Owner-reported complaints naming the airbag system, filed with NHTSA
Data refreshed
Airbags reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

NHTSA Campaign 26V227000. My vehicle VIN: [XXX] Vehicle modified by Vantage Mobility International (VMI) into a Mobility Van. Van submitted to dealer 7/16/2026. Dealer claims they cannot perform work until factory clearance obtained. I cannot get information on when repair can be completed. VMI engineer Andrew Socha (602) 304 3294 informed me on 7/20/2026 there was nothing in the VMI modification that would interfere with this safety upgrade I called American Honda Motor Co, Inc Headquarters in Torrance, CA (800 999 1009) pn 7/22/2026 where safety recall department employee Antonio (would not give last name) commiserated with my situation but had no authority to ameliorate the situation I can't get a straight answer from American Honda Motor Co. Inc. and when or whether this repair is done. The 30 day window for this repair is closing in 5 days. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My SRS light went on without being in an accident. Around the same time I noticed that there was a recall reported (NHTSA Recall Number 26V-227) which states that the vehicle may deploy airbags without cause by going over a pothole etc. I took my vehicle in to the Honda dealership and they confirmed that my SRS ECU needs to be replaced bc it detected an airbag deployment but since it already deployed they will not replace it under the recall. However, the recall states that they need to update the SRS ECU to prevent this exact scenario from happening without proper cause and if it already happened the SRS ECU will need to be replaced. The worst part is, that they cleared the recall through the database for my vehicle but did not actually fix any issues and the SRS system is still not functioning. I already made a complaint with Honda corporation over two months ago but so far they have not provided a resolution.

2020 Honda Odyssey EX-L, 49k miles, no prior collisions. 1. Faulty system: SRS airbag module, defective factory aluminum clip (official Honda recall defect). EDR data verified this component failure by dealer technicians. 2. Safety risk: Driver airbag spontaneously deployed at 41MPH with zero impact. Seven occupants suffered soft tissue injuries and PTSD; sudden deployment created severe risk of secondary crash. 3. Dealer confirmation: Bay Ridge Honda (Brooklyn NY) diagnosed and confirmed the airbag clip defect via EDR readout and physical teardown, filed service records for this issue. 4. Inspectors reviewed vehicle: Honda dealer techs, EDR forensic specialists, and GEICO adjuster all inspected the car and confirmed no pre-crash damage. 5. Pre-fault warnings: No SRS warning lights, error codes or abnormal electrical symptoms appeared before the airbag deployed unexpectedly.

While traveling from Florida to our home in Pennsylvania in December 2022, we were on [XXX] and after going over a pothole, the side curtain airbag, and the driver seat side airbag inadvertently deployed. It was very traumatic and we are fortunate that we were able to pull off the side of the highway without getting hit by vehicles., The repair, which totaled over$16,000 was done by GERBER COLLISION AND GLASS Easton, PA. we personally are trying to recoup our out of pocket expenses of $781.08 from HONDA. And now, a month ago, May 2026,(almost 4 years after our incident) we received a SAFETY RECALL notification from explaining the exact issue we had.NHTSA Recall number26V227. we can provide photos and documentation, invoices, out of pocket expenses, etc if necessary but we have no idea how to include them on this form. The rear passenger side tire hit a pothole and it caused all of the airbags to deploy on April 6, 2026. The impact should not have set the airbags off. This has caused a severe rash/burn on my son's face and neck. The vehicle is now being totaled by my insurance company and forcing me to have to purchase a new vehicle and my insurance rates to go up. Three days later, April 9, 2026, a safety recall on the over-sensitive airbags was issued for this Odyssey. There were no other warnings leading up to this. Insurance has inspected the vehicle and deemed it a total loss.

Side airbags deployed while driving down road at about 35 mph hitting a minor bump in road. Air bags deployment while the car is in motion during safe driving conditions is a distraction to the driver and harms the passengers who are in the vehicle who if the airbags did not deploy would have remained safe since no collision was experienced. Took vehicle to Honda dealership- who stated airbags worked as intended and we needed to file a collision claim with insurance- despite no collision taking place and no other damage to the car i.e. no bent rim or flat tire/tire damage. Just saw article stating our scenario was not unique to our make/model of van.

I am submitting this complaint regarding a faulty Multi-Model Seat Weight Sensor (SWS) in my 2020 Honda Odyssey. I understand that NHTSA Recall 24V-064 covers this issue for certain vehicles; however, my VIN is not included, even though my vehicle is exhibiting the same malfunction described in the recall notice. Multiple independent mechanics and certified airbag technicians have inspected my vehicle and confirmed that the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) circuit is open, indicating that the front passenger airbag will not deploy in the event of a collision. This represents a serious safety hazard consistent with the defect outlined in the official recall documentation (NHTSA Recall 24V-064 Report: [XXX] ) The warning light for this malfunction was present when I purchased the vehicle in August 2025. While driving at approximately 12 mph on slightly snowy roads, my vehicle slipped and made a light impact with the sidewalk curb. Despite the minor nature of the collision, the entire left-side curtain airbag and seat airbag deployed with full force, as if a severe accident had occurred. This deployment was unexpected and excessive given the low-speed impact. I have found multiple online reports of similar incidents involving premature or overly sensitive airbag deployment in Honda vehicles, which raises concerns about a potential safety defect. Concern: I believe this may indicate a flaw in the airbag deployment system or sensor calibration. This poses a safety risk and could result in unnecessary injuries or repair costs

Crash reported
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving during a snow day at approximately 15 MPH, the vehicle lost traction and crashed into a curb on the front driver's side where it came to a stop. The crash was minor. No property damage was on the curb. The air bags deployed with excessive force. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle was taken to a local independent dealer where it was diagnosed that an air bag replacement was needed. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was repaired cosmetically by the insurance provider. The contact believed that the impact to the curb was minor and equivalent to going over a pothole which should not have warranted an air bag deployment. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.

We hit a pot hole on a city street going 30-35 and it caused the airbags on both sides of the van to deploy. There was no damage to the van, rim, or tire. In addition, when the passenger airbag deployed my wife received a burn on her arm.

In 2020 I was driving in Sequoia national forest and hit a small pothole/erosion hole in front of a gate at approximately 2-3mph. I slightly bottomed out the car. The airbags deployed. Mild abrasion friction burns on my wrist. My wife's airbags in the passenger seat also deployed, but since we had zero forward momentum they didn't even contact her. I was told by Honda that this is my fault and that their airbag system only deployes when it should, and ultimately just filled an insurance claim. I was extremely ignorant of how not road safe my car was, and drive it home. The car was towed for repairs. I just recently learned about this complain line, so I'm submitting now in early 2024.

My 2020 Honda Odyssey started showing SRS problem error on its 4th year of ownership. Since it’s not under warranty after 3 years I spent close to 1k to replace SRS computer module by dealership from where I purchased my car. Same error came back a month later and again I took it to dealer and they said it has loose connection on cable and fix the loose connection. About a month later SRS light came back again and then I took it to dealer and he said connection is good but one of the connector is not sending the signal to SRS module. They asked me to replace entire SRS module wiring which will be around 4k which might resolve this problem. I reported this problem to Honda Corporate and waiting for their response. Since it is SRS problem, I am more concern to drive the my car with Kids. If I meet an accident and airbag won’t deploy then it will be risk for me and my family.
