What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2011 Ford F-350, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Annual inspection of the Progress Manufacturing Equal-I-Zer (model number 90-02-1200) steel head assembly revealed cracks in the welds holding the two steel plates that support the spring bar sockets and the welds that attach the head component (part with the hitch ball) to the U-shaped bracket that attaches/bolts the head to the shank that is inserted into the receiver. I have pictures of the cracked welds. The assembly has been sent to a certified welding/fabrication shop for repair at my expense. If the welds failed, two scenarios are very likely: 1. The spring bars will separate from the head assembly, releasing two 20+ pound steel rods in an uncontrolled and unconstrained manner onto the pavement. Of the tow vehicle, trailer, or another car are struck by one or both rods, the result could be severe damage and/or injury. 2. If the welds holding the head assembly containing the hitch ball to the U-shaped bracket that is bolted to the shank failed, the entire hitch assembly and trailer would detach from the tow vehicle; the safety chains would provide the only mechanism to keep the trailer from detaching completely from the tow vehicle. Severe damage could occur to the trailer and tow vehicle. If the safety chains fail, the trailer would careen uncontrolled into other drivers on the road. A master welder and certified weld inspector looked at the pictures of the cracked welds and stated that "Lack of weld metal fusion, likely it was there when you bought it." I posted the pictures of my cracked welds on three FaceBook groups focused on RVing with approximately 300,000 members. Several members stated they, too, found cracks in their welds. The manufacturer was sent the pictures. They refused to stand behind their product and told me to buy a replacement head for $275.00. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. There may be a systemic welding problem at the PM factory.
VEHICLE HIT A POTHOLE ON INTERSTATE 75 NORTH NEAR DALTON GEORGIA AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MILES PER HOUR. THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL AND FRONT END VIOLENTLY SHOOK AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK SO BAD CONTROL OF THE F350 BECAME AN ISSUE. I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE UNTIL I SLOWED TO BELOW 20 MILES PER HOUR. THE INCIDENT PRESENTED A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE

WHILE DRIVINGMY FORD F350 CREW CAB LONGBED DIESEL 4X4 AT 70 MPH ON INTERSTATE 10, A 4 LANE HWY IN EACH DIRECTION, THE TRUCK LOST ALL ENGINE POWER AND POWER ASSIST TO THE BRAKES AND POWER STEERING. LUCKILY THE TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE OFF THE HWY WITHOUT COMING IN CONTACT WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP CAME APART AND PUT METAL SHAVING EVERYWHERE THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM. FORD RECOMMENDED REPLACING ALL OF THE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM THIS INCLUDED ALL NEW FUEL INJECTORS. THIS REPAIR COST $9,000.. A SEARCH OF THE INTERNET REVEALED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN FAILURE. I HAD AN INDEPENDENT LAB TEST THE FUEL. THERE WERE NO CONTAMINANTS IN THE FUEL EXCEPT THE METAL SHAVING FROM THE PUMP. ( THE FORD FUEL SYSTEM RECIRCULATES THE EXCESS FUEL BACK TO THE TANK) THE TRUCK HAS 115000 MILES. I HAD THE FORD MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT WITH THE 5000 MILE SERVICES OPTION. FORD HAS PROVIDED ALL OF THE SERVICE INCLUDING THE ONES AFTER THE MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT ENDED. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR TO UNDERTAKE ON A 7 YEAR OLD VEHICLE. ENGINEERING CHANGES COULD HAVE PREVENTED THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE. A POST PUMP FILTER OR SCREEN WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THE REST OF THE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM FROM NEEDING REPLACEMENT. AN ADVISORY ABOUT THE POTENTIAL PUMP FAILURE AND REPLACING THE PUMP BEFORE FAILURE WOULD HAVE COSTED LESS THAN $2000. HAD I BEEN TOWING NEAR FULL GCWR, 21,000 LBS AND COME UP ON LOS ANGELES STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, THIS COULD HAVE BE A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT.

