Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR IS MALFUNCTIONING GIVING ME ERRONEOUS HIGH AND LOW READINGS. I NOTICED IN AUGUST 2011, GM ISSUED A SPECIAL COVERAGE FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, HOWEVER IT WAS ONLY GOOD FOR 10 YEARS OR 120,000 MILES. MY ENVOY IS 11-1/2 YEARS OLD, BUT ONLY HAS APPROX. 87,500 MILES ON IT. SEEING THIS IS AN OBVIOUSLY SAFETY ISSUE WHICH HAS LED TO AT LEAST 1 KNOWN ACCIDENT, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS ANYWAY THAT YOU CAN HELP ME GET GM TO EXTEND THE COVERAGE TO MY ENVOY? MY ENVOY ALSO RECENTLY HAD A SPECIAL COVERAGE INITIATED FOR THE HEADLAMP DRIVER MODULE (HDM). I WAS ABLE TO GET THAT FIXED BECAUSE GM ISSUED THE COVERAGE FOR A TOTAL OF 12 YEARS AND 150,000 MILES. SO THE PRECEDENT HAS BEEN SET TO PROVIDE COVERAGE FOR A VEHICLE MY AGE. ANY HELP THAT YOU COULD PROVIDE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANK YOU. LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAILED DURING DRIVING AT NIGHT NEARLY CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. MANY LIVES COULD BE AFFECTED BECAUSE OF THIS WELL KNOWN DESIGN ISSUE NOT BEING ADDRESSED BY GMC. THERE IS A GMC RECALL FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM, BUT MY VEHICLE ISN'T INCLUDED. GMC NEEDS TO RE-EVALUATE THIS ISSUE AND INCLUDE MORE VEHICLES. THEY KNOW THE PROBLEM EXISTS AND SHOULD MAKE EFFORTS TO INCLUDE ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES. *TR

ENGINE

This service bulletin provides information for maintenance cleaning of the fuel injectors and gasoline detergent additive.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
