2007 Honda CR-V Owner Complaints

My 2007 Honda CR-V was repaired under NHTSA Recall 23V-228 for corrosion in the rear frame at the trailing arm mount, a condition Honda's own filing says can allow the trailing arm to detach while driving. My vehicle received the support-brace remedy rather than a full structural repair. Since that July 18, 2023 repair, the vehicle has developed Right Rear (RR) tracking instability, whooshing and high-pitched whistling noises, tire bead damage, and toxic exhaust fumes entering the cabin. The component at issue is the rear frame at the trailing arm mount, along with the related RR suspension/tracking behavior and RR tire. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request and is currently located in Wilmington, Delaware. Because corrosion in this area can allow the trailing arm to detach while driving, and my vehicle now shows RR tracking instability, pulling, and a sheared RR tire bead along with toxic exhaust fumes in the cabin, I believe these conditions risk loss of vehicle control and expose occupants to hazardous fumes while driving. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent shop. Union Park Honda could not duplicate the noise I reported on October 30, 2023, and independent shops since December 2024 have performed repairs but have not confirmed a root cause for the tracking, noises, or fumes. No formal inspection has been performed by Honda's engineering staff, police, or an insurer. Mechanics at Union Park Honda and four independent shops (Penny Hill, Firestone, Harvey Road Automotive, and Mighty Muffler) have attempted repairs, but none has performed a structural or root-cause inspection. No warning lamps or dashboard messages appeared at any point. The first symptom I noticed was the whooshing noise, immediately after the July 18, 2023 recall repair.

I bought the 2007 Honda CRV in 2022. Approximately 1 month ago my keys were locked inside. 3 reputable locksmiths could not unlock any doors. My extra fob or extra key will not unlock any doors. The passenger door had been making a ticking then grinding noise when it locks itself. All 3 locksmiths said this a serious safety problem and the actuator is at fault. The only way to get in was to retrieve my set of keys out of the wedged door. I haven't received any recalls on actuators but there was a class action in 2015-2016 (which I was not the owner then) that stated ALL 2007, 2008 and a few 2009 Honda CRVs were to have the actuators replaced at Honda expense. I'm afraid that if my disabled son is inside and it locks itself, we won't be able to get him out. Please assist me in this matter. Complaint: Both rear doors and the front passenger door no longer lock or unlock electronically using the key fob or interior switch. The failure began gradually and worsened over time. I recently had the driver door replaced by A Honda dealer as part of the warranty but the passenger and back door were not part of the warranty and dealership has also confirmed the lock failures. This creates serious safety risks: •Doors randomly unlock while driving and while parked •Cannot reliably open doors in an emergency •At times, the vehicle must be left unlocked •I transport young children, making manual locking unsafe Additionally, the vehicle has a persistent engine oil leak that mechanics cannot permanently fix. Oil loss between changes risks engine damage, loss of power, or fire. I request NHTSA investigate these defects and consider a recall for the failing door locks and the engine oil leak.

There was a safety recall for the rear arm control and excessive rust, Honda said they fixed it back in 2018… out of no where my car lost control and caused me to crash, I brought the car back to Honda and the rear arm bracket broke off due to excessive rust however Honda states it was repaired and there is nothing they can do, they won’t even look at the vehicle.

I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction regarding the handling of the recall for my 2007 Honda CR-V due to frame corrosion. During the recall service, only a bracket was installed under the wheel well, addressing a single area despite extensive rust present throughout the frame and underbody. I believe the vehicle should have been considered for a buyback rather than a limited repair. Recently, my vehicle failed its safety inspection due to a rust hole in the frame, making it unsafe to drive and only suitable for scrap. When I contacted Honda for further assistance, I was informed that only recall-related issues would be addressed, and no additional support was offered. The presence of severe rust and a compromised frame poses significant safety risks, including: •Increased likelihood of structural failure in the event of a collision, which could result in serious injury or death. •Reduced effectiveness of critical safety components, such as seat belts and airbags, due to weakened mounting points. •Higher risk of suspension or wheel detachment while driving, potentially causing loss of vehicle control. I am deeply concerned about the safety implications and the inadequate resolution of the recall.

