Owner-reported complaints naming the driver-assistance system, filed with NHTSA
Data refreshed
Driver assistance reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

For over a year now multiple times while I'm driving. My vehicle's power steering will jerk/shake very abruptly, dash lights, radio, a/c & heater flicker on & off, service stabilitrak, trailer brakes etc, will pop up. then once stopped and shut off the engine the battery will act like it is dead and I will have no power to the vehicle at all. I have read the recall report & over 1 million SUV/Pickup GM vehicles (Chevy/Cadillac) manufactured through October 2015 are affected with the same issues. My 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 manufacture date on the vehicle is October 2015. I was told my VIN # was not included with the recall therefore they can't do anything to help. Even though my vehicle is experiencing exactly the same problems as the vehicles that were recalled and fixed with no out of pocket expense I am basically screwed. I also have a video of my steering wheel jerking back & forth, dash lights flickering & the engine stalling. (All in the same video)

Just purchased this used vehicle in December 2022 with high miles (202000) with a dealers extended warranty. Problem has happened twice in 2 weeks. While backing up slowly and turning my wheel the vehicle stalled and Service Stabilitrak came across the dash as it died. Then upon restarting it told me to roll drivers window down and up and the memory seat function cleared as did my clock. Like it had a battery replacement and reset to factory. Took into a GMC service shop where they found code P0700 and P0711. They were able to replicate my concern. Telling me to replace the transmission harnesses and that it is not covered under my extended warranty for powertrain. Going to cost me $1500 in repairs. After extensive research I see this is a common problem yet no recall has been issued for my 2016 GMC Sierra crew cab. Very frustrating!!

Transmission shifts hard and seemingly late and early (sometimes to the extent where it feels like someone is slamming into the vehicle). This has happened since purchase in 2019 ( when I told them about it them about it they tried to tell me it was normal and acted like I was a fool), continues to get worse especially in stop and go traffic at lower speeds, but does it at all different speeds.

The contact owns a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the steering wheel would jerk in the opposite direction of where the vehicle was driving. Their service stabili-trac warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with a negative battery cable fault. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000. The consumer stated the vehicle was repaired on May 5, 2022.

I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN JULY OF 2019 FROM A GMC DEALERSHIP IN DUNCANSVILLE PA. IN LATE NOVEMBER ON MY WAY TO WORK RANDOMLY MY SERVICE STABILI TRAK, ABS, ASSISTED STEERING, AND BRAKE LIGHT LIT UP ON MY DASH EVERY 30 SECONDS REPETITIVELY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP (3 HOURS). I WORK 4 HOURS FROM HOME FOR 2 WEEKS AT A TIME I SPEND VERY LITTLE TIME IN MY VEHICLE DURING THIS TIME. I SEEN THE LIGHTS COME UP RANDOMLY WHILE OUT OF TOWN ALSO. ONCE MY WORK WEEKS WERE OVER ON MY WAY HOME THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. I TOOK IT FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND RECALL LATE DECEMBER. THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE ANY LIGHTS NOR WERE THEY SHOWING ANY CODES. AS OF LAST MONTH THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE TO THE POINT WERE I AM COMPLETELY LOSING MY POWER STEERING SOMETIMES FOR DAYS AT A TIME. LAST WEEK I TOOK MY VEHICLE DOWN FOR ANOTHER RECALL SENT FROM GM SPECIFICALLY FOR MY VIN I WAS TOLD THERE WASN'T ANY ISSUES OR CODES. ALL THEY COULD FIND IS A COMMUNICATIONS ERROR AND THEY WOULD NEED TO KEEP IT FOR A FEW DAYS AND SENT ME ON MY WAY HOME UNTIL THEY HAD A LOANER VEHICLE AVAILABLE. ONE WEEK LATER AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO GET MY TRUCK IN I STILL HAVE A LIT UP DASH, NO POWER STEERING, AND NOT A CLUE WHEN IT'LL EVEN BE ABLE TO BE LOOKED AT SINCE I LEAVE FOR WORK IN 2 DAYS. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FROM WHAT I HAVE READ AND CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY IN WINTER/SNOW/ICY CONDITIONS. I NEED A VEHICLE THAT I CAN FEEL SAFE IN THAT I CAN TRAVEL WITHOUT WORRYING AROUND EVERY TURN IF MY POWER STEERING IS GOING TO SHUT OFF AND I'M GOING TO HAVE TO POWER A VEHICLE AROUND A TURN OR TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. I FEEL LIKE MY PROBLEM IS BEING BRUSHED UNDER THE RUG. ON MY WAY HOME THAT DAY JUST 2 MILES FROM MY HOUSE MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND I SLID OFF THE ROAD FORTUNATELY I LIVE IN THE COUNTRY AND NOTHING WAS IN THE FIELD I SLID INTO. I HAVE PHOTOS AND VIDEOS OF THE LIGHTS FLASHING OFF AND ON.

