2016 Dodge Grand Caravan Problems

It was dark, wife and I were driving, suddenly the begin dash began to go blank, more like a flicker. As I kept driving the flickering began to be more often and more pronounce. At some point we were worried that we won’t be able make it home. Almost approaching home the all the gauges went off a light came on the dash (don’t remember which one) vehicle suddenly acelerated and I have to take evasive action to avoid an accident . This lasted a second

The driver's window was left unrolled last night and it rained. When I got in the car, the electrical window control for the driver's window wouldn't roll up. But the others appeared to work normally. This was annoying, but it didn't stop my from driving to work. About half an hour into my drive, the window controls started smoking. I pulled to the shoulder and waited by the side of the highway until the smoke stopped. After the smoke stopped, the car drove fine - but none of the window controls appear to work. I Googled, and there seems to have been a recall for a similar issue for earlier Dodge Caravan models. But nothing for the 2016 Dodge Caravan. I'm hoping that maybe Dodge can fix my window control panel too.

The driverside manually operated sliding door will not open. If person's riding in the rear or middle seats they would only have on egress door in an emergency situation. This vehicle has not been involved in any type of wreck and there were/are no warning lights. This happened about 1 week ago and I found out it is not covered under my extended warranty

The front door panel that sits between the front window and back sliding door flew off the vehicle while driving down the road. This happened on both the driver and passenger side at different times/days. The drivers side was fixed by the dealer (eide) under warranty prior to the passenger side flying off. The passenger side panel is still missing/not fixed. You can possibly inspect it, depending on what it entails and what I would need to do. The safety of myself and other drivers was put at risk in the case of if the piece flying off hit their vehicle or they had to try and avoid it and an accident happened. The dealer was able to diagnose the problem. It has not to my knowledge been inspected by the manufacturer or police. There were no warnings about this prior to it happening or now.

The transmission on this vehicle has started to make a whining noise from the transmission which is consistent with the symptoms of a failing transmission pump cover under recall S44. If this were to fail while driving it can lead to a serious or fatal accident. I have not yet taken the vehicle in to be serviced as I am trying to work with the manufacturer first. There were no indicators prior to the noise coming from the transmission. This van was manufactured in July, only 3 months outside the recall window. I have contacted Dodge to report the issue and have gotten nowhere.

The contact owns a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine compartment, with the check engine warning light remaining illuminated. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not yet contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

1) At D/S Stow and Go seat malfunctioned and was repaired by CarMax Service Center Jan 2023 - 2) Around 97,000 so - Engine started ticking on or about JUL/SEP 2023, enstate Lloyds Automotive in Spokane Valley replaced out engine due to manufacture defect in Oct 2023. 3) At 103,672mi - P/S stow and Go seat was repaired for same issues as D/S stow & Go Seat by Lloyds Automotive Oct 2023 when engine was replaced out. 4) Around 116,000mi the Transmission was flushed when I got the oil changed because I noticed jerking shifting at times, this was Aug 2024 there was no check engine or diag faults. 5) Around 132,720 Fell under CXLHX982 / CXLHX981 Actuator Sliding Door D/S & P both repaired and Transmissioned serviced again because my van started stalling out at stops and the jerking happened again no check engine or diag faults 6) Around 138,000 - D/S Sliding door hatch pin repair by Coos Bay Area Dodge. On 24Mar2026 - Around 142,000mi my transmission overheat warning came on and my van would not go any faster than 45 to 50mi, the RPMs went from 1.5 to 4 to 5 then 7 and back down, I immediately pulled over and sat for about 40min turned my van back on there was no overheat warning so I drove around 50mi per hour in the emergency lane to the next exit which was Hood River, Or and trailer towed my van from Hood River, Or to AAMCO, North Spokane Wa for transmission service. - I believe my vehicle 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan R/T model - transmission was built with some underlying transmission serious safety defects and should have been recalled and a part of Part 573 Safety Recall Report 16V-461. My vehicle malfunctioning could have caused an accident if not for my quick thinking that day and keeping my vehicle maintained at a high standard. I do keep all my service records.

The contact’s father owns a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the rear sliding doors unexpectedly opened while the vehicle was parked and idling, or while driving at various speeds. The driver pulled over to the side of the road and manually closed the door. The contact researched online and became aware of an extended warranty for the failure; however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer, and the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall or an extended warranty. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.

