The defect: GEM WAEV LLC (GEM) is recalling certain 2022-2025 e2, e4, e6, and eLXD vehicles. The retaining fasteners between the ball joint and the hub strut may have been improperly tightened, which can result in ball joint separation from the wheel.
The risk: Ball joint separation can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Dealers will inspect and tighten the retaining fasteners or replace the ball joints as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 7, 2025. Owners may contact GEM customer service at 1-800-688-8680. This recall replaces NHTSA recall 24V971.

The defect: Polaris Industries, Inc. (Polaris) is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 GEM eLXD L09GVHA4X and L10GVHA4X hybrid electric vehicles manufactured November 25, 2008, to December 30, 2010. The affected vehicles have frame welds between the cab and cargo bed that may crack.
The risk: If the frame welds crack, the frame may fall and contact the pavement, stopping the vehicle suddenly and increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Polaris will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles free of charge. The recall began May 28, 2015. Owners may contact Polaris customer service at 1-888-704-5290. Polaris' recall number is L-15-01.

The defect: GEM IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009 NEIGHBORHOOD ELECTRIC VEHICLES. THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY CRIMPED. THIS COULD CAUSE THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE TO SEPARATE FROM THE ACTUATOR HANDLE WHILE APPLIED.
The risk: THE VEHICLE COULD ROLL AWAY ON A HILL CREATING A RISK OF CRASH OR INJURY.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PARKING BRAKE LEVER ASSEMBLY FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 10, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT GEM AT 866-764-0616.

NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioner's withdrawal, DP22-005 is closed. Closure of this DP does not represent a determination by NHTSA regarding the subject matter of the petition.
