2024 Honda CR-V Problems
Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component
Data refreshed
What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2024 Honda CR-V, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
Felt like the gas petal got stuck and caused a crash all air bags depoyed no forward collision warning or breaking activated
The steering wheel vibrates at the exact moment the power steering warning light turns on while driving. We just bought the car from a dealership.
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
Felt like the gas petal got stuck and caused a crash all air bags depoyed no forward collision warning or breaking activated
On August 20, 2026 at approximately 3:45 pm the vehicle slammed on it's brakes unexpectedly with the ACC active. The ACC was set to 45mph as per the speed limit and was traveling at that speed until the brakes suddenly engaged and abruptly reduced the speed to 20mph. It was sunny, 91 degrees there were no cars, obstructions or shadows and the vehicle had been washed and clean 2 days before.
Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2024 Honda CR-V. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V744000 (Steering), and the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the recall repair was completed; however, the failure occurred while driving. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and turning, the steering wheel made abnormal sounds, was sticking, and failed to return to center. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the contact was informed that a diagnostic fee was required, and the contact was asked to sign a document. The contact declined to pay the fee or sign the document. Additionally, the contact stated that the windshield wipers were malfunctioning, intermittently moving past the windshield trim and failing to touch the glass while operational. The dealer was notified of the windshield wiper failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Wiper system malfunctions by allowing driver side wiper to intermittently reach varied end positions, sometimes striking the A-pillar. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request (has been inspected by dealer already). How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? While driving in heavy rain, wiper erratically slamming into A-pillar is distracting and has caused me to try to adjust wiper speed and settings to prevent wiper arm from potentially breaking, which could be dangerous in certain higher speed conditions in heavy rain/low visibility. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, dealer was able to observe/reproduce the highly variable end position of the drivers side wiper. Dealer notes wiper shows up to 6 inch variance in where it stops. They could also see by the wiper marks on the windshield the variation in the end position. However, they compared the wiper function to another CRV and said it seems normal and refused warranty repair because the wiper was not broken or misadjusted at this time. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lamps or messages. Symptom is recurring since purchase of the vehicle. However, the wiper only demonstrates the ability to strike the A-pillar during heavier rain and use of wipers for longer periods (which has not happened frequently during time I've owned/driven vehicle).
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
Sudden unexpected acceleration while pulling into a parking spot.
I own a 2024 Honda CR-V EX-L with approximately 59,628 miles. While driving the vehicle, multiple warning lights began flashing on the dashboard. At the same time, the vehicle became difficult to drive and did not feel as though it was operating normally. I was concerned for my safety because the problem occurred while the vehicle was being driven. The vehicle was taken to two different authorized Honda dealership for diagnosis. I was informed that the fuel injectors had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealership quoted approximately $2,500 for the repair and told me that the fuel-injector failure was considered normal “wear and tear.” I am concerned that fuel injectors would fail on a 2024 Honda CR-V with only approximately 59,628 miles. I am particularly concerned because the failure was accompanied by multiple dashboard warning lights and made the vehicle difficult to drive. I believe this issue should be investigated as a potential safety defect because a fuel-injector failure that affects the vehicle's drivability could create a dangerous situation while the vehicle is being operated. I have contacted American Honda Motor Co. regarding the issue and requested that Honda review the fuel-injector failure for applicable warranty, emissions-warranty, service campaign, or goodwill coverage.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
A county wide emergency alert broadcast a very loud alert received by my 2024 CRv's infotainment system. This caused a spike in the car's electrical power. This confused the Idle Stop System. This caused my car to stall in the middle of a left turn onto a heavily trafficked road ([XXX] in [XXX].) I was very lucky that the other cars in the intersection were able to stop, so ther was no collision in this particular case. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
2024 Honda CRV. Battery went dead. Air conditioner stopped working. Honda dealership said the compressor is bad. Part is covered by warranty but must use a Honda part. Honda said part is not available nationwide. I live in Florida and temperatures exceeding 90 degrees. No estimated time for delivery.