ON 02/12/2020, I WAS TURNING TURNING TO PARK IN A PARKING SPOT AT WORK WHEN THE RADIO AND OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS SHUT DOWN, AND THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. I TEMPORARILY LOSS CONTROL OF MY OWN STEERING WHEEL. THIS OCCURRED 3 TIMES WHILE TRYING TO PARK. IN ADDITION, A MESSAGE ABOUT STABILITRACK APPEARED. IT IS WELL KNOWN THAT GM HAS RECALLED OVER 1,700,000 VEHICLES WITH THIS SAME POWER STEERING ISSUE STATING THAT OWNERS WILL LOSE CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. SEE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V586. GM'S OWN NUMBER FOR THIS RECALL IS 18289. HOWEVER, GM HAS ONLY INCLUDED CERTAIN VEHICLES IN THIS RECALL, MAINLY 2014 AND 2015. MY 2016 GMC SIERRA 1500 IS CURRENTLY NOT INCLUDED IN GM'S RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE SAME POWER STEERING PROBLEM IS OCCURRING. ACCORDING TO A NOTICE PUBLISHED WITH THE NHTSC, THE TRUCKS MAY EXPERIENCE A TEMPORARY LOSS OF ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) ASSIST FOLLOWED BY A SUDDEN RETURN OF EPS ASSIST. THE ISSUE, GM SAYS, OCCURS TYPICALLY DURING LOW-SPEED TURNING MANEUVERS. IF EPS ASSIST IS LOST AND SUDDENLY RETURNED, THE DRIVER COULD LOSE TEMPORARY CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. GM SAYS IT FIRST BECAME AWARE OF THE ISSUE IN FEB. 2017 AFTER RECEIVING CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS RELATED TO LOSS OF EPS. TESTS CONDUCTED BETWEEN APRIL AND MAY FOUND THAT SOME OF THE VEHICLES CONTAINED ELECTRICAL ISSUES THAT COULD CAUSE LOSS OF EPS. THE CARMAKER WAS TO CONTACT AFFECTED OWNERS & DEALERS WILL PERFORM A REFLASH OF THE EPS MODULE SOFTWARE. GM STATED THAT NEWER VEHICLES CONTAINED RECALIBRATED SOFTWARE AND WILL NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE. GM IS INCORRECT IN IT ASSESSMENT SINCE I HAVE JUST EXPERIENCED THE SAME POWER STEERING ISSUE IN MY 2016 SIERRA, & NOW THE DEALER DOES NOT WANT TO REPAIR THE ISSUE SINCE THERE IS NO GM RECALL ON 2016S. THERE IS DEFINITELY A PROBLEM WITH POWER STEERING ON 2016S.

TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED FROM 4TH GEAR UP (3) TIMES WITHIN 91,000 MILES. WHEN GOING AT SPEEDS MORE THAN 50 MILES AN HOUR, THE TRANSMISSION WILL BREAK AND LOSE FORWARD MOTION CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE TRANSMISSION WAS "REBUILT" AT LAFONTAINE GMC OF HIGHLAND, MI (2) TIMES AND THEY ARE TELLING ME THEY ARE GOING TO "REBUILD" IT A 3RD TIME. JUST WANTED TO NOTE SAFETY ISSUE SO WHEN THIS HAPPENS IN THE FUTURE I WILL HAVE A LEGAL AVENUE.

I WAS WAITING ON THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC SO I COULD MAKE A LEFT TURN. I HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO MAKE MY LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC, AS I PROCEEDED TO MAKE MY TURN ALL IF A SUDDEN MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, STABILITY TRAC LIGHT CAME ON, MY POWER LOCKS LOCKED AND UNLOCKED INTERMITTENTLY AND TRUCK ENGINE DIED. I HAD TO RESTART ENGINE AND IT DID IT AGAIN AS I WAS MOVING ATTEMPTING TO FINISH MY TURN. THIS HAPPENS ON A REGULAR BASIS NOW ANYTIME I HAVE TO TURN STEERING WHEEL IT LOCKS UP AND DOES THIS. SOMETIMES IT DOES EVERYTHING I STATED ABOVE BUT ENGINE DOESN'T DIE. THIS IS DANGEROUS. A COUPLE TIMES WHEN IT DOES THIS MY TRUCK DOESN'T HAVE ANY POWER TO START BUT WAIT 30 SECONDS TO A MINUTE, POWER WILL RESTORE AND YOU CAN THEN START IT UP. IT ALMOST SOUNDS EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING THAT THE 2015 GMC 1500 ARE BEING RECALLED. THIS HAPPENS NOW ON A DAILY BASIS.

PERIODICALLY 3 TIMES A WEEK, WHILE DRIVING, THE STABILIZTRAK ILLUMINATES AND DRIVABILITY DECLINES, ENGINE CHECK LIGHT ILLUMS, THE GEAR REMAINS IN A LOW GEAR WITHOUT SHIFTING. TURN THE IGNITION OFF FOR A COUPLE SECONDS AND IT CLEARS AND THE ENGINE LIGHT GOES OUT AFTER 25-35 MILES. SOMETIME IT DOESN'T RESET AFTER 3 ATTEMPTS OF TURNING OFF AND ON THE IGNITION. THE CODES ARE P0700 A U0100 WITH OTHERS WHEN DEALERSHIP ANALYZED. THREE TIMES IT WAS IN THE GMC SHOP AND THREE TIMES GIVING BACK AND PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. I RECORDED ON VIDEO AND GAVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AS PROOF.
