9/22/2026- the car idle stop failed to restart at a intersection. 9/23/2026- the car did not start after stopping to get gas. I have not taken it to the dealer yet. Will do it as soon as I get a chance. When the idle stop fails the car shift into parking and only the accessories are on.
2025 Honda Odyssey experienced an Auto Idle Stop no-restart condition. While stopped at a traffic light, the Auto Idle Stop system shut the engine off, but the engine failed to restart when attempting to proceed. The vehicle was disabled at an intersection, creating a potential safety hazard.
Auto stop start sometimes doesn't work even though battery was just replaced. Sitting at stoplight and when the car turns off with auto stop it does not turn on automatically when trying to move the car. Have to cycle the ignition and sometimes does not start.
Problem with the idle auto off feature failing in traffic. Will be driving fine, come up to a stop (at a stoplight, stop sign, etc) and the engine will shut off as intended with auto off, but engine will then fail to restart/stall. Have to push the start button on/off several times before the engine will restart and we can continue driving, the delay leads to safety concerns and possibility of an accident with traffic behind us accelerating expecting our vehicle to be moving or other drivers not being able to predict our actions due to erratic start/stop. There is no option to permanently disable the auto start/stop. No warning or maintenance lights indicating there's a problem. This issue has happened 5-10 times since we purchased the vehicle late 2024. We have not taken the vehicle in to the dealer yet.
Multiple instances of the auto start not reengaging while stopped at intersection. Have to completely shut off and restart vehicle.
This car has on multiple occasions now just turned off the Enginee when stop at a stop light and the Enginee idle feature is on. It makes you restart the car when you are trying to go from a stop light this is dangerous and causes angry driver behind you. I took my one year old car to the Honda dealership and they said they couldn’t help. This is a safety issue. It’s happening more and more frequently
Component and availability: The engine fails to restart after Auto Idle Stop shuts it off and now also fails to start on normal starts. The failure involves the Auto Idle Stop system and the engine starting system. The vehicle is available for inspection on request. What happened and safety risk: On approximately 8/5, I was stopped at a stop sign with Auto Idle Stop engaged. The engine shut off as designed but did not restart when I released the brake, and the vehicle automatically shifted into Park. The start button would not restart the engine, the vehicle could not be shifted out of Park, and the button also would not turn the vehicle off. The vehicle was stranded in an active intersection, where other drivers had to go around it, until it eventually restarted after several tries. Since then we have turned off Auto Idle Stop on every drive, but the vehicle has now also failed to start on normal starts: 9/17, 9/18 and several others in the 8/5-9/17 period. The car would not crank and start, it would only start after several (3-5) tries. A vehicle that cannot be reliably started or restarted risks leaving the driver and passengers stranded in traffic or unsafe locations. Dealer confirmation: This car has been seen by the dealer previously (i.e., in summer 2025) with the same issue, and had battery and starter system replaced. However, the issue recurred after several months. This vehicle appears to fall within NHTSA investigation EA25004 (Auto Idle Stop failure to restart). Warning signs: No warning lamps or messages appeared before or during the failures; dashboard and interior lights worked normally throughout. The only earlier symptom was slow or rough engine restarts after Auto Idle Stop on hot days.
During auto idle stop (usually happens after more than 5 seconds in idle stop) the van will stall (put itself in park and engine turns off). Restarting takes approximately 30 seconds because the van will not turn back on right away no matter how many times the ignition/start button is pressed. I was advised by the dealership we purchased the van from, to allow it to happen more frequently so that it can be properly diagnosed so we have not been turning off the auto idle stop. But I feel this is a safety issue and should be addressed immediately.
My 2025 Honda Odyssey has repeatedly failed to automatically restart after the Auto Idle Stop system shuts the engine off while stopped at traffic lights or in stop-and-go highway traffic. The problem began approximately four months ago and is intermittent, occurring roughly once per week. When the problem occurs, the Auto Idle Stop system shuts the engine off normally while the driver is stopped with a foot on the brake. When the driver releases the brake, the engine does not restart as it should; instead, the vehicle automatically shifts into Park and the instrument panel displays “Accessory Mode” or similar wording. The driver must then press the brake pedal and push the engine start/stop button repeatedly to restart the vehicle. So far, the vehicle has eventually restarted each time, but it can take approximately 2–3 minutes and multiple attempts. This creates a significant safety hazard because the vehicle becomes disabled in an active traffic lane, including at busy intersections and in stop-and-go highway traffic, while the driver attempts to restart it.
My auto start-stop idle function is malfunctioning. When I stop at a traffic stop light or the car comes to a stop, the car completely stalls when pressing the accelerator to go forward. This is resulting in very confusing and chaotic situations in the middle of the road with cars behind me honking. I need to turn off the engine completely and then wait a few seconds and then restart the car before going again. This is creating hazardous conditions on the road for my family and other cars.
Vehicle auto engine stop engages at intersections. Car fails to restart when system is supposed to reengage. The vehicle then has to have ignition restarted causing unanticipated dangerous situations. There is no warning that the system will fail to reengage and the problem is intermittent. This has happened several different times causing dangerous traffic hazards.
Screen wont turn on, it just stays black, sometimes it will start to work sometimes it doesnt without the car being turned off and turned back on. Apple and android play dont work always, it just randomly decides to work sometimes
This vehicle will randomly turn these features on and instead of keeping you in your lane pull you off the road, I have had to pull over to turn the vehicle off to get it to turn off
The vehicle will slam on its brakes with nothing around it. This has happened more times than I can count now and has almost caused us to wreck on multiple occasions
The van got stuck in park after backing out of a parking lot. Changed to drive but gear shift back to park. Have to restarted the car twice. People were honking nonstop. This is not safe.
