1995 Ford Escort Powertrain (other) Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the powertrain system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Powertrain (other) reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials. Every record below is an owner-reported complaint about the 1995 Ford Escort submitted to NHTSA — not a confirmed defect, not a recall and not a manufacturer bulletin. 9 reports on file name it.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

ENGINE DEVELOPED A CRACKED CYLINDER HEAD. THE ONLY REASON IT COST 600.00 WAS THAT I REPAIRED IT MYSELF. SEATBELTS AND TRANSMISSION HAVE NOT BEEN REPAIRED.

THE SPEEDOMETER IN MY 1995 FORD ESCORT LX IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. WHEN I GET TO 60-65 MPH, THE NEEDLE BEGINS TO JUMP ALL OVER THE PLACE AND A HIGH PITCHED NOISE COMES OUT OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I HAVE EXAMINED YOUR COMPLAINT SITE AND NOTICED A NUMBER OF OTHER COMPLAINTS RELATED TO THESE SPEEDOMETERS. COULD YOU POSSIBLY LOOK BACK AT COMPLAINTS FROM 1993-1996 OWNERS OF FORD VEHICLES AND DETERMINE IF A RECALL IS WARRANTED? I WOULD VERY MUCH APPRECIATE THIS CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT MY VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW, I DON'T ABUSE IT, AND IT ONLY HAS 51000 MILES ON IT BUT FORD WANTS TO CHARGE ME $700 FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF MY SPEEDOMETER...WHICH I BELIEVE THIS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM NOT A PART PROBLEM. THANKS, DENNIS STILL. *AK

THERE WERE INTERMITTANT SPEEDOMETER NOISES WHICH SOUNDED LIKE A RATTLING SOUND. THE DEALER HAD BEEN NONE RESPONSIVE ABOUT ALL PRIOR PROBLEMS SO ANOTHER DEALER WAS CALLED CONCERNING THE SPEEDOMETER FAILURE AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE. NO EXPLANATION WAS GIVEN EXCEPT THAT IT HAPPENS.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
