My wife’s 2017 Honda cr-v lost power while on the highway. Which could’ve been a safety issue had she not known what to do. We limped it to Honda dealership. They say it was a blown head gasket. The blown head gasket caused the turbo to fail. This is a known issue on the 2017-2022 Honda 1.5 turbocharged engine. Top all that off we already replaced the turbo 4 months prior to the head gasket going out. So that’s two turbos and a head gasket in a 2017 vehicle that has 150,000 mile on it. I attempted goodwill with Honda which was denied.
At 110644 miles had to have head gasket replaced June 2023. Then July 17 had to have head gasket replaced again at 182782 Very upsetting
I brought my 2017 Honda CRV (1.5L turbo engine) with approximately 83,000 miles into my independent mechanic on 6/12/26 to fix a crank oil seal after discovered at recent oil change by them and prior in April when I brought vehicle into Honda to replace extended warranty on A/C compressor shaft seal. When they started vehicle before repair white smoke filled the shop. Mechanic said it was head gasket. Brought to Honda, they diagnosed and agreed. There were no warning lights or issues leading up to this. My vehicle had inspection first week of April by same mechanic and I had also brought vehicle into Honda soon after to replace extended warranty on A/C compressor shaft seal. Honda completed head gasket and crank oil seal repair on 6/22/26 for a total cost of $6278.93
Over the past 6/7 months, the following: ALL warning lights on dashboard flashing whenever car in running, strong smell of gasoline detected in home garage, and 5/6 times during the past 4/5 weeks engine "rough" when starting cold accompanied by loss of power. The lack of effective warning notices and/or the sudden loss of power increases the risk of crash and injury. I understand that these are related to a known Manufacturer's defect. The dealer replaced the fuel injectors and provided some additional service. I understand that Honda has issued some "campaigns" and some vehicles have been granted extended warranties, etc. but I was told that this vehicle is not eligible. I would like to try to obtain reimbursement for the repairs since it appears to be related to a documented manufacturer's defect. I also understand that there has been a recall under this issue in Canada.

The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle went into LIMP Mode after a while. The contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle failed to exceed 40 MPH while driving. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the head gasket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case, but no additional assistance was provided. The manufacturer suggested that the contact call for assistance prior to repairing the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
For several months now, car has been misfiring, skipping and going into limp mode. Spark plugs replaced and issue went away for about 2 months. Issue has resurfaced and took it to Honda dealership where I purchased vehicle to run a diagnostic test. Informed to resolve the issue need fuel injectors replacement, spark plug replacements, coolant reservoir is empty and to top it off, need a head gasket kit.
The car misfires every now and then. For last two years (I bought it used two yers ago odometer=105k now 113k), it has been a repeated problem. A few times it lost all power and stopped completely. Once on highway. Once I had to get it towed. Another occasion it restarted after 15 minutes break as if nothing had gone wrong. This is very scary - I have reduced my driving and try to avoid highways as much as possible. It gives a code of P0302. It happens irrespective of hot or cold, speed or outside temperature. The mechanic repaired it - by changing injector coil, spark plugs, once even added injector cleaning fluid to see if the problem would go away. Plus top up the coolant. In the most recent mechanic trip - he tested for coolant leakage on head gasket and confirmed that is the problem. He also informed me that it is a widely known problem with this model (2017 Honda CRV 1.5L) although I wasn't aware of that when I bought it from a used car dealer, basically relying on Honda's reputation.
I’ve been informed that my vehicle needs a new head gasket at 89,000 miles. Upon research this is a very common issue with this year Honda CRV. It requires a $4500 repair, which for a Honda with less than 100,000 miles is unacceptable. I asked what preventative maintenance should I have done to prevent this and I was told there was absolutely nothing we could’ve done. We contacted Honda and after two weeks we were told that they were not going to provide any assistance.
Emission warning light along with LKAS, ACC, Brake system are coming on the DASH. No driveability issues. The dealership in Walnut Creek pull code and find P0304 missfire #4 CYCLINDE, test #1 and #2 FAIL. Recommending to replace all 4 injectors.
All my dashboard lights came on and it was driving sluggish and idling a little hard. I took it in for diagnostic and they said that it was a blown head gasket. They told me they only do one oil change and they do not look at the bottom of part of the engine as that’s another teardown. They had my vehicle for a week. I got it back on Friday. Didn’t drive it on Saturday. today is Sunday. I drove it less than 40 miles. All the lights came back on and it smells like antifreeze.
Our 2017 CRV had 91,000 miles on it. Over the course of a few months, occasionally we saw warning dashlights come on, and had sluggish engine performance. We took it for diagnostic testing at two Honda Dealerships. Both determined it needed a new head gasket and turbo charge unit, costing about $8-10K to repair, depending on what they saw when they disassembled it. Contacted American Honda for hardship/goodwill relief but was denied support. Upon research, we have found that the 2017 and 2018 Honda 1.5 turbo charge engines have experienced significant issues and has a flawed design that allows fluids to mix, causing this type of engine failure. We regularly maintained this vehicle with recommended oil changes and tire rotations.