My 2016 dodge grand caravan has all of a sudden lost power on half the fuse box making it so the key (fob) says iuyts A bad key a total of 3 times so far as well as this time will not turn over at all, also the last time I went to put fuel in it half the gas was on the ground due to a faulty gas line on the fuel neck. It also has a fluctuateing rpm at stop lights. And might turn off and be hard to restart in the middle of an intersection.I would hope to have these things fixed in a recall soon.

Today, I was driving my van to work, and I stopped at a stop sign, went to go, and the van made a horrible clunk noise and wouldn't drive. I shifted through the gears, and each one made the van shake hard. I purchased this van 2 weeks ago from a used car lot. Earlier today, the check engine light came on, which I planned on going check it when I got off work. I had a mobile diagnostic worker come check it out, and he told me it was my transmission. I contacted the lot where I bought it, and am waiting to get it towed back there. This was dangerous because it stopped driving at a stop sign, and I didn't know what to do. I had to flag traffic to go around and wait for people to come help me push it out of the way of traffic. I am a single mother with a three year old.

The contact owns a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the passenger's side seat belt sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.

The break calipers keep sticking and need to be replaced at least once per year. The stick and cause an awful black smoke. The last time they were replaced was almost a year ago to date.

While pulling into a parking lot, the engine suddenly died with no indicator lights or warning of any kind. Steering locked up and brakes were not functional. Coasted to a stop in a stall and put the vehicle in park. Restarted it without incident but I'm afraid it will happen in much more dangerous conditions

The steering and wheel alignment of the vehicle is habitually misaligned and pulling drastically to the right. The vehicle has been serviced and aligned multiple times, and the auto mechanic shop says that the alignment can no longer be set properly. They charged me extra for some additional part to help correct this and allow the vehicle to be aligned, however that did not help. Although the steering wheel appears in alignment, the front wheels continue to pull sharply to the right, causing a safety issue because the vehicle is constantly trying to move to the right.

The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was referred to the NTHSA Hotline to report the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

The contact owns a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving at 30 MPH, the front driver-side seat headrest deployed. The contact heard an abnormal sound before the headset deployed. No warning lights illuminated. The contact drove to the residence. The contact inspected the headrest and noticed it had been pushed forward. The contact was able to push the headrest. The contact suffered minor injuries to the back of the head near the neck. The contact stated that the neck will feel stiff once in a while. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Upon further investigation, the contact found that other consumers had complained about a metal pin or plastic pin that detached from the head restraint. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 95,108.