The Auto Idle Stop system intermittently fails to restart the engine after the system shuts the engine off while the vehicle is stopped. When this happens, the vehicle remains disabled and I have to completely restart the vehicle before I can continue driving. This has happened twice while stopped in highway traffic. On both occasions, traffic began moving while my vehicle failed to restart, creating an immediate crash risk and nearly resulting in collisions from vehicles behind me. The problem is intermittent. The vehicle has previously been brought to a Honda dealership for this concern, but the failure continues. I have contacted the dealership again and have also contacted the manufacturer regarding the issue. There were no consistent warning signs before the failure. The problem occurs after the Auto Idle Stop system activates. Because the vehicle may fail to restart unexpectedly in active traffic, I am concerned that the condition presents a serious safety risk to the occupants of the vehicle and surrounding motorists. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This condition appears consistent with NHTSA Engineering Analysis EA25-004 involving Auto Idle Stop no-restart complaints on Honda Odyssey vehicles.
The vehicle experiences a sudden and complete engine stall while at a complete stop in traffic (such as a red light) due to a failure of the Auto Idle Stop (AIS) system. The engine shuts down smoothly as intended by the fuel-saving feature, but fails to restart when the brake pedal is released or the accelerator is pressed. The vehicle drops into a total shutdown state, requiring the driver to fully shift into Park, switch the ignition completely off, and manually press the Start button to restart the engine. No warning lights, error codes, or dashboard messages appear before, during, or after the failure. This creates a severe safety hazard by leaving the vehicle unexpectedly stranded and unresponsive in active intersections.
My vehicle has failed to restart numerous times at stoplights with the auto start engaged. It also failed once when it was disengaged. It also stalls to start on initial start quite often. Even when it is disengaged, upon stopping my vehicle makes a type of quiver in the engine that sounds like a stall or like it is about to cut off. It usually evens out after 5-10 seconds. I had people drive around me, in heavy traffic, after a major fail at a red light. I had an aggressive drive pass around me quickly at another incident at a smaller redlight intersection. I have had it cut off, with my family, over 50mls away from home. A dealership replaced my battery that was under warranty. I was told there were no other issues and to keep my auto start disengaged while driving. I'm not sure that is my safest option at this point. I am extremely concerned it will happen at an intersection and I will roll into traffic with my family.
My 2025 Odyssey stalls. The engine will turn off when I am stopped and will take at least 2 retries to get the engine to turn over. Once I was at a stop light on an interstate off ramp when it stalled. Once I was at a stop sign when it stalled. Twice I have been unable to start it at a store. I will settle the brake & push the start button & nothing will happen. I will try again. I have to take my foot fully off the brake, wait a few seconds, & try the steps again. It eventually starts, but I'm afraid that someone will hit me and hurt my children or myself as I'm a sitting duck.
The idle restart function causes the van to shut off completely when at stop lights in heavy traffic. It does not immediately restart and we have to sit in traffic while folk are honking at us to go. It doesn’t do this every time, but has happened 3 times in the last 3 months.
The contact owns a 2025 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while at a complete stop in traffic, the Auto START/STOP system failed to restart the vehicle on several occasions, and the vehicle was manually restarted. The contact stated that the failure had become more frequent and posed a safety risk for the family. The manufacturer, American Honda, was notified of the failure by phone, and the contact was provided a case number and referred to a dealer to have the vehicle repaired under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.
On Tuesday, September 8, 2026 while sitting idle at a red light I had my foot on the brake and when the light turned green, I went to push on the gas and the van would not go, nearly causing the car behind me to rear end me because they figured I was going since it was a green light. I turned my hazard lights on, and there was a warning that appeared on the dash but I did not catch what it said in time. When I looked down, the car had put itself in park so I shut the van off and when I turned the van back on, there was a red battery light on the dash and it said “ to continue to drive depress brake pedal and push switch”. The van would not go into gear so I then had to call police (I was blocking a traffic lane) and a tow truck. The van is still at our local Honda dealer where it was purchased and to my knowledge has not been looked at-today is day three of the dealership having possession of the van. Also, on the same day-two stop lights previous to this it had a severe lag from brake to gas.
The auto idle system shuts off the vehicle completely at a stoplight or intersection and fails to restart when you release the brake. The vehicle is stuck in traffic and doesn’t restart for a few minutes mine had to be jumped started this THIRD time it happened. This created a hazardous safety condition for my family in which kids are always traveling. The dealer has not provided solution. Concerned this can cause a fatality because I can get rear ended.
I drove my kids 5 miles to school and was on my way back home going thru a school zone with a stop sign. As I stopped at a 4 way stop car went into idle and I went to proceed and car stalled and automatically went into park. I had to wave people around me. Luckily I was able to still put on hazards. The battery light came on, but I was unable to restart my car after several attempts. I opened my door to wave on more people and when I tried to start my car again it finally started. I am so luckily I wasn't at a busy intersection and took a different route home and lucky my kids weren't in the back either. This was very scary and am now worried for it happening again.
My vehicle has been failing to restart at stoplights after the auto start/shutoff turns off the vehicle. Instances where it does start, the starter frequently struggles to kick the engine over and when it does fire the vehicle jerks forward before driving.
