Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

The defect: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2024 XL750, 2025 CMX1100, and CRF1100 motorcycles. The crankcase sealing bolt may have been improperly manufactured, which can cause the engine to leak oil onto the rear tire.
The risk: Oil on the rear tire may cause a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
The remedy: Dealers will replace the crankcase sealing bolt, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 15, 2025. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-866-784-1870. Honda's number for this recall is KS2.

Engine
Filed Jun 27, 2026

The engine shut off while bike was in motion, restarted but throttle would not respond. Restart, shut off, ignition switch off, and restart required before throttle will respond. Since it did this when hitting bumps, suspect was the side stand. New spring was installed and it stopped the engine shut off for a short period. Then any quick acceleration or bumps started shutting off the engine requiring the restart sequence. Change the Honda side stand switch, metered the old switch, the contact point were so close and variable that indicated the side stand was down when it wasn't which would cause the engine to shut down. Luckily there were no failures on freeways or interstates as it was dangerous enough on a motorcycle on any road.

Brakes
Filed May 7, 2025

May 7, 2025 - Bike mileage 7,140, over year old, and out of warranty. The brake system has not been touched prior to this incident. I slowed down using both front and rear brakes as usual for traffic and as I attempted to resume 40 mph the motor started struggling and bike slowed radically. At a nearby turn off to gravel parking lot, I turned into and nearly dropping the bike, and noticed the front brake lever had no take up. Got the bike off the pavement and discovered as I attempted to push the bike further into the parking lot, the front wheel would not turn. The front brakes were locked up. My son determined the return hydraulic fluid orifice at master cylinder was blocked due to manufacturing debris and not releasing the hydraulic pressure locking the front brakes. To insure system was free of debris my son disassembled and cleaned the master cylinder, cleared the return orifice of debris, disassembled and cleaned the calipers, pistons and flushed the lines. Assembled, bleed the lines with vacuum pump. Brakes are working to spec. Front brakes locking up on motorcycle is deadly. If would have been on a freeway doing 65 mph, i would have been flipped over the handle bars, dropped the bike, or both me and the motorcycle would have flipped over.

Manufacturer communications

A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

POWER TRAIN

Service Bulletin - American Honda is launching a PRODUCT UPDATE on CERTAIN 2024 model year XL750R TRANSALP motorcycles to update the owner’s manual. The owner’s manual originally supplied with affected XL750R TRANSALP motorcycles is missing the instructions that describe how to understand and safely operate the Quick Shifter feature.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
