Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

The defect: Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Forest River Salem, Wildcat Maxx, Wildwood, Vibe, and Rainier recreational trailers. The break-away safety switch may not have been wired to a constant power source, and, as a result, the switch may be inadvertently disconnected from the trailer house battery causing the brakes to not engage if the trailer detaches from the tow vehicle.
The risk: If the trailer brakes cannot engage if the trailer detaches from tow vehicle, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
The remedy: Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will install a new wiring harness to reroute the wiring, free of charge. The recall began September 25, 2018. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-503-831-5410. Forest River's number for this recall is 22/30-0824.

The defect: Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Vibe recreational trailers, model ORVBT236RBS-64. The Federal Placard has incorrect rear tire information, indicating ST205/75R15C tires inflated to 50psi, when the actual tires are size ST225/75R15D inflated to 65psi. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."
The risk: The incorrect tire information can cause the operator to install the wrong size and load range of replacement tires, or underinflate the existing tires. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Forest River will notify owners will provide them a corrected Federal Placard, free of charge. The recall began on June 6, 2017. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-541-644-8063. Forest River's number for this recall is 64-05232017-0413.

The contact's son owns a 2016 Forest River VIBE Trailer. The contact stated that while the RV was parked, the son became aware that the tank cover underneath the trailer displayed an abnormal bulge. The son inspected the RV and noticed that the tanks underneath the trailer were excessively expanded. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with a recall related to the failure. The trailer was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure.

TRAILER IS RATED AT 9600# HAS 4400# AXLES INSTALLED. SPRINGS, SHACKLES AND BOLTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. LATEST FAILURE WAS A HUB BREAK WHILE UNDERWAY CAUSING LEFT REAR WHEEL TO LOCKUP. I BELIEVE THIS IS DUE TO UNDER ENGINEERING AS THE PARTS IM REPLACING ARE FOR A 3500# AXLE WHEN LOOKING UP PART NUMBERS. THIS MAKES MAX TRAILER LOAD 7000#

Fire reported

THIS TRAVEL TRAILER CAUGHT FIRE IN OUR DRIVEWAY AND BURNT. NO APPLIANCES WERE ON. THERE HAVE BEEN 3 FIRE INVESTIGATORS THAT HAVE SEARCH FOR THE CAUSE AND HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO IDENTIFY HOW OR WHY IT BURNT. WE OWNED THE TT FOR AROUND 550 DAYS, IT WAS IN THE REPAIR SHOP FOR AROUND 150 DAYS AND WE USED IT FOR 30 DAYS. BECAUSE THE INVESTIGATORS COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE ABSOLUTE CAUSE OF THE FIRE, THE MANUFACTURER CLAIMS THAT THEY ARE NOT AT FAULT. TRAILERS DO NOT SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUST UNLESS THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE MATERIALS OR WORKMANSHIP.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