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
At 112,000 miles, the engine in my 2024 Honda CR-V Sport Hybrid (2.0L Atkinson-cycle engine) suffered a catastrophic head gasket failure, causing severe coolant intrusion into the cylinders. All scheduled maintenance intervals in the owner's manual were followed and documented. The dealer and corporate (Case #16444920) have refused assistance. This is a widely documented mechanical defect where constant thermal cycling (the gas engine repeatedly turning on and off during hybrid operation) stretches the factory head bolts and destroys the gasket seal. This defect can lead to unexpected, total engine failure while driving at highway speeds, posing a severe safety risk to the occupants.
While operating my 2024 Honda CRV Sport - L Hybrid, the vehicle experienced a sudden and catastrophic head gasket failure at 108K - miles. This resulted in an immediate, unexpected loss of engine power. The dashboard engine light came on "Emissions system problem. Power may be reduced. See your dealer. This sudden loss of propulsion created an immediate safety hazard, placing myself and other driver at risk of a rear-end collision. The vehicle was towed off the freeway over 45-miles to a certified Honda dealership where a blown head gasket was confirmed. Despite maintaining the vehicle perfectly according to Honda's schedule, this represents a premature mechanical engine defect that presents a severe road way safety risk.
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
On August 20, 2026 at approximately 3:45 pm the vehicle slammed on it's brakes unexpectedly with the ACC active. The ACC was set to 45mph as per the speed limit and was traveling at that speed until the brakes suddenly engaged and abruptly reduced the speed to 20mph. It was sunny, 91 degrees there were no cars, obstructions or shadows and the vehicle had been washed and clean 2 days before.
Car accelerated unexpectedly when braking at a parking spot. Car accelerated over the curb and hit another car.
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2024 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH on the highway, the vehicle lost automotive power. The vehicle failed to properly accelerate but remained running. The vehicle was restarted and returned to normal operation. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be inspected; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure or determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V588000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,000.
my 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid regarding the vehicle's stability when shifted into "Park." Upon selecting "Park" and releasing the brake pedal, the vehicle exhibits an excessive rocking motion, surging forward and backward approximately four times before coming to a rest. This is not the standard "settling" common in automatic transmissions; it is a repeated oscillatory movement that suggests a failure in the parking engagement or a lack of coordination with the brake system. This creates a safety hazard, as the vehicle does not feel securely anchored, increasing the risk of a roll-away or injury to passengers exiting the vehicle.
Body & structure
Reports naming the vehicle structure, frame, body panels, doors, hood and trim.
From owner reports, verbatim
On 17 July 2026, I was attempting to park in a handicap parking place at May Washington Hospital Center. The outdoor parking lot is to the right of the hospital entrance and consists of several terraced rows with each terrace a few feet below the one above it. I was halfway into the parking space with my foot on the brake when the car (2024 CRV Hybrid Touring) suddenly accelerated. I pushed the brake pedal but it had no effect. There were no warnings from the safety systems. The front driver side hit a light pole which was the only thing that stopped me from going over the curb completely and dropping down onto the car below. The low speed crash still caused a total loss.
I am reporting multiple factory defects on my 2024 Honda CR-V, led by a severe, confirmed steering safety defect commonly known as 'sticky steering' where the steering wheel sticks/notches while driving and requires excessive force to correct, causing dangerous lane swerving. The authorized Honda dealership confirmed the steering gearbox has failed and requires replacement but the necessary parts are backordered indefinitely, forcing me to leave the unsafe vehicle at the dealership. Furthermore, the vehicle suffers from two additional major unresolved warranty issues recorded under the same Repair Order: a defective door weather stripping seal that has peeled off and detached from the door frame, compromising cabin weather sealing, and a strong, musty mold odor emitted from the AC system on low fan speeds that poses an air quality and health concern for occupants. Due to this unaddressed steering safety hazard, additional factory defects, and backordered parts, the vehicle remains out of service at the dealership (visited on 11 July, noticed that it's unsafe driving and returned the vehicle to service on 16 Jul) and no replacement car has been provided.
