2019 Ford Fusion Driver assistance Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the driver-assistance system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Driver assistance reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The rear view camera operates intermittently. Sometimes it works fine, other times the picture is blank or is extremely blurry with horizontal lines through it or the screen just displays snow. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. it can work in the morning, but not when I leave to go home after work. It can works for days, then not work for days. I called Ford due to an article that came across my news feed about rear camera recalls, but Ford said I'm not covered. This has been going on for several months now. A dealer wanted to charge several hundred dollars to check it out, but I didn't want to pay. To me this should be covered under warranty.

I have a 2019 ford fusion turbo engine and everytime I accelerate the turbo is wicking into the pcm the control module which is causing hazards sucking as at random times whenever I turn left the steering wheel with get stuck and the brakes will lock for a couple seconds and then go back to normal. I had Meineke do a diagnostic on the car and they showed oil in the pcm aswell as the loss of connection between the pcm and its sensors. They drove the car and while driving the car going 20mph the car is reading as going 100

My front camera is often unavailable. I took it in multiple times and they couldn’t find an issue. Recently my back up camera has been acting up. It is unavailable most of the time, other times the screen is black, sometimes it’ll work and then cut out. There is a recall on other ford vehicles for this issue. I looked up if it needs a software update and it doesn’t. We’ve checked the camera and wiring harness and they’re both intact and in good condition.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Lane Departure Assist failed to function as intended. The contact stated that while driving in the desired lane, the vehicle was pulling into another lane. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The contact stated that the vehicle had previously been serviced at the dealer several times. The contact stated that the engine and the transmission had been replaced after the vehicle was purchased a year ago. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was informed of a possible buyback of the vehicle. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.

Upon traveling we noticed a loud engine knocking when the car was at idle. We immediately pulled over and checked the engine. The coolant level was lower than normal and the engine oil level was fine. We immediately returned home and parked the car. While returning home the front camera continued to display an error message that it was not working and would repeat every 30 seconds. After doing research I read that Ford has known about the Fusion Ecoboost having a design flaw where coolant leaks into the cylinder heads and can crack the head as well as a flexplate crack that appears. They issued a "fix" for the flexplate to some models and I would like this applied to my car as I feel they knowingly continued to sell this model with the issues without prior warnings or notices.

Major safety concern. The vehicle gets stuck in first gear while the engine is running and the brake is released. It used to only do it when the vehicle had the engine auto-shut off featured turned on but now it does it permanently. I stopped driving the vehicle because there is a high risk of causing an accident.

My situation started with pulling the car out of the garage one morning going to work. Shaking was experienced, after a couple of times with that happening, one morning heading out for work the light came on the dashboard, I immediately setup an appointment with AAA, who once started working on the car felt they had resolved the issue, however the same day I drove off the premises for AAA the light came back on, I ended up taking the car back to them four times before they stated they could not resolve the problem and suggested I take it to Ford, which I did. Once there I was informed by the advisor the car was in recall and they would provide me with a loaner until repairs were done. I drove the loaner for two weeks only to be called by the advisor and informed that my car would not qualify for repairs and he needed the loaner back right away because he was possibly in trouble. I had a conversation about why, what etc but no good news. I returned the loaner and took my car home where it has been because I don’t have $7000.00 for a new motor.

This has happened multiple times now. Always happens at high speeds (greater than 45 mph). I will be driving on a highway when I unexpectedly lose the ability to accelerate. First noticed in correlation with the collision detection feature showing on the display as NOT FUNCTIONING. That does not happen anymore, but I still lose the ability to accelerate periodically. Once I can safely remove myself from the flow of traffic and stop/restart my car the issue is resolved. Makes me believe this is electrical/computer origin. The vehicle was taken to the dealership twice where they claim “cannot duplicate” but are willing to replace any item that I will pay for out of pocket. The dealership does not want to honor my extended warranty. The vehicle was purchased new in 2019. Within one year they had to replace half my engine (which they decided to do without warning when I dropped off for an oil change). The vehicle was stolen in 2023 (recovered by me in under 24 hours). Multiple cosmetic issues were repaired by a Ford authorized service team. This issue presented about 1.5 months ago 4+ months after the vehicle was repaired.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the rear-view camera activated while in drive, and later failed to turn off after reversing. The contact also stated that the instrument panel and infotainment system acted erratically, turning off, not reacting to function buttons, and freezing. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the APIM. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 19,000.

