2011 Ford F-150 Airbags Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the airbag system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Airbags reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while his fiancé was stopped at a stop sign, the vehicle accelerated violently after depressing the accelerator pedal, and the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle continued accelerating while depressing the brake pedal. The contact stated that the vehicle crashed through a yard, into a road sign, before crashing into the rear of a parked vehicle, where the vehicle came to a stop. The contact stated that the air bags failed to deploy upon impact. The driver sustained whiplash and soreness in various parts of the body but had not sought medical attention. A Police report was filed. The road sign was damaged. The driver coasted the vehicle back to the residence before the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. A diagnostic test was performed on the vehicle; however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure or duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

Driver's seat was adjusted in order to fit toddler seat in back seat. Air-bag warning light came on on dash. After research on the Internet we saw a lot of owners were having the same problem. Not on this year and model only and various reasons caused the problem. It does seem to be isolated to the wiring under the seat. The light will go off at times and then come back on after a few days. Are there enough vehicles to prompt a recall? This is a safety issue with the Air-bags may not functionally properly. Thank you.

Have had the vacuum pump replaced twice and it’s dead again causing brake failure, the timing chain stretch already cost me one engine and now a year later the chain has stretched again on the new motor not very happy about that and passenger air bag turns on and off randomly with no codes only a warning again for no reason.

Both my airbag lights remained on & off between 2017 until 2019, after more than 4 repairs 2013-2015 on the airbag system, according to the dealer I have to change the evaporator every 2 years. But since the last repair of the A/C in 2015 it is still working. In 2017 i had some throttle problems, I had to clean my fuel injectors and throttle body and change the sparkplugs. Both airbag light remained on/off. On 26 january 2019 my power steering failed and both airbag lights remained permanently on. I had to buy a new racking pin February i 2019. With regard to airbag lights after scanning they told me I have to change the OCT ,or the airbags, after the latest scan july 2019 I had to change both seat belts. I still have not change them. I donot trust them any more ( the dealer went suddenly bancrupt nov 2021) I have the impression my problems are either factory made maybe recalls can shed more light and or bad unprofessional service. My latest problem since 24 sept 2021 is failure of the transmission 6R80 the scan result P0720, P0722 recommendation replace lead frame connector, the filter, gasket and the oil. NHTSA & Ford have recalls/CSP since 2016 till end 2020 on the lead mold frame problem . According to the new local dealer I am not eligible for the recall/CSP because 10 years has passed . " the warranty cover a total of 10 years or either 150.000 miles whichever occurs first" , . I bought my F 150 xlt 2011 3.7L ecoboost on 13 april 2011 but my mileage is since 24 September 86.681 miles . Can i apply for recall or CSP ? My result of vin # says 0 unrepaired recalls , what does that mean .I have sent FoMoCO 3 letters since october 2021 they never answered me . I am an international /foreign client living in Curacao former Netherlands Antilles. Do we share as clients the same benefits as USA clients?

2011 FORD F-150 TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH TRAVELING STRAIGHT AND ANOTHER TRUCK TURNED IN FRONT OF THE F-150. BRAKES WERE PRESSED AND COULD NOT STOP FAST ENOUGH TO AVOID THE COLLISION. TRUCK AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. NOT SURE IF AIR BAG FAILURE OR TRUCK WIRING/COMPUTER COMMUNICATION FAILURE. WOULD BE NICE TO GET MORE INFORMATION ON WHY THE AIR BAGS WOULD HAVE NOT DEPLOYED.

COMPLAINT OUR 2011 FORD F150 HAD AN INVOLUNTARY AIRBAG DEPLOY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER FURTHER REVIEW FROM THE FORD DEALER THEY MAINTAIN THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE CAUSE IS. CURRENTLY FORD IS REVIEWING HOWEVER, WILL NOT RESPOND TO WHEN THE EVALUATION WILL TAKE PLACE OR HOW LONG THE EVALUATION WILL TAKE AND THAT FORD COUNCIL IS "REVIEWING" HOWEVER, THEY WILL NOT TELL US WHEN WE CAN EXPECT A RESPONSE OR REMEDY IF AT ALL. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START AND FORD DEALER AND FORD CORPORATE ARE TELLING US, THOUGHT THE VEHICLE DOES HAVE A SHORT IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND THERE ARE MELTED WIRES THAT COULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE HAD WE NOT STOPPED THE VEHICLE, THEY ARE NOT SURE THE PREMATURE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND THE SHORT CIRCUIT OF THE WIRING ARE RELATED. THOUGH THE INCIDENT HAPPENED AT THE SAME TIME THE FORD DEALER MAINTAINS THAT THEY ARE NOT CONVINCED THAT IT FAILURES ARE RELATED. WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY OUT OF STATE FROM WHERE WE LIVE AND THE DEALER WAS OVER HUNDRED MILES FROM THE OCCURRENCE AND IT HAS NOW BEEN 7 DAYS AT THE DEALER WITH NO RESOLVE OFFERED NOT DO WE KNOW WHEN WE MIGHT HEAR BACK. CURRENTLY THE DEALER REFUSES TO WORK ON THE TRUCK UNTIL THEY HEAR FROM FORD AND FORD TOLD US IT IS UNDER REVIEW WITH LEGAL AND NO ACTIONS WILL BE DONE UNTIL "LEGAL COUNCIL" HAS REVIEWED. WE HAVE A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AND WE CALL DAILY AND IT APPEARS THAT THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. CAN WE OBTAIN HOW THIS WAS RESOLVED? *TR

I WRECKED MY 2011 F150 ECOBOOST, I HIT A 4 FT CULVERT AND 4 TREES, TO WHICH THE 4TH STOPPED ME. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY OR ATTEMPT TO DEPLOY, IN WHICH CASE CAUSED ME TO HAVE WHIPLASH AND SEVERELY SPRAINED ANKLE W/TORN LIGAMENTS AND TENDONS REQUIRING A HALF CAST AND WALKING BOOT. HOW THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED AND TIME WAS APPROXIMATELY 9:40ISH P.M. I CAME AROUND A CURVE, WITH CRUISE SET ON 60 MPH, THERE WAS A TRACTOR TRAILER IN THE MAJORITY OF MY LANE, I SWERVED TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID IT. WHEN I HIT THE CULVERT MY TRUCK DASHBOARD SAID SOMETHING ABOUT TRAC ON AND OK, I WENT AIRBORN, THE CULVERT BROKE A TIE ROD AND THE TREES TOOK OUT THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY TRUCK, THE LAST TREE I HIT STOPPED ME.....I CALLED FORD AND THEY ARE REFERRING IT TO THEIR LEGAL DEPARTMENT, SUPPOSE TO BE SENDING SOMEONE OUT TO LOOK AT MY TRUCK (I MIGHT ADD THAT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WAS BROKE OUT TOO) AND BE CONTACTING ME IN A 15 DAY RANGE PERIOD. IN THE MEAN TIME....I THINK IT WAS A SAFETY HAZARD AND NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO.