Exterior lighting
Reports naming headlights, tail lights, turn signals and other exterior lighting.
From owner reports, verbatim
The headlights are reflective instead of projector headlights. When driving at night you can’t fully see the road ahead. I was turning and almost hit a pedestrian.

Other / unspecified
Reports whose component NHTSA recorded as unknown, or that do not map to one of the categories above.
From owner reports, verbatim
Steering feels sticky/jerky when turning left. Front-left tire outer edge is severely worn down, while other tires are normal. Honda recall 24V744 for steering gearbox was completed, but the problem persists. I suspect the steering rack is defective, causing misalignment and abnormal tire wear. This affects vehicle control and safety.
The foam padding on the seat has detached from the base and has split into two separate pieces. Each time I place my daughter in the car seat, the padding shifts and moves, causing her to sit unevenly and no longer securely on the seat. This issue puts my child at a safety risk. The foam padding is supposed to remain secured and absorb energy in the event of an accident. Because it is separating and moving out of place, it cannot function as intended, which is extremely concerning for a product designed for protection. We have only been using this car seat for roughly three months, and it was purchased brand new. The car seat has not been inspected by anyone yet, but it is available for inspection if needed. I have also reached out to the manufacturer, and they informed me that they will not take any action to resolve the issue.
Suspension
Reports naming suspension components — springs, struts, shocks, control arms and related hardware.

I placed a bid on a vehicle at the co-part location in [XXX] . I reviewed the damage etc. and found it to be an acceptable risk. It was advertised that the car was in an accident with the passenger side and front grill damage. here was allegedly no damage to the motor and most importantly the airbags had not deployed. It was being sold with a salvaged title. Knowing these issues, I purchased the vehicle, had it towed to Miami and began the repairs. I purchased all genuine Honda parts from the dealer and still I could not have all of the lights reset. Upon taking it to another dealership, I learned that my rear seatbelts needed to be replaced, as well as all of the airbags as they had been cut out of the vehicle and the areas where they were located have been closed using drywall screws, some of which are still there. The described condition of the vehicle directly influenced my decision to purchase this vehicle. The lack of airbags could not be discovered from an inspection. I spent over $27,000 to purchase and repair this car as I believed that it was a newer car with much longevity. I was misled by the offer from Copart, and the actions of this company amount to deceptive business practices and possibly even fraud in the inducement. The description of the vehicle and its condition, specifically that the airbags were not deployed, led me to believe that the car was as described. Copart either knew or should have known based on the information provided from the lien holder/insurance that either the airbags had all deployed, and those would have been shown in the photos or that they were still in the car and somehow went "missing" while in the custody of copart. Copart knew this and yet they continued to advertise the airbags as intact. Copart knew that the condition of the car was worse than advertised and that the "as is" terms do not shield copart from the liability of this misrepresentation as this was apparently intentional or reckless. I was driving my crv and a deer was in the road. I hit the deer going 40mph. It blew out the whole front of my car, my sensors, headlights, both fenders and my hood are dented. No airbags deployed or any sensors alerted me of the object or leaving the roadway. Also when I hit the deer, I lost all steering on that moment. I had to turn off my car and then back on to get my steering to release.

After seeing the IIHS report on this 2024 Honda CRV rear seat safety issue shown in the crash test where the rear seat is deforming during offset crash I wanted to see if the NHTSA was going to investigate this issue further and request that Honda address this obvious safety issue. It would seem the rear seat is not constructed well or maybe the seat bracket is not strong enough for a good crash result and needs to be recalled. Please look into this matter please. Thank you. https://www.iihs.org/ratings/vehicle/honda/cr-v/2024?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19779867573&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI97z8zPbJkAMV3yNECB0eOQIoEAAYASAAEgJ99PD_BwE
