What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2015 Ford Mustang, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
While driving, I attempted to depress my clutch pedal in order to bring my vehicle to a stop. My clutch pedal only went halfway to the floor. I was able to force it down to the floor using a higher than usual amount of force. After bringing my vehicle to a stop I inspected my clutch pedal and found that it had side to side play resulting from a cracked weld where the clutch pedal was welded to a shaft on the clutch/brake pedal assembly. Upon further research online I discovered that other owners of similarly aged mustangs have had identical issues to what happened to me.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that while driving 35 MPH and attempting to depress the brake pedal, the clutch pedal detached from the brake pedal assembly. Neither an independent mechanic nor a dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired; however, the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 115,724.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
I am filing a formal safety complaint regarding a catastrophic Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) failure and severe electrical short circuit on my 2015 Ford Mustang. This vehicle is exhibiting hard fault code B137F:09 (Steering Wheel Left Switch Pack: Component Failure / Short to Ground or Open). This electronic failure creates an immediate, severe safety hazard that goes entirely outside the scope of normal vehicle wear and tear. While driving, the vehicle's steering wheel pulls and jerks violently on its own, actively fighting my manual steering inputs. Furthermore, this internal electronic short creates a massive parasitic electrical draw that prevents the vehicle's computer modules from entering sleep mode when turned off. This has resulted in the primary vehicle battery draining completely flat and causing the vehicle to completely shut down, stall, or lose total electrical power altogether. A vehicle that forcefully steers itself away from the intended path of travel and suffers total electrical shutdown is a clear, life-threatening safety risk to myself and others on the road. Ford Motor Company is fully aware of this dangerous defect. They previously issued Safety Recall 15S18 for a very specific, limited batch of early-production 2015 Mustangs experiencing identical EPAS failures, replacing their steering gears for free. For the remaining 2015 Mustang owners experiencing the exact same hazardous failure, Ford quietly shifted the issue over to a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB / SSM 51312). By limiting the scope of Recall 15S18 purely due to the financial cost of a universal recall, Ford has left an entire population of 2015 Mustang owners in direct harm's way. Some owners received a free lifetime safety fix, while the rest of us are being forced to pay thousands of dollars out-of-pocket to correct an identical factory electronic defect. I request that the NHTSA immediately open an investigation into Ford's handling of the 2015 Mustang EPAS and more.
When putting the vehicle into reverse the backup camera displayed an unusable red fuzzy screen. Backup camera was unable to assist in safely reversing and mirrors and parking sensors had to be used
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that while reversing, the rear-view camera displayed a black screen. The dealer was made aware of the failure, and the contact was informed that parts needed to be ordered to repair the vehicle. The contact stated the dealer had been contacted several times, and the contact was informed that the parts were unavailable. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact later received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V572000 (Back Over Prevention). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was informed that the parts were available. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Mustang. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 25V572000 (BACK OVER PREVENTION) and 25V614000 (SEAT BELTS). The contact stated that the rearview camera displayed a distorted image while the vehicle was in reverse(R), and occasionally a blank screen was displayed. The message "Rear-view Camera Unavailable - Contact Dealer" was displayed. The contact stated that the failure had obstructed the driver's visibility, which prevented the driver from safely operating the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer inspected the rearview camera and informed the contact that the camera had passed the inspection and the recall repair was not needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim

I was driving down the highway with heater on and defrost. All of a sudden I hear a pop and my car started bogging down. I exited the highway to get out of danger, it then had a wrench light ( transmission) pop up and when I parked the car on the access road it started smoking a lot. I turned the vehicle off immediately and when I seen smoke coming from under the hood and into the cab of the car. I lifted the hood after seeing fire in the passenger wheel well. And then in the engine block towards the windshield in the middle of the engine. I am a fire fighter and it appeared to me that the fire was being fed by some kind of substance. Fort Worth Fire department showed up and put the fire out and took a report.
Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
My passenger door latch pops open nearly every time I drive on the highway. The latches were previously the subject of Safety Recall 16S30. I had my vehicle inspected by a Ford Dealership. No repairs or work was deemed necessary at that time. In the years since, my door now comes unlatched. Infrequently at first and now with very alarming frequency. Safety Recall 20S30 was issued specifically to address these inspections and recalls being completed ineffectually. Somehow my VIN has been left off of this recall even though it was on the 2016 one. The dealership is trying to charge me nearly $2000 to fix a known safety issue. This seems unreasonable, unfair, and extremely dangerous.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Mustang. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V082000 (Back Over Prevention). The vehicle was dropped off at the dealer for service and remained at the dealer for two days. The contact was then informed that the mechanic in charge of servicing the recall was out sick; the dealer was uncertain if the recall repair had been serviced prior to the mechanic's absence. The contact chose to take possession of the vehicle, and the recall was removed from the vehicle. Recently, the contact stated that the trunk failed to open manually or with the key fob. The contact decided to tie a string to the emergency truck release, which was inserted through the back seat to open the trunk. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, where the contact was informed that the wiring to the trunk and backup camera were all connected. The contact was informed that the trunk failure could lead to a rear-view camera failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 118,000.
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
Clutch assembly failed, the metal bracket weld cracked/failed resulting in the clutch pedal being inoperable. It's not available for inspection since I had it replaced and the defective assembly disposed of. My safety was at risk since I had extreme difficulty shifting gears on the road. The issue was confirmed at an independent service center - AAMCO of Huntsville, AL. No other entity inspected the part. The vehicle gave me no warning or indication of a problem other than the difficulty with starting and operating it.
The evaporator is leaking and apparently is a known issue from ford and they didn't report this. The evaporator core is leaking and it blows hot air for a good amount. It draws a lot of power form the system and drops the rpm below idling. Forcing me to rev a cold engine so that it does not stall out.
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
With only 32,885 miles, engine light came on due to (P0456) EVAP small leak. Went to an auto shop and Ford dealer for diagnostic scan. Both technicians found that there is a bit of smoke coming out from the top of the fuel tank due to a small stress crack at the port near the canister vent hose as well as a small crack below fuel pressure sensor tube. New fuel tank replacement was recommended as the crack could not be repaired. Cost to fix is $1,400 parts and $1,200 labor. This small crack nears the fuel tank seems to be a major concern for owners as it could increase the risk of vehicle fire and should be a recall by Ford for immediate remedy.
Interior & seats
Reports naming seats, latches, locks, linkages and interior fittings.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Mustang. The contact recently purchased the vehicle. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V331000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who refused to inspect the door latch codes. The contact was informed that it appeared that the recall repair was started; however, it was not completed. The dealer stated that since the remedy was not completed, it could not be finished. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and informed the contact to request the dealer to inspect and verify if the remedy had been completed. The dealer refused and stated that the software did not allow the dealer to inspect the vehicle. The failure mileage was 78,955.
I am writing to formally request an investigation into a potential recall issue regarding a heated seat module and module plug on my vehicle. Below are the details of my vehicle for your reference: * Make/Model: 2015 Ford Mustang Ecoboost * VIN (Vehicle Identification Number): [XXX] * Mileage: 183,367 I have encountered a burning/melted plastic smell along with smoke coming from my heated/cooled seat module box while operating the vehicle. This issue has impacted safety, and reduced functionality. I have contacted the dealership, and had the part inspected but the issue persists. Upon reviewing similar concerns online and through forums, I noticed other owners reporting comparable problems, starting with many different 2015-2020 ford model vehicles, which leads me to believe this may be a widespread issue. I respectfully request that Ford initiate an investigation to determine if this problem warrants a recall. I also ask for guidance on how to address this issue in the interim to ensure the continued safety of myself and others on the road. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Airbags
Reports naming the air-bag system — deployment behaviour, inflators, sensors and warning lights.
From owner reports, verbatim
The airbag light is on, the vehicle has not been in an accident. The vehicle has less than 50k miles on it. The bags have never deployed. I did not have this repaired. There is a seatbelt recall that affects airbags... Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2015 Ford Mustang vehicles manufactured August 18, 2014, to October 2, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the passenger safety belt tension sensor may misclassify the size of the front passenger seat occupant. This could cause a child size occupant to be classified as an adult and an adult passenger to be classified as a child passenger. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208, "Occupant Crash Protection." Does this cause the airbag light to come on???