During a 2 hour drive, my 2017 Honda CRV EXL had all lights pop up on the dash and we experienced a sudden loss of acceleration on the highway. After finally being able to pull over, we were left stranded due to what a Honda dealership later found to be an oil dilution defect that caused a catastrophic failure in the turbocharger. Me and my girlfriend were left stranded for hours two hours away from home. This was a manufacturing defect that put me and my girlfriends lives at risk, this issue occured suddenly when we were travelling at highway speeds. The sudden flash of all dash lights during the incident were distracting as well as the situation incredibly worrying and could have caused us to crash. Even though we were able to stop safely, the situation has still created a lasting mental effect on me, as I have to carry the burden and trauma of the event with no reimbursment from Honda. There were no signs that could have told us this was going to happen as I have taken great care of the car, as it is my first car that I bought, and it is completely unaccetpable to have this happen to me when the car is only at 77,000 miles. The dealership did a diagnosis and the repair bill from the dealership to fix the turbo and intercooler is $5,000, and it is completely unacceptable that this even happened. I have taken great care of the car and a catastrophic failure of the engine system left us stranded for hours where we could not get any help. This has taken a huge toll on my mental state, and the car is left sitting at the dealership due to the completely unreasonable price tag of repair for an issue that is a known manufacturing issue, we have not gotten any reimbursment for the repair. It is unreasoble and unaccetpable to put the cost of repair on the driver who had no way to avoid this life-threatening manufacturing defect.
On May 25th, 2026 multiple dashboard warning lights flashed simultaneously while I was driving indicating an immediate engine issue, all warning alerts showed up. Next day, the engine exhibited a structural shudder/shake. The vehicle has otherwise always been perfectly maintained and operated flawlessly, thus, I called the dealership/ they gave me an appointment for the next day, after their inspection, they said that they need to replace the head gasket, timing chain set, and fuel injectors simultaneously; i learnt the imminent safety hazard i was exposed to! Operating a vehicle with an active internal fluid leak and compromised cylinder sealing creates an unpredictable driving hazard, putting occupants at risk of being stranded or rear-ended due to sudden engine failure. This proves that this is a systemic thermal defect affecting the structural integrity of the 1.5L turbo powertrain. The dealership stated the vehicle requires a top-end engine rebuild, specifically: a head gasket, spark plugs, fuel injectors, and a timing chain set. This is unacceptable given that my car is only 58.8K miles. I purchased the car brand new and always take good care, this issue is putting tens of thousands of dollars at financial risk! Now, on top of that, they want me to pay around $ 6,000 thousand dollars for a well-documented 1.5L engineering defect. This will destroy my trust in the brand and guarantee I will never buy a Honda again. This should be a safety recall, and why must I pay for their manufacture's issue? Is not fair.
The vehicle has accumulated 121,000 miles and has undergone all necessary services at the Honda dealership where it was originally purchased. The vehicle was driven under normal operating conditions by original owner. Now has a broken head gasket that a local Honda dealer wanted nearly 7k for the repairs. How does this happen and why? Since other owners are having the same issue, this should have been dealt with previously. Now I am without my car for the better part of a week. Please fix this!
All brake systems warning lamps illuminated while driving on the highway, the vehicle was pulled off the road and shut off, brakes were visually inspected and all fluid levels were examined and everything was intact. Vehicle was driven again after a breif time and everything was fine. A few weeks later all warning lamps were displayed, the vehicle was brought to a Honda dealership the following morning and a cracked fuel pump was diagnosed and the technician believed that there was no coolant in the vehicle and that was filled. The technicians suggested a scope of the engine to rule out a leaking head gasket but I could not afford it and monitored my coolant levels, had a pressure test done at a trusted mechanic and everything was fine for approx 3 months. Absolutely no coolant was observed on my driveway, the coolant level remained optimal on visual inspection. The vehicle started to drive roughly and I suspected new spark plugs were needed, those were installed at the dealership. The issue was not resolved and I returned w/in 1 month and was told that 3/4 cylinders were blown in addition to the head gasket. The vehicle has 106k miles and has received all maintenance as described. The cost to repair is over $8,000. I believe this is a failure on Honda as this is a very well documented issue with this specific vehicle.

Cylinder 2 and 4 misfire, that will cause all the sensor lights to come on and the vehicle will stall out. Doesn't matter if driving 15 mph or 55 mph, it will just stall.
We bought a 2017 crv rand new. with 1.5 engine and turbo, ALL WARNING LIGHTS ARE ON .Obd keeps on giving ing medifferent codes and multiple..I have watch car repairs in YOUTUBE and there's a lot of the same vehicle as mine with the same problem.