I WAS DRIVING AND MY STEERING ARMS CAUGHT ON FIRE.
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH, HIT BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THE WHOLE FRONT END STARTS WOBBLING SO BAD AND HAD TO SLOW WAY DOWN TO GET IT TO STOP. WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY VEHICLE BEHIND ME AND CAR PULLED BESIDE ME AND WAS POINTING AT FRONT OF TRUCK, SO I THOUGHT I HAD A FLAT. PULLED OFF ROAD AND NO FLAT, SCARED ME SO WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND PROCEEDED ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON A COUPLE OCCASIONS, ALWAYS WHEN HIT A BY SPOT IN ROAD, ONCE GOING OVER SMOOTH RAILROAD TRACKS. ALSO WILL BE DRIVING AND FOOT ON GAS PEDAL AND ALL OF SUDDEN HAVE NO POWER. TRUCK WILL LOOSE ALL POWER OUT OF NOWHERE WHILE DRIVING AND OTHER TIMES WILL DRIVE JUST FINE. HAVE HAD TROUBLE IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WITH IT STARTING, HAVE REPLACED BATTERIES TWICE AND PERIODICALLY WILL NOT TURN OVER, IT'S LIKE THE BATTERIES ARE COMPLETELY DEAD WHEN THEY ARE NOT.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-350 equipped with Toyo Tires, Tire Line: Open Country AT II, Tire Size: LT295/65/R20, DOT Number: 73D9M7L2017. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH and towing a fifth-wheel trailer, he noticed the vehicle was unbalanced on the rear driver’s side. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to park at a nearby parking lot and noticed a 4-inch blister on the side of the rear driver’s side tire. The contact replaced the tire with a spare tire and continued driving to his destination. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was determined that all four tires needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer of the tire had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 91,797.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-350 equipped with Cooper Tires, Tire Line: Discover AT/3 XLT, DOT Number: UT15/1/ne/201915l, Tire Size: 275/70/R18. The contact stated that he was in the process of placing winter tires on the vehicle and noticed that two of the tires had formed irregular bubbles on the side of tires. The contact took the tires to a local tires shop where they stated they would replace only one of the tires under warranty coverage. The contact was concerned after finding out the tire manufacturer had recalls on similar tires that were purchased, but not the exact tires he owned. The contact was also concerned that the tires could cause an accident if a failure was experienced while driving on the tires. The tires were not replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage on the tires was 1,934. The vehicle failure mileage was unavailable.

POWER FOLDING SIDE REAR VIEW MIRRORS WILL NOT HOLD THEIR POSITION SETTING CAUSING LACK OF ABILITY TO MONITOR TRAFFIC ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION.
MY 2011 F-350 TRUCK'S HEATING SYSTEM SUDDENLY WOULD NOT SWITCH LOCATIONS. IT WAS STUCK ON DASHBOARD HEATING, AND WOULD NOT SWITCH TO THE FLOOR OR TO THE DEFROST. THE TRUCK IS 2 YEARS OLD. AT THE BEGINNING OF WINTER, DRIVING WITHOUT DEFROST IS RATHER HAZARDOUS AS IT IS DIFFICULT TO DEFROST THE WINDSHIELD. I HAD TO PAY TO GET IT FIXED, AND IT COST ME $1862.37. I FEEL THAT ANY VEHICLE'S HEATING SYSTEM OUGHT TO OPERATE WITHOUT ISSUES FOR A DECADE OR MORE, SO IT WAS RATHER FRUSTRATING TO HEAR THAT FORD WOULD NOT COVER IT ON MY 2 YEAR OLD VEHICLE. BESIDES THE COMMON SENSE FRUSTRATION FACTOR, IT COULD BE A SAFETY CONCERN IF IT IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN THAT PEOPLE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO DEFROST THE WINDSHIELD, WHICH COULD RESULT IN EXCESSIVE FROST BUILDUP IN NORTHERN CLIMATES, WHICH CAN BLOCK THE DRIVER'S VISION AND RESULT IN A CRASH. *TR