There is a well known evaporator core issue with the Ford Mustangs/Trucks that were produced between the 2015-2017 models. Freon leaks out of the evaporator core due to poor build quality this creates a white film on the windshield of the vehicle that makes it hard for drivers to see. This happened to me when I first bought my car and I could have crashed but was able to safely pull over and clean the windshield off. This film buildup can happen at anytime and also releases an unpleasant order into the atmosphere that should not be breathed in and is very harmful to the environment. Ford is well aware of this issue and decided to avoid doing a recall to prevent the company from losing money. I am also having an airbag issue on my Mustang this one is current. I have not been in any accidents or driven the car in anyway to make the light come on. The drivers side airbag light is on and is indicating that their is an issue with my airbag system. This is a huge safety concern and I don't want to wait for something to happen for either of these issues to be fixed. The AC issue is new for me with Ford but out of the 4 mustangs I have owned 3 of them have all had recalls for an airbag issue. The first was my 2005 V6 base model. The second was my 2010 Mustang GT. and the third was my 2014 Mustang GT. This is now my 4th mustang and still having air bag issues. Please do something about any of these issues if you can. I am sure numerous of other people have experienced what I am experiencing. I have even done research and seen forums that are over 150 pages long regarding some of the safety issues mentioned in this message. Please and Thank You Very Much
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.

The steering gear including contour module went out. I was backing out and couldn’t turn my wheel my sisters boyfriend had to drive it home on a curvy road with no power steering. I have a local mechanic looking at it but they said the part is on back order which means this must happen a lot. They finally got the part and now are saying it won’t program so are needing to order another part. When I turned the car on to leave my destination it said service powersteering system and abs, but before that there were no warnings. I unplugged the battery for 30 minutes to rest the car and everything worked fine for another 1, then driving down the road it went out again.
Other / unspecified
Reports whose component NHTSA recorded as unknown, or that do not map to one of the categories above.
From owner reports, verbatim
UP -DATE to my previous complaint # 11609504. Ford dealer still had two-piece lock nut for sale at parts counter. Did not mention the recall for Fords two- piece nuts or mention the problem with this nut.
All wheel nuts had to be replaced when new tires were replaced Cost for the nuts $226. NO inspected or change the nuts that were swollen. by Ford. Did the recall No06tice end last year in August.
Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
My vehicle had a recall: Ford recall 22S06 involves 2015-2017 Ford Mustangs due to a potential issue with the rearview camera. The wiring for the rearview camera may be loose or damaged, causing the camera to display a blank or distorted image. This can reduce the driver's visibility behind the vehicle, potentially increasing the risk of a crash. The dealership at Ford Chapman Automobile claims the issue is fixed but they never fixed anything on my backup camera. It was blinking and they said it is normal for this vehicle. My backup camera is not working and they are refusing to fix it. I have contacted Ford but they also refer to the report from the dealership and say according to the dealership the problem is fixed and there is nothing that could do. My car has very limited visibility and this causes problems when backing up.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that the body seal under the passenger’s side front windshield had pinholes. There was water entering the vehicle onto the floorboard. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
Seat belts
Reports naming seat belts, buckles, retractors and pretensioners.
From owner reports, verbatim
The driver-side seat belt retractor on my 2015 Ford Mustang GT Premium has failed. The seat belt retracts back into the retractor housing when released; however, it does not lock when pulled sharply and continues to extend freely. I confirmed this by repeatedly performing a rapid pull test while seated in the vehicle. The failure affects the seat belt restraint system because the belt does not appear to engage its locking mechanism. This could increase the risk of injury in a crash because the seat belt may not properly restrain the occupant during sudden deceleration or impact. The issue was inspected and confirmed by a Ford dealership service department. The dealer diagnosed the driver-side seat belt retractor as failed and recommended replacement of the retractor assembly. The dealer provided an estimated repair cost of approximately $550 plus tax. The vehicle was inspected by Smith Ford in Conway, Arkansas. The vehicle was also inspected for a separate seat belt recall, and the recall inspection passed. The dealer advised that the failed retractor was not related to the recall and would require customer-paid repair. There were no warning lights, messages, or airbag system warnings present when the failure was discovered. The primary symptom was that the seat belt would retract normally but would not lock during a rapid pull test. The exact date the failure first occurred is unknown, but the condition was identified during normal vehicle operation and later confirmed by the dealership.