I HAVE 2019 FORD FUSION WITH ONLY 6400 MILES. AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND TOOK THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY DENIED TO COVER AIRBAG MODULE REPLACEMENT UNDER WARRANTY. AIRBAG MODULE WAS BAD AND DEALERSHIP DENIED TO COVER BECAUSE I HAD SMALL DENT DAMAGED ON THE QUARTER PANEL WHEN I BOUGHT IT. CAR DRIVES FINE BUT HAS AIRBAG LIGHT ON DUE TO BAD MODULE FROM THE MANUFACTURE.

SIMILAR TO NHTSA ID# 11290551, I TOO EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION OF MY VEHICLE OVER THE SET SPEED ON THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS IN BOTH MEDIUM (35-45MPH) AND HIGHWAY (50-65MPH) SPEEDS. I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE, CURRENTLY UNDER 15K MILES. PERIODIC VISUAL INSPECTIONS BY OWNER, ALL VEHICLE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED BY DEALERSHIP AS PER OWNER'S MANUAL. WHILE I NEVER LET THE CAR TAKE OVER THE DRIVER, IT CONCERNS ME IF THIS HAPPENS WITH MY WIFE DRIVING IT AS SHE MAY NOT HAVE THE SAME THINKING THAT I DO. ASIDE OF THAT, THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL FEATURE IS INCONSISTENT IN DETECTING VEHICLES WHILE SWITCHING LANES OR IN FLAT SURFACED CURVES, REGARDLESS OF THE WEATHER (HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES DURING CLEAR DAYS AND UNDER MODERATE RAIN). THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE SO IT RETURNS TO THE SET SPEED. WHILE THE FEATURE WORKS OK MOST OF THE TIME, THOSE INCONSISTENCIES CAN CAUSE SEVERE PROBLEMS ON HIGHWAY SPEEDS - WHICH IS THE PLACE THEY ARE MOST USED AT. ONCE AGAIN, WHILE I FEEL I AM ALWAYS IN CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE, I GET CONCERNED FOR MY WIFE. SHE DOES NOT DO HIGHWAYS OR DRIVES LONGER THAN A 10 MILES RADIUS TO A FEW KNOWN LOCATIONS BY HERSELF. BY THE FEW TIMES I EXPERIENCED THE REPORTED, I'VE CONSIDERED IF THE VEHICLE WITH THE CLAIMED ADDED SAFETY FEATURES WERE WORTH THE PURCHASE AND ARE TRULY READY FOR WIDE ADOPTION.

WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET, PRESSING THE + BUTTON AND HOLDING FOR A FEW SECONDS TO INCREASE THE SPEED A FEW MILE PER HOUR WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO CONTINUE ACCELERATING UNTIL THE 'CANCEL' BUTTON OR THE 'OFF' BUTTON IS PRESSED. PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL ALSO STOP THE RUN AWAY ACCELERATION. DURING THE RUN-AWAY ACCELERATING, PRESSING THE + BUTTON OR THE - BUTTON WILL NOT STOP THE ACCELERATION. ADDITIONALLY, WITH CRUISE SET, PRESSING THE - BUTTON FOR A FEW SECONDS WILL CAUSE A RUN-AWAY DECELERATION. THE VEHICLE IS PRESENTLY BEING LOOKED AT BY THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS BOUGHT. IN THE MEAN TIME, I WAS GIVEN A 2019 FUSION HYBRID AS A LOANER VEHICLE AND THAT CRUISE CONTROL DOES THE SAME THING: RUN-AWAY ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION WHEN PRESSING THE + OR - BUTTON. THE VEHICLE WAS CHECKED MANY TIMES AND WAS CRUISING ANYWHERE FROM 50 MPH TO 70 MPH WHEN THE + AND - BUTTON WAS PRESSED. I NOTICED THAT THE RUN-AWAY DECELERATION WAS QUITE PRONOUNCED COMPARED TO THE ACCELERATION.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 FORD FUSION. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SEIZED. WHEN THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL RETURNED TO NORMAL. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES SEIZED WHILE IN TRAFFIC THIS WEEK, WHICH ALMOST CAUSED A CRASH AND THE CHECK MANUAL WARNING MESSAGE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FLAMMER FORD (3335 COMMERCIAL WAY, SPRING HILL, FL 34606, (352) 686-8255) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT AN AUTO STOP/START MODULE NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED, BUT AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 9, 2019. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND WOULD NOT ALLOW THE DEALER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE COULD NOT BE READ DURING THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,070.