Was driving home from work (on city streets) and noticed that the engine seemed to be idling higher than normal RPMs. Van would not shift from first gear and would not accelerate beyond about 30 MPH, very sluggish, while RPMs rose above 3K and engine made a grinding/whining sound. No warning lights of any kind came on while driving or while stopped. While stopped at a traffic light, heard several loud clunks from under the hood and van had difficulty accelerating from stop. Was able to get it to the shop where they diagnosed transmission failure - the mechanics couldn't get it out of first gear by the time they were done looking at it and had to push it off the lift. Total cost of a remanufactured transmission plus new hubs and axles because they couldn't get the old ones removed without damaging them to remove/replace the transmission was $5600. Van has 128,000 miles.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where an open circuit and two other unknown DTC codes were retrieved. The contact was unaware of what needed to be repaired or replaced. SHORTLY AFTER GETTING MY VAN I FELT THAT IT DID NOT HANDLE PROPERLY. I EXPERIECED HYDRO PLANNING WHEN BRAND NEW TO ME. TRACKING UPON ACCELERATION WAS PORE. VERY POOR TRACKING AT ACCELERATION GOING INTO A TURN AT START UP SPEED. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY SAID THERE HAD BEEN NO COMPLAINTS TO DATE. BY SUGGESTION, I PAID $100 FOR AN ALIGNMENT. THE ALIGNMENT DID NOT HELP WITH THIS MATTER. ANY TYPE OF PRECIPITATION AFFECTS THE TRACKING OF THE VEHICLE. ANY PAINTED LINES ON THE ROAD AFFECT TRACTION. IT SEEMS THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL IS THE PROBLEM, OR MAYBE THE YOKOHAMA AVID TIRES ARE THE PROBLEM. WHEN I ACCELERATE IN ANY GIVEN SITUATION MY TIRES WILL SPIN OR TRACTION CONTROL SLIPS BACK AND FORTH AS I CROSS OVER ANY REFLECTIVE SURFACES (LINES ON ROAD, OR STOP STRIPS, OR CROSSWALKS). I HAVE HAD TO LEARN TO STOP ON ROAD SURFACE, PRIOR TO CROSSING ANY DIFFERENTIATED SURFACES. RIGHT TURN ON RED IS MOSTLY FORBIDDEN, AS I MAY SPIN MY WAY OUT IN FRONT OF FASTER MOVING TRAFFIC. THIS VAN NOW HAS 24,000 MILES ON IT, AND THE TIRES NEED REPLACED FROM THE SPIN IN ACCELERATION.. AT 2 1/2 YEARS OLD, I AM CONCERNED ENOUGH TO TRADE FOR A DIFFERENT MAKE. I HAVE OWNED A 1992 DODGE CARAVAN, A 2007 TOWN & COUNTRY, AND NOW THIS 2016 DODGE CARAVAN. MY FRIEND WHO WORKS FOR THE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA, HAS TO USE A NEW DODGE CARAVAN, ON OCCASION, OUT OF THEIR FLEET , HE TOO AGREED THAT TRACKING WAS AN ISSUE WTH THE VAN GOING STRAIGHT DOWN THE ROAD. I FIND IT VERY HARD TO BELIEVE THAT I AM ONE OF TWO PEOPLE TO COMPLAIN ON THIS VEHICLES HANDLING. TODAY 02/10/2019 WE RECEIVED ONE INCH OF SNOW. I WAS HEADING OUT FOR ERRANDS. MY TRACKING WAS HORRIBLE. I HAD TO ANTICIPATE ACTIONS OF OTHERS AN MYSELF WELL IN ADVANCE. I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT ON A OTHER THAN LEVEL DOWN HILL SLOPE (VERY MILD), ANITICPATED VEHICLES AHEAD MOVING, I LEFT OF MY BRAKE TO ROLL. TURNING AT 5MPH, I LOST CONTROL

I was rear-ended and the windshield on the drivers side come loose from the adhesive that holds it in. the windshield is not damaged but water comes into my vehicle now that the adhesive has failed.

MY HOOD FLEW OPEN WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, AND I CHECKED THE NHTSA SITE AND SEE THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE HOOD LATCHES, BUT APPARENTLY NOT FOR

Headlamps started leaking water into them a year ago, problem is getting much worse. Unsafe to drive in rain as headlamps dim badly with water inside.

I HAD SOMEONE RUN A REDLIGHT & HIT MY RIGHT SIDE QUARTER PANEL BEHIND THE TIRE JUST BEFORE THE DOOR. MY RIGHT HEADLIGHT LENSE WAS CRACKED IN THE PROCESS. THE BODY SHOP TOLD ME IT'S DEFECTIVE PRIOR TO YOUR ACCIDENT BECAUSE IT'S NOT EVEN SEALED. I WAS TOLD TO CHECK IF THERE'S A RECALL. WETHER IT IS OR NOT IT'S STILL THE FAULT OF CHRYSLER'S & I HAVE MOISTURE INSIDE IT NOW. IS THIS SOMETHING YOU WILL FIX FOR ME? CAN'T REMEMBER ACTUALL MILEAGE BUT FIFTY NINE THOUSAND SOMETHING. ALSO CAN'T REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT DATE. NOVEMBER 2018

The independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with a possible failed transmission pump. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.

The contact owns a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the vehicle started jerking and making an abnormal noise while accelerating. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over and attempted to reverse however, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission needed fluid and the transmission pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.

Tires 225/65R17 Cooper driving on interstate and stared bumping at 55mph.van towed and tires replaced.. no warning lights.. Whitten Brothers in Ashland VA inspected tires and indicated on a video that passenger side tires had come apart.. I had all four tires replaced because I was afraid the other two would come apart.. I think the safety of myself and my sister in the car with me. Also other people on the highway if the tires had blown.. Thanks for your help and thoughtfulness.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 DODGE CARAVAN EQUIPPED WITH YOKOHAMA AVID S33 TIRES, SIZE: 225/65R17. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE TIRE THREADS BEGAN TO SEPARATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT TIRE SHOP WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TIRES WERE MADE TO LAST BETWEEN 2,500-30,000 MILES. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE TIRE AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 28,100.