Exterior lighting
Reports naming headlights, tail lights, turn signals and other exterior lighting.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that before making a left turn the contact switched on the left turn light signal; however, upon making the left turn the contact noticed that the left turn signal on the instrument panel was flashing twice as fast as normal. The contact pulled over to inspect the vehicle. The contact became aware that the taillights were inoperable; however, after restarting the vehicle, the taillights became operable. The following day the contact drove to a local dealer where the vehicle was inspected; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact was informed that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed to determine the cause of the failure. The contact was made aware of SSM: 10144218 and linked it to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
The brake pedal stop bumper in my car disintegrated in the middle of the day and fell off. The brake lights do not turn off anymore and the vehicle can be started and shifted without needing to press the brake. I found a recall # 22S02 for this exact issue but my vehicle is not covered by it (assuming due to region). The vehicle has not been inspected yet.
Suspension
Reports naming suspension components — springs, struts, shocks, control arms and related hardware.
From owner reports, verbatim
When driving and going over a bump the rear shock completely ripped from the frame of the car
The Aluminum cast Crossmember that supports the transmission is cracked and split in several places .Shifting and or jumping in or out of gear .The dealer wanted $800.00 dollars to replace a $132. part That is hard to find in the marketplace ,because of others buying these faulty parts up ! No warning signs except hard to shift , cracked part was found by Benson ford in Easley S.C. The car has less than 70,000 miles on it . No warnings whatsoever !
Heating & air conditioning
Reports naming the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system.
From owner reports, verbatim
Heated seats stopped working smell of burning wires. Both seats make a clunking sound when moved.
Air conditioning & cooled seats no longer work. Only hot air blows. The car just barely has 28K miles. This has happened to multiple mustangs w low mileage.

Tires & wheels
Reports naming tires, wheels, hubs, or the tire-pressure monitoring system.
From owner reports, verbatim
ON A MONDAY MORNING, I GET IN MY CAR TO GO TO WORK AND THE VEHICLE'S WARNING SENSORS START TO GO OFF INDICATING THAT MY LEFT REAR TIRE HAS ONLY 15 PSI. NOW, ONLY THE NIGHT BEFORE, I WAS DRIVING AROUND WITH NO PROBLEMS ON MY TIRES SO THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE I MUST HAVE PICKED UP SOMETHING ON MY WAY HOME LIKE A NAIL OR A SCREW. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE NEAREST TIRE SHOP AND WHEN THEY INSPECTED THE TIRE THEY INDICATED THERE WAS A BULGE IN THE INNER EXTERIOR OF THE TIRE. WHEN I ASKED THEM WHAT THAT MEANT THEY INFORMED ME THAT A BULGE USUALLY CREATED WHEN DRIVING THROUGH A POTHOLE. I WAS INDICATED THAT IT MUST HAVE BEEN A SIGNIFICANT POTHOLE TO CREATE SUCH A CONDITION ON A FAIRLY NEW TIRE BUT THE PROBLEM IS THAT I NEVER RAN OVER A POTHOLE. THE WHEELS DO NOT HAVE ANY BENDS OR SCRATCHES INDICATING IT WENT THROUGH A POTHOLE THE SIZE OF WHICH NEEDED TO BE SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE DAMAGE. THIS IS A NEW VEHICLE WITH ONLY 4,800 MILES AND FACTORY TIRES. BECAUSE THE BULGE IS AT THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE, THE ONLY COURSE OF CORRECTIVE ACTION IS THE REPLACE THE TIRE.
FORD HAS FAILED TO MAKE A SPARE WHEEL/TIRE AVAILABLE FOR THE 2015 MUSTANG. IT IS NOT STANDARD ON ALL VEHICLES (A TIRE INFLATION KIT IS ALL IT COMES WITH) AND THE SPARE WHEEL/TIRE IS ON BACK ORDER FOR ALL DEALERSHIPS BECAUSE SUPPLY IS LOW AND PRODUCTION IS BEING PRIORITIZED OVER OWNER AVAILABILITY. THEREFORE, I AM STUCK WITHOUT A SPARE WHEEL/TIRE. I HAVE EVEN TRIED TO PROCURE AN AFTERMARKET SPARE AND 3 DIFFERENT TIRE STORES HAVE TOLD ME THEY DO NOT HAVE A COMPATIBLE SPARE AVAILABLE. FORD IS HANDLING THE AVAILABILITY OF A SPARE WHEEL/TIRE AS A SHORTAGE OF AN "ACCESSORY" AS IF IT IS A FLOOR MAT, RATHER THAN A SAFETY CRITICAL PART AS A SPARE WHEEL/TIRE IS. *TR