The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed with a fractured A/C discharge hose and refrigerant leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer on two occasions for the same issue. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 82,465.
5th generation (2017-2022) Honda CRV displaying ALL driver assistance system errors (stability control, cruise control, emergency anti-collision etc), check engine light, tire pressure monitor malfunction, parking brake, and some other lights. *OBDII scan reads back P0303* Battery was replaced in 2025, and has never tested at low voltage. Recently tested battery 04/26/2026 at 14.51V (with engine running). Spark plugs replaced 04/26/2026 with OEM NGK plugs with OE Gap 0.030". Drove car for 10 minutes and lights didn't go away. Upon researching, this appears to be a "replace all fuel injectors" job. Which also appears to be a fairly COMMON issue in these CRVs. My concern is that the misfire is disabling all driver safety systems and forcing the car into limp mode, and seems to be manufacturer error/negligence in terms of part reliability/quality. These parts are also on a 6-9 month BACK ORDER because of how common the issue is. Honda released "Service Bulletin 19-032" as a means to make dealers aware of the issue but I find this dishonest to the customers and Honda owners who purchase the vehicles on the promise of reliability. Please look into this issue, as it seems to happen just outside of warranty on these cars. Honda scarcely giving out goodwill refunds/assistance for THEIR factory-issue.
My valve cover gasket started leaking enough to notice on the dipstick. Was losing about 3/4 of a quart in an oil change interval. After some research I’ve seen that this is a very common issue with the 2017 Crv LX 2.4l
System/Component Involved: Fuel System / Fuel Injectors / High-Pressure Fuel Joint Pipe Description of Incident and Safety Risk: My 2017 Honda CR-V (1.5T engine) experienced a fuel system failure evidenced by DTC P0172 and a failed AF cylinder test, confirmed by an authorized Honda dealer. This failure leads to engine hesitation and power loss, creating a safety hazard during operation. More critically, during the repair (Case #16244235), the dealer and manufacturer refused to replace the High-Pressure Fuel Joint Pipe. According to Honda’s official Service Manual and TSBs for the Earth Dreams 1.5T engine, this pipe is a mandatory, one-time-use component that must be replaced whenever fuel injectors are serviced. Reusing this component violates Honda’s own safety protocols and poses a severe fire risk due to potential fuel leakage under high pressure ($20\text{ MPa}$+). Safety Risk to Others: Reinstalling a non-reusable high-pressure fuel line creates a high probability of fuel spraying onto hot engine components, leading to an under-hood fire while driving. This endangers the occupants and others on the road. Reproduction and Inspection: The injector failure was confirmed by [Insert Dealer Name] in Houston, TX. The subsequent safety violation (failure to replace the mandatory fuel joint pipe) is documented on my repair invoice dated April 2026. The vehicle and the old part (if still on the car) are available for inspection. Symptoms and Warning Lamps: The Check Engine Light (DTC P0172) appeared shortly before the failure, accompanied by a strong gasoline odor and engine stalling symptoms.
On March 28, 2026, the check engine light illuminated on my 2017 Honda CR-V EX (VIN [XXX] ) at 59,057 miles. I pulled diagnostic trouble codes with a consumer OBD-II reader and recorded P0301, P0302, and P0303. On March 30, 2026, I contacted American Honda Customer Service to request goodwill repair assistance. I was told to obtain an authorized dealer diagnostic and resubmit. I did so. On March 31, 2026, I had Goudy Honda perform an authorized diagnostic (repair order #315466. Goudy confirmed the stored DTCs were P0300 (random misfire detected), P0301 (cylinder 1 misfire detected), and P0302 (cylinder 2 misfire detected). The dealer recommended replacement of all four fuel injectors at a quoted cost of $1,961.17 plus tax, and stated the injectors were out of factory, powertrain, and emission warranties. This DTC set (P0300–P0304 and P0172) is the exact set addressed by American Honda Motor Co.'s own Service Bulletin 18-124 and Service Bulletin 19-037. On April 10, 2026, Honda Corporate denied assistance on the ground that the vehicle is "out of warranty." On April 20, 2026, a Honda Corporate representative named Desiree called me to say that American Honda will not document in writing the reasoning for the denial and will send only a generic template. This matches the pattern of consumer complaints described in Bissell v. American Honda Motor Co which catalogs hundreds of similar ODI complaints and alleges that American Honda has known of, and concealed, a defect in its 1.5L i-VTEC turbocharged engine since at least 2016. Safety concern: misfire events at freeway speed produce sudden loss of power, limp-mode activation, and the risk of unexpected deceleration in traffic. The class complaint documents multiple incidents of sudden stalls and engine failures in comparable vehicles, including on highways. I am filing this complaint to ensure ODI has a record of this incident and to support any existing or future investigation of this engine.
