2002 GMC Gm Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2002 GMC Gm, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

BAD DESIGN OF EMERGENCY BRAKE ON MY 2002 TAHOE SUV. HAD SELDOM USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND WAS GETTING THE STATE INSPECTION DONE AND WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION DUE TO FAILURE OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. AUTO REPAIR REPLACED THE DAMAGED EQUIPMENT.

NHTSA ID 10195308 · filed Jul 4, 2007

LATE MODEL (YEAR 2000+) FULL SIZE GM VEHICLES HAVE PARKING BRAKES THAT FAIL TO FUNCTION IN AS FEW AS 15,000 MILES. THE FAILURE OCCURS WHETHER THE DRIVER USES THE BRAKE OR NOT. I AM A TEXAS STATE VEHICLE INSPECTOR IN THE FORT WORTH AREA AND HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF THESE WITH A COMMON DESIGN DEFECT.*AK

I WAS DRIVING MY 2002 AM GENERAL H1 HUMMER AND WHEN TRYING TO STOP, MY H1 ACCELERATED MAKING IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP A 5 TON VEHICLE. I ALMOST ENDED UP IN A HEAD ON CRASH BUT PLACED GEAR IN NEUTRAL AND MY ENGINE TACH GAGE MAXED OUT AND AFTER 10 SECONDS LET GO. ACCORDING TO AM GENERAL THEY HAVE HAD A FEW INSTANCES SUCH AS MINE AND IT IS A FAULTY ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THIS WILL BE THE SECOND ACCELERATOR PEDAL BEING REPLACED. THE FIRST WAS IN MY 1999 H1. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE AN CAN CAUSE DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY. IRONICALLY I BROUGHT IT IN 2 DAYS EARLIER FOR UNEXPLAINED ACCELERATION ON THE FREEWAY. I THOUGHT IT WAS A CRUISE CONTROL ISSUE AND WINKEL HUMMER IN RENO, REPLACED MY INJECTOR PUMP ($2,400) AND THE PROBLEM WAS NOT FIXED. I HAVE ORDERED A AC DELCO ACCELERATOR PEDAL WITH TPS (THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR) TO TEMPORARILY FIX THE PROBLEM HOPEFULLY. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE. H1'S WEIGH 8800 POUNDS AND IF IT CANNOT STOP DEATH OR BODILY INJURY CAN OCCUR. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED SINCE THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. MY ATTORNEY JOEL BARBER (775) 323-6464 ADVISED ME TO CONTACT YOUR AGENCY. *TR

IT SEEMS IT SHOULD BE A RECALL SINCE IT IS IN THIS NUMBER OF VEHICLES. I HAVE REPORTED IT TO THE NSTB AND GOT A NOTE BACK THANK YOU FOR YOUR LETTER. *TR

TREAD SEPERATION ON MY BF GOODRICH 245/70/16 T/A TIRES THAT CAME WITH MY 2002 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER. ALL 4 TIRES HAVE CRACKS AROUND THE SIDEWALLS. SHOULD THE CRACKS GET DEEPER, I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE TREAD WILL SEPERATE FROM THE TIRES. THESE HAVE ABOUT HALF THE TREAD LIFE LET. UNFORTUNATELY, I AM TOLD THIS IS A PRO-RATED PROBLEM THAT SEEMS TO HAVE HAPPENED TO ONLY THESE 4 TIRES.
