Owner-reported complaints naming the electrical system, filed with NHTSA
Data refreshed
Electrical reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Was driving, all the sudden I heard a pop and a little bit of smoke and the smell of burning plastic came from under passenger seat. Pulled over, noticed it was coming from electrical harness under seat that controls the heated and cooled seats. Disconnected plug and saw that it had burnt out & caught fire. Have left it unplugged with no incident since.

Horn when first pushed does not work....Push it 3-4 times rapidly and it works fine...Intermittent....Yesterday a kid not paying attn pulled out in front of me on a bicycle....I hit the horn, horn did not work, came sooooo close to hitting him......With a horn operating properly it would not have been as nearly deadly as it was......Took it to my dealer, was told it is a common known problem, about $1000.00 to troubleshoot and fix....This is a extremely dangerous defect, known to everyone and should be a recall.....The expense to fix is ridiculous to the point that very few are getting it fixed and it is a continuing deadly issue.....

Trunk stopped working about a year ago along with the backup camera. I understand this is a known issue & recall however I haven’t had the time to bring it in. Finally brought it in & they will only replace the wiring harness which fixed the trunk but not the backup camera which is what I understand to be the main issue of the recall so it makes no sense. If the wiring harness doesn’t fix the main safety issue why aren’t they responsible for replacing the camera? Thanks,

Was in the car during a very slow, around 5mph front end collision. The knee airbag went off at low speed. I. Exited the vehicle to look at damage and then I sat back in the driver seat. Upon sitting back in the driver seat I noticed the smoke that had cleared from the airbag had started to build back up and became more dense. I had my feet outside the door while sitting in the driver seat and when I when I looked around I noticed a fire getting larger and larger from the pillar to my left, between the rear seat and the front driver seat. I didn’t have anything to put it out so I tried to blow it out and it was getting larger and larger melting more of the plastic up the pillar. I ripped off a work shirt I had and was able to smother the fire with it. Had I not been able to smother it this fire would have engulfed the whole vehicle. After observing the damage the wiring harness had shorted out and burnt/ caught on fire that goes from the front of the vehicle to the back.there was no prior damage to the vehicle and no damage to the car other than the front end collision during the accident.

I have a 2017 Ford mustang eco-boost which has a faulty rear view camera. The camera glitches with distorted image with moving horizontal lines. For this exact same issue ford issued a manufacturer Recall Number22S06/22V082, but with a catch. In the recall report they mentioned that camera replacement will apply only for 2015 models. But this issue exists in 2017 models as well and ford need to consider to recall those as well.

This 2017 Ford Mustang was taken into Gillespie Ford for the RECALL on the rear back up camera. This was done on May 31, 2023. The dealer said they fixed the camera. I have only taken this vehicle out twice since they “fixed” it. Yesterday was extremely hot. When I used the backup camera in my garage after I got home, the camera image was distorted just as it was before the RECALL REPAIR. This problem with the camera has not been fixed properly and the dealer wants to charge me for any further repairs, even though it has not been fixed properly or FORD still has a severe issue with these cameras when they get hot. I would like someone to step up and make the dealer fix this as it was a RECALL. I believe I should NOT have to pay for another repair. They have not done this properly.

The 2015-17 all have the same issue with the ac system as a whole, it is very faulty and not safe. This is due to a manufacturing defect. The ac constantly blows hot air even when on cold and only on to the windshield which causes visibility issues which could be fatal for me or anyone on the road. I went to ford yesterday to ask about the issue which I was told “we only have one person today that can look at it” and was later told that he wouldn’t take a look, without any reasoning. I had to go to a different company to get my car diagnosed. As I stated before this is a occurring issue with the year make and model of my vehicle.

The vehicle was taken to two local dealers, Gosch Ford Escondido (1717 Auto Park Way S, Escondido, CA 92029) and North County Ford (450 W Vista Way, Vista, CA 92083) however, the failures could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired, and the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the warranty had expired and advised them to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 30,291.

I had a recall repaired on my 2017 Ford Mustang at a Ford dealership, the recall repair had to do with the backup/rearview camera not working properly. After they repaired the wiring in the trunk compartment, the back up camera is still not working properly and becomes blank or distorted when putting the vehicle in reverse. I called the dealership to have it looked at and fixed because the nhtsa website states that "Dealers will inspect and repair the decklid wiring harness AND/OR REPLACE THE REARVIEW CAMERA, as necessary, FREE OF CHARGE.". The dealership inspected my 2017 Mustang, again, and sent me a text message with a website link attached stating the cost for the repair and that I would need to pay for the repair totaling $316.59.

It will give the wrong reading then once you start driving It will reset. Air conditioning will not work got half way down the highway across country and the air conditioning stop work for 2 hours. Then it will only work on low until I turned off and on a couple times then it started blowing air. Remote start - cold start will not start sometimes or take a couple of times to start the vehicle and you have to be directly in front of the vehicle it will lock and open from your home but you have to walk directly in front of the vehicle for it to start.

FOR THE SECOND TIME MY HEATED/COOLED SEATS FAILED. THIS TIME FORD REPLACED THE CONNECTOR WITH AN UPDATED MODULE WITH ADDITIONAL GROUND WIRES. THE ORIGINAL CONNECTOR SHOWED BURNS AND THE ISSUE PRESENTS A FIRE HAZARD UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT. WHILE FORD GAVE ME A "BREAK" ON REPLACING WITH THE UPGRADED CONNECTOR, IT STILL COST ME $250+ AND DOESN'T ADDRESS THE FIRE HAZARD THAT THE ORIGINAL CONNECTION PRESENTS TO THE CAR THAT THEY HAVE NOT FIXED.

BACKUP CAMERA DOESN'T WORK. CHECKED AUTOMOTIVE BLOGS, SEEMS LIKE A COMMON PROBLEM. WIRING HARNESS IS CRIMPED BY DECK LID. MADE APPOINTMENT FOR WARRANTY WORK. SEEMS TO BE OF POOR DESIGN. WONDERING WHY A SERVICE BULLETIN HASN'T BEEN ISSUED. CONCERNED REGARDING FUTURE PROBLEMS WHEN NOT UNDER WARRANTY. FORD SHOULD ISSUE A SERVICE BULLETIN. POORLY DESIGNED COMPONENT. I'M GLAD IT WILL BE FIXED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT AM CONCERNED FOR FUTURE REPAIRS OR MORE SERIOUS RELATED ELECTRICAL SHORT CIRCUIT ISSUES. *TR