I received a safety recall letter in June and brought the car to a dealership for inspection. After the inspection, they said that they can't fix it, and the car is dangerous to drive. I contact American Honda, and after almost a month in back and forth with American Honda and the dealership, the car is again inspected, and the report was sent to Amercian Honda on July 29. Since then, I had been waiting for American Honda resolve the problem. We had contacted them every week and they response are always the same, no updates on the case, and someone is going to call me back, and this doesn't happen. They know the car is risk to drive, and we told them about many times in the calls that I don't have another car and don't have money to buy a car, so I need this to be resolved.

Front passenger door when unlocked, locks back by itself. This is not safe because it makes it hard to get out of the vehicle because when you think it’s unlocked and try to get out you’re locked in. I checked to see if there was a recall because I normally get recall notices about other issues. I found that there was indeed a recall but it expired in 2015 which in honesty is not fair to those that have had their vehicles for sometime and during that time period…and never received a recall notification.

There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed and determined that the subframe was completely rotted. The passenger car door unlocks for no reason. It used to automatically lock when I start driving , now it starts to open and will not remain locked while driving, or when I lock my car door when I park. When I use the key fob the car alarm goes off and the door is still unlocked. This car has had a recall on the airbags. The light comes on once in a while. It was fixed by the Honda Dealership but recently, once in a while , the light still comes on. It is concerning . The air pressure warning light will remain on even after I have had my tires checked.

On 07/21/2023, I took my car to the dealership for an evaluation related to a recall on the Rear Frame Brace. The inspection revealed that my car was unsafe to drive, and I was informed that I could not take it off the dealership premises. Since then, I have been trying to reach an agreeable solution with America Honda Motor- Honda Recall, but they have not responded. I have also tried to get assistance from the Attorney General of my state but to no avail. The local Honda dealership still has possession of my auto, and this issue remains unresolved as of 02/11/2024.

The contact owns a 2007 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the rear passenger's side of the vehicle collapsed inadvertently. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The contact noticed that the rear passenger's side wheel had detached and rotated 90 degrees into the wheel well. I am having door lock issues with all my locks on my car. It started with my front passenger and now both rear are also having issues. When I click the unlock button on the keyfob they unlock then lock again. Same with the unlock button on the drivers door. When I'm driving (accelerating), the drivers door will click as if it is trying to lock even though it already is.

The contact stated that while his wife was at a complete stop, the vehicle jerked upon acceleration with the Traction Control Malfunction warning light illuminated. The contact’s wife pulled over and discovered that the rear driver’s side tire was inverted inside the wheel well. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to a dealer where the contact was informed that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V228000 (Structure). Despite the recall, the vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer due to the part not being available. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. Ref: NHTSA Recall #23V-228 We are requesting that the recall be reopened and revised to add complaint regarding Smail Honda located 5043, RT 30, Greensburg, PA 15601 who damaged our car when doing the recall. The dealership damaged the vehicle when they did recall attachment of braces, to the point where it will no longer pass Required PA Safety Inspection. On 9/21/23 we took our car to Smail Honda Village in Greensburg for Honda Campaign: UE3 related to corrosion of the rear frame on our 2007 Honda CRV. According to the reason for the recall “Corrosion can form in the rear frame” and “the rear frame can deteriorate”. In the recall notice, we were told: “Your Honda dealer will inspect the rear frame for corrosion…. If the rear frame cannot be repaired, Honda may offer to repurchase the vehicle from you.” My husband was told that the corrosion was so bad in the rear of the vehicle that it will not pass inspection. If it cannot pass the next PA state inspection, then essentially, it should be considered unsafe to drive. This would appear to represent the “spirit” of the recall which is to get unsafe Honda cars off the road and save lives. Nevertheless, the dealership did not offer to repurchase the vehicle as they should have done but they continued to attach the brace to this severely rusted frame which they, themselves, have determined is so bad that it will not pass inspection. The dealership has failed to remedy the dangerous corrosion of the rear frame in this vehicle which is the basic intent of the recall, and we are extremely dissatisfied with the attempt to remedy this safety issue. We are requesting that Honda Repurchase this vehicle and indicated in recall notice.
