Owner-reported complaints naming the steering system, filed with NHTSA
Data refreshed
Steering reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

When I bought the car, I noticed that it was drifting and I was having to have steer harder to keep it in the lane and I'm assuming it's contributed to the steering box or the gearbox, where there was a recall and nobody informed me about that and I would like to get that fixed as soon as possible but Clark not Honda in Pharr Texas keeps on telling me that they don't have appointments and that they're giving me the runaround. That's very dangerous as I have children in my car all the time. Thank you

I am reporting multiple factory defects on my 2024 Honda CR-V, led by a severe, confirmed steering safety defect commonly known as 'sticky steering' where the steering wheel sticks/notches while driving and requires excessive force to correct, causing dangerous lane swerving. The authorized Honda dealership confirmed the steering gearbox has failed and requires replacement but the necessary parts are backordered indefinitely, forcing me to leave the unsafe vehicle at the dealership. Furthermore, the vehicle suffers from two additional major unresolved warranty issues recorded under the same Repair Order: a defective door weather stripping seal that has peeled off and detached from the door frame, compromising cabin weather sealing, and a strong, musty mold odor emitted from the AC system on low fan speeds that poses an air quality and health concern for occupants. Due to this unaddressed steering safety hazard, additional factory defects, and backordered parts, the vehicle remains out of service at the dealership (visited on 11 July, noticed that it's unsafe driving and returned the vehicle to service on 16 Jul) and no replacement car has been provided.

Driving a Honda 2024 crv hybrid ,I was pulling into a front row parking spot and braking and as the car just about was going to stop it surged forward turning in the direction I had just pulled in from and accelerated instead of continuing to brake . I kept my foot on the brake hoping it was stopping , but continued to accelerate running over a sign, then a light post and then through the plate glass frame of the building . Finally coming to rest as it fully entered the building . The vehicle then emitted some smoke from underneath and the building was evacuated. Fortunately no one was in the room at the time the car came through. No injuries thank goodness . No warning signals or any assistive braking was in play . Just my foot on the brake from the time I entered the parking spot . The vehicle was towed to a Honda collision shop where it will have a damage estimate done and then inspected by the car manufacturer. No analysis has been performed at this time .

Honda has made it extremely easy for thieves to steal the front radar sensor on all 2024 CR-V models. Mine was recently stolen, and there is currently no approved protection or deterrent offered by Honda to prevent this. Even after replacing it, the risk of it being stolen again remains very high. As a result, losing this sensor completely disables key Honda Sensing safety features, making the vehicle less safe to drive. On top of that, the replacement cost ranges from $1,500 to $3,000, despite the owner having no fault in the incident. The theft itself can be done in under two minutes. Overall, this design leaves the vehicle highly vulnerable, and it feels like Honda has not taken adequate steps to protect customers, while still leaving them responsible for costly repairs.

My 2024 Honda CRV was part of the recall for potential steering gearbox issues. Recall repair took place on 4/2/2025. Steering problem has persisted ("sticky steering") and when I had the steering checked today (5/6/2026) during a regular maintenance appointment, I was notified entire steering gearbox assembly should be replaced. Upon further research I discovered this is an ongoing issue 2023-2024 Honda models due to improperly assembled gearbox components. The recall repair included a new spring and additional grease to the worm gear. This was clearly insufficient and the recall should include complete replacement of the steering gearbox assembly with a properly manufactured unit. I have included via upload copies of the recall repair and diagnosis of the problem and associated cost from today's regular maintenance.

I was driving my crv and a deer was in the road. I hit the deer going 40mph. It blew out the whole front of my car, my sensors, headlights, both fenders and my hood are dented. No airbags deployed or any sensors alerted me of the object or leaving the roadway. Also when I hit the deer, I lost all steering on that moment. I had to turn off my car and then back on to get my steering to release.

Subject: Safety Recall Concern - VIN: [XXX] - Location: Ukraine Message: "I am writing to report a safety concern regarding my 2024 Honda CR-V (VIN: [XXX] ), which was originally manufactured for the U.S. market and is currently located in Ukraine. According to the official Honda MyGarage portal, my vehicle has two active and unremedied safety recalls: NHTSA Recall 24V-763 (Manufacturer Code: PJW) - High-Pressure Fuel Pump Leak. NHTSA Recall 24V-744 (Manufacturer Code: SMM) - Steering Gearbox (EPS) Friction issue. Given the serious nature of these defects—specifically the risk of fuel leaks/fire and the potential loss of steering control—I am concerned about the safety of operating this vehicle. As the car is now in Ukraine, I would like to request assistance in ensuring that the necessary improved parts (the high-pressure fuel pump and the steering gearbox components) are made available to an authorized Honda dealer in Ukraine to perform these critical safety repairs. I look forward to your guidance on how to proceed with these safety remedies internationally. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Malfunction of the Honda CRV's Rear upper control arms. Yes it will be available to inspect until the 13th of October. Safety risk is the fact there is no more adjustment on the factory installed rear upper control arms. When on the rack and they align the vehicle, they only want a .5 degree when being done. The factory installed rear upper control arms makes the camber maxed out at 1.25 degrees to the negative. This causes severe wearing of the tires if they are not watched closely and rotated frequently. Yes. The vehicle has been inspected by a certified shop and the dealership. Yes there was wear on the tires that made me request a four point inspection at the dealership. They did not preform an alignment. Said it was the lack of quality tires installed at the factory that made them wear so badly. This issue is not covered by manufacturing/ extended warranty available. Honda's response "more aggressive tire rotation" to prevent the problem. That is unacceptable. Especially when it is being said right off the alignment rack: "we only want to see a .5 degree for the toe and camber. This Honda is maxed out and will not move away from that 1.25 degree mark." There is such a thing as adjustable upper control arms to prevent the premature wear of tires.

improperly produced steering gearbox worm wheel, the wheel can swell during use, reducing the grease film thickness between the worm wheel and worm gear. In addition, the worm gear spring preload was set improperly high, increasing the sliding force between the components. As a result of the reduced grease film thickness and increased sliding force, friction between the worm wheel and worm gear increases.

Our vehicle is subject to a safety recall due to an improperly manufactured electronic power steering gearbox worm wheel and improperly set worm gear spring, etc. The manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for our vehicle in a timely manner. We contacted Schaumburg Honda on November 25,2024, to schedule the repair. We were told that parts are not available, and we would be placed on a waiting list for service. Schaumburg Honda has not contacted us since then, a period of well over sixty days.
