Owner-reported complaints naming the body or structure system, filed with NHTSA
Data refreshed
Body & structure reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

On 05/06/2026 the vehicle was in for service at the Honda dealership (The Automaster, 3328 Shelburne Rd. Shelburne VT 05482). The inspection report notes "Rust Holes forming above rear trailing arms, non reparable area, will not pass future state inspection, recommend customer contact Honda of America @ 1-800-999-1009". They also provided a picture of the problem. I took the car to another garage and was informed that YES, this was a real issue and that the garage owner just spoke with someone who had a 2018 CRV with the same problem. The Honda dealership sent me a Recommendation Letter that stated "***Rear trailing arms (soon), *** State Inspection.

Roseville Toyota sold me a car with a faulty hood latch. It’s a safety issue and they refuse to acknowledge that they failed pre-inspections and refuse to fix it. I have to take it to an expert in order to close the hood

There is an aluminum cover that is bolted under the engine (lower engine cover, Honda part 74112-TLA-A01). This cover must be removed in order to change the oil. Twice now the cover has fallen off the engine while driving at highway speeds, causing the driver to have to stop suddenly. The car is then not drivable until the cover is bolted back. This could very easy cause an accident and steering problems. It seems to be a poor design and there are many similar reports on the internet.

All warning light come on, anti-theft system activated and horn goes off randomly. Can’t stop the honking without disconnecting the battery. Sometimes you can’t turn the engine off at all. You have to keep trying about 20-30 times before it will stop. The headlights will turn on by themselves and the battery drains. Now- even with a new battery, the car won’t start at all. The BCM part 38809-TMM-A21 is on National Back-order because it’s the same part for the 2018 Honda CRV that IS on a National Recall. Why isn’t the 2017 also on recall for the same part problems

The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH with the Adaptive Cruise Control activated, the Collision Mitigation Braking System engaged while there was another vehicle nearby. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while there were no other vehicles around. The warning message "Caution Brakes" was illuminated. The contact disengaged Adaptive Cruise Control feature and continued driving. Additionally, the contact stated that the touch panel light was becoming dimmer while driving at night. The contact also stated that the vehicle failed to start occasionally. The contact was able to jumpstart the vehicle with assistance. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the battery was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred with the computer system engaging independently, while activating the alarm system simultaneously. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer Norm Reeves Honda Superstore Irvine (16 Auto Center Dr, Irvine, CA 92618) where it was diagnosed that the Body Control Module (BCM) needed to be replaced; however, the parts were not available as it was on a national back order. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000.

ON THE 4TH (AROUND 20K MILES) OIL CHANGE FROM DEALERSHIP I COMPLAINED ABOUT DRIVER SIDE SEAT CUSHION AND BRAKE PEDAL MAKING SQUEAKY NOISE. I WAS TOLD IT'S NORMAL IN NEW CAR DURING THE BREAKIN PROCESS AND EVENTUALLY IT'LL GO AWAY. NOW IT'S EVEN WORSE AT ABOVE 50K MILES AND THEY'RE ASKING FOR DIAGNOSTIC CHARGES. CAR ALSO HAS FUEL AND OIL MIXING ISSUE WHICH I BROUGHT IT UP ON MY RECENT VISIT TO HONDA DEALERSHIP AND I WAS TOLD THEY'LL NEED TO DRAIN THE OIL AND REFILL WITH NEW OIL AND FILTER TO DETERMINE THE ISSUE. WHILE THEY WERE TAKING OUT THEY SAID THERE WAS NO PRESENCE OF FUEL BUT THE SMELL OF FUEL IN ENGINE OIL IS NORMAL FOR THIS VEHICLE. THERE'S BEEN TIME WHERE VEHICLE WILL BE STUCK IN HIGH RPM WHEN ON HIGHWAY AND ACCELERATOR IS RELEASED DURING HIGH SPEED. AND EVENTUALLY IT'LL SHIFT THE GEAR AFTER 5-10 SECONDS AND BRING DOWN THE RPM. SMELL IS ALSO NOTICED DURING FIRST START IN MORNINGS SPECIALLY NOW SINCE IT'S WINTER.

LATER, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM ERRONEOUSLY ACTIVATED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ABRUPTLY STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FLOW HONDA OF BURLINGTON (2920 S. CHURCH ST, BURLINGTON, NC) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BATTERY WAS FAULTY AND THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM REQUIRED AN UPDATE. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED AND THE UPDATE WAS PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,135. AT EXACTLY TWO YEARS OLD, THE BATTERY DIED. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR A SOFTWARE UPDATE BUT OF COURSE, MY VEHICLE DIDN'T NEED UPDATE, IT NEEDED A NEW BATTERY DUE TO DEAD CELL THAT HAPPENED WITHIN SIX HOURS. THE TOP SIDES OF THE BODY HAS RIPPLES DOWN BOTH SIDES. WAS TOLD THIS IS USUALLY CAUSE BY ROOF RACK (I DON'T HAVE ROOF RACK) OR BY CAR WASH (MY CAR HAS NEVER BEEN THROUGH A CAR WASH. I WON'T EVEN LET DEALER WASH IT WHEN I'M THERE). THE CAR BRAKES HARD EVEN WHEN THERE IS NO OBSTRUCTION IN FRONT OF ME. THE CRUISE, LANE ASSIST, MITIGATION WILL ALL SHUT OFF AT VARIOUS TIMES SAYING RADAR IS OFF/BLOCKED. ON 10/08/19 WHILE DRIVING, THE LCD SCREEN STARTED BEEPING, FLASHING AND GOING BLACK. NOTHING WOULD WORK. CAR IS BECOMING DANGEROUS TO BE ON ROADWAY. FILED COMPLAINT WITH HONDA ON A COUPLE ISSUES. SORRY FOR MY LUCK, IT'S NOW OUT OF WARRANTY DUE TO MILEAGE.

THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR EMITS SQUEAKING NOISE WHEN PULLING ON THE DOOR PULL TO OPEN THE DOOR. UPON CLOSER EXAMINATION, I SAW THAT THE POST FROM THE DOOR PULL HANDLE RUBS AGAINST THE CUTOUT HOLE IN THE DOOR PANEL. THIS MEANS THE ASSEMBLY OF THE DOOR HANDLE WAS OFF, OR THE CUTOUT WAS LOCATED WRONG. THE DEALER LOOSENED THE DOOR HANDLE TO READJUST ITS POSITION, BUT IT STILL SQUEAKS SOMETIMES. I CAN SEE THAT THE POST IS SLIGHTLY ADJUSTED AWAY FROM THE CUTOUT, BUT IT NOT AS FAR AWAY AS ON THE OTHER DOOR HANDLES. I SUSPECT THAT THE CUTOUT WAS LOCATED WRONG, WHEN THE HOLE WAS CUT IN MANUFACTURING.

WHEN I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY (20 TO 30 MPH) ON A CITY STREET, I NOTICED NOISE. I WENT OUT OF THE CAR AND NOTICED THE SPLASH GUARD WAS ALMOST TOUCHING THE GROUND. LATER ON, I HAD SOMEONE REMOVE THE SPLASH GUARD, AND NOTICED SOME SCREWS WERE MISSING. THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY, SO I PAID THE DEALERSHIP TO INSTALL A NEW SPLASH GUARD. I CALLED HONDA.COM SUPPORT NUMBER, AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I AM PRETTY SURE MY CAR DID NOT HIT ANYTHING SINCE IT WAS A CLEAR STREET AND I WAS DRIVING SLOW. IT WAS NOT CLEAR TO ME WHY IT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. A SIDE NOTE: ON THAT SAME DAY, THE BATTERY ALSO DIED EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS JUST A LITTLE OVER ONE YEAR OLD. THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP DID REPLACE THE BATTERY FOR ME FOR FREE. IT WAS FRUSTRATING TO GET STUCK SOMEWHERE WITH TWO CAR ISSUES AT THE SAME TIME FOR A RELATIVELY NEW CAR.

COVER, ENGINE (LOWER) UNCLIPPED FROM THE FRONT AND BENT BACK DRAGGING UNDER MY CAR DRIVING 70MPH ON INTERSTATE. I WAS 1/3 OF THE WAY OF A 120 MILE TRIP. I PULLED OVER AFTER FEELING SOMETHING DRAGGING UNDER MY CAR. AT FIRST IT FELT LIKE A BLOWN TIRE. AFTER PULLING OVER I COULD SEE THE SHEET METAL DETACHED FROM THE FRONT (REAR BOLTS STILL HOLDING). I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE A GOOD SAMARITAN STOP AND PULL THE BOLTS HOLDING THE PART TO MY CAR WHICH ENABLED ME TO CONTINUE ON MY TRIP. WENT TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP THE FOLLOWING FRIDAY. DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT MUST HAVE BEEN RELATED TO MY LAST OIL CHANGE THREE MONTHS AGO. HONDA AMERICA HASN'T OPENED A CASE AFTER SEVERAL PHONE CALLS. A PART OF A CAR SHOULDN'T FALL OFF. THIS WAS VERY SCARY AND I AM UNSURE HOW I SAFELY CHANGED LANES AT SUCH A HIGH SPEED. I HAVEN'T REPLACED THE PART SINCE I DON'T WANT TO BE STRANDED AGAIN. I TRAVEL ON THIS INTERSTATE TRIP TWICE A WEEK FOR LAST THE 3 MONTHS. MY FRIEND WHO HAS THE SAME CAR BOUGHT AT THE SAME TIME JUST HAD THE PART DETACH FROM THE FRONT BUT IT DIDN'T PEEL BACK AND DRAG AS MINE DID. THIS OCCURRED ON A LONG ROAD TRIP. I WILL ENCOURAGE MY FRIEND TO REPORT HERE. I AM CONCERNED FOR OTHER'S SAFETY. I EXPECT BETTER FROM HONDA ENGINEERS.
