AN UPDATE AVAILABLE ON THAT WHICH THEY WOULD TEST. WHEN I CAME BACK TO GET MY VEHICLE, I ASKED ABOUT THE UPDATE, AND HE STATED THAT HE WAS MISTAKEN; THAT ONLY PICKUP TRUCKS WERE GETTING THAT UPDATE. I ASKED WHY, BECAUSE THERE'S NO LESS SAFETY RISK IN A DURANGO (IN FACT, PROBABLY MORE CHILDREN). HE DID NOT HAVE AN ANSWER BUT SAID HE WOULD GET BACK TO ME. NO ONE DID, AND I COMPLAINED TO DODGE ONLINE. EVENTUALLY IN AUGUST 2018 I GOT AN ODDLY PHRASED NOTICE THAT DID NOT USE THE WORD RECALL BUT STATED THAT "REPAIRS" NEEDED TO BE MADE. I WROTE TO DODGE AGAIN AND ASKED IF THEY WOULD ASSIST WITH THE ORIGINAL PROBLEMS TO MY DOOR/WINDOW BUT THEY WOULD NOT. I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT DODGE DID NOT INCLUDE DURANGOS IN THIS OBVIOUSLY EXISTING TECHNOLOGY AND DISAPPOINTED THAT IT TOOK A YEAR TO TAKE ANY ACTION (WHICH DOES NOT HELP MY REPAIRS). I AM VERY GRATEFUL WE WERE NOT MORE BADLY INJURED.
