Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

The defect: Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Vengenance BVGF312A, BCKT24PACK14, BVGF312A, BVGF315A11, BVGF316A, BVGF316A11, BVGF320A, BWZVGF312A, BWZVGF316A and BWZVGF320A trailers. The Federal Placard may indicate an incorrect amount of water for trailers with the 100-gallon option, allowing the trailer to be overloaded. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 120, "Wheels and Rims-Other than Passenger Cars" and 567, "Certification."
The risk: An overloaded trailer has an increased risk of a crash.
The remedy: Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will install a new placard that reflects the 100-gallon tank, free of charge. The recall began October 13, 2020. Owners may contact Forest customer service at 1-260-499-2100. Forest River's number for this recall is 17-1193.

The defect: Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2003-2018 Forest River Berkshire, Charleston, Rockport, Cedar Creek, Cherokee, Riverstone, Salem, Sandpiper, Sierra, Vengeance, Wildcat, Wildwood, XLR Boost, Cargo Mate, Continental Cargo, motorhomes, recreational trailers, toyhaulers, cargo trailers and restroom trailers and 2009-2018 Coachmen Mirada, Pursuit, Concord, Leprechaun, Freelander, Orion and Prism motorhomes, 2009-2017 Coachmen Apex and Catalina recreational trailers, and 2013-2017 Shasta Oasis and Revere recreational trailers, equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
The risk: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
The remedy: Forest River will notify owners, instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on December 27, 2017. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-800-348-7440, or Kidde customer service toll free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information. The defect: Forest River Inc. (Forest) is recalling certain model year 2009-2016 Forest River Cherokee and Vengeance recreational trailers manufactured May 16, 2008, to September 14, 2015. The wiring harness for the trailer's lights, electric brakes, battery charging and many of the interior 12V fixtures may have an insuffient ground wire.
The risk: With an insufficient ground wire, the wiring harness may overheat, increasing the risk of fire. Additionally, the ground wire failure would result in the loss of the trailer's external lights and electric brakes, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the trailer wiring harnesses, and upgrade the ground wires, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on October 20, 2015. Owners may contact Forest River's customer service number at 1-260-593-4005. Forest River's recall number is 17B-0918-2015-0090.

TRAILER WAS SOLD TO AS FOR THE PURPOSE OF A TOY HAULER. WE STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH THE SEAL AROUND FIFTH WHEEL AND IT WAS NOTICED BY OUR RV TECH THAT THE EXPANSION JOINT HAS EXCESSIVE PLAY RESULTING IN THE FLOOR COMING AWAY FROM THE WALL BY BEDROOM SLIDE. WE TOOK TRAILER DOWN TO A GOVERNMENT SCALE TO WEIGH TRAILER AND HAVE FOUND WE HAVE BEEN RUNNING THE TRAILER OVER WEIGHT BUT OUR CARGO CAPACITY HAS BEEN TO THE MAX OF THE TRAILER BUT LABELS ON THE TRAILER ARE INACCURATE. TRAILER READS THE DRY WEIGHT OF 11649 LBS BUT WHEN WEIGHED ITS 13060 LBS. TRAILER IS EQUIPED WITH A 100 GALLON WATER TANK BUT LABEL INDICATES A 50 GALLON WATER TANK WHICH WEIGHS FULL @ 416 LBS BUT WITH THE 100 GALLON TANK IT WEIGHS 833 LBS. TRAILER IS ALSO EQUIPED WITH A FUEL 30 GALLON FUEL TANK WITH NO WEIGHT RATINGS. WHEN WE FILL UNIT UP WITH FUEL, WATER OUR 2 QUADS THE TRAILER AXLES ARE OVER WEIGHT AND WE CAN NOT RUN FULL WHICH WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO AS THAT IS WHAT IT IS INTENDED FOR. AXLES ON THIS TRAILER ARE GOOD FOR 12000 LBS. WITH THE INACCURATE DRY WEIGHT WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO CARRY 1600 LBS OF CARGO WHICH FOREST RIVER STATES WE CAN RUN 3568 LBS (WHICH THERE REP INDICATES) BUT LABEL ON SIDE OF TRAILER INDICATES 3010 LBS BUT WHEN YOU DO THE MATH WE SHOULD BE AT 3048 LBS FOR CARGO CAPACITY. WE HAVE ALREADY REPLACED BRAKES, SOME TIRES AND NOW WE HAVE TO REPLACE THE SUSPENSION AND POSSIBLY ADD ANOTHER AXLE TO THIS UNIT TO CARRY THE CARGO DUE TO THE MISLEADING INFORMATION THAT FOREST RIVER HAS PROVIDED. WITH THE TRAILER BEING OVER WEIGHT OUR BRAKES ARE INADEQUATE FOR THIS TYPE OF TRAILER. ALSO WE HAVE HAD THE TIRES RUB THROUGH MATERIAL IN WHEEL WHEELS AND MATERIAL HAS WRAPPED AROUND AXLES AND HAVE HAD THE INSULATION HANGING WHICH COULD RESULT IN POSSIBLE FIRE DUE TO HEAVY BRAKING APPLICATION. TRAILER HAS BEEN WRONGFULLY REPRESENTED.

Manufacturer communications

A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY

The Federal Placard does not properly reflect the weight of the optional 100 Gallon Fresh Water Tank.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
