2020 Hyundai Palisade Other / unspecified Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the other system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Other / unspecified reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

1. The paint (all the way down to the metal), in more than 3 spots, has started peeling off. 2 spots are about 2 feet each, so about 4 feet in total of missing paint. The silver on my rims has also started to peel off. 2. Paint has peeled off in large chunks which is unsafe. 3. The paint has been seen by service technicians at Autonation, where I bought it from and service at a Hyundai dealership. 4. I have not filed a claim with insurance yet as it was recommended by both Autonation and the dealership that it is a manufacturer defect and needs to be fixed by them. They both stated I could pay to have it repainted but it would just start chipping again since it is a manufacturer defect. The primer on the entire car was not applied properly so the paint is not sticking, hence why the paint has peeled all the way down to the metal. Just before I bought it, the paint had peeled on the hood and Autonation repainted it back in October of 2024 and the paint has started peeling in the same spot as of February of 2025. The 2 spots that have 2 feet of paint gone happened all in one day back in Decmeber 2024. No wreck, no damage to the car, I just walked out after driving it and paint was gone. 5. Both Autonation and the dealership said they had never seen anything like this and this is a manufacturer defect 100%. No one wants to touch it since they have all claimed it will just peel again and I'll be right back in the shop a month later.

Magnetic chest clip malfunctions, does not fasten properly. The car seat is not designs to replace the chest clip with a functioning replacement. This allowed my child to unrestrain herself easily and posed a hazard to her in case of a wreck.

The rear shocks on my vehicle were checked and the left rear is requiring replacement at approximately 33K miles. The leakage was gradual and after the ride became noticeably rough, I took it for diagnosis at Safford Brown in Fairfax, VA. A failed left rear shock was confirmed. I am replacing to make the ride bearable, and in researching the issue, learned of a TSB for my model year issued by Hyundai for rear shock problems. I will request that the dealer keep the bad components if needed for further action to be pursued with Hyundai. The service advisor also noted very uneven wear on three tires which I believe to be directly caused by the gradual failure of the shock. An alignment was recommended. I have been advised by the service advisor and technician that the right rear shock is intact and does not require replacement at this time.

I have only had this car for 1.5 years and about 6months ago I keep hearing a thump from rear suspension then the alignment started going off pulling to the right. Take it to tire kingdom to be aligned and they told me the shocks are leaking. Go to dealer and they took one week to say one shock is bad but part will take another week to get here I tried to get them to change both as the tsb I found 22-ss-001h but they refuse and will only change one. How can I get them to follow this tsb? As at the moment the car dose not feel safe to drive and I shoul not be responsible for this issue of changing both shocks properly. Dealers should not be able to fight things like this as they avoiusly know thers issues but they won't honor it. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated, otherwise I may have to get lawyers involved. Thank you for you time.

My tire was losing air so we took it to a local tire shop to be repaired thinking it had a nail in it or something. Turns out it was losing air because the wheel was cracked and slightly bent. The only 2 people who drive this car are my husband and I and neither of us could recall hitting or running over anything. The Hyundai dealer refused to submit a warranty claim (car had 16,200 miles on it), so we called Hyundai corporate and they submitted a warranty claim that would be assigned to a case manager and they would get back to us. That was 5/24 and by 6/15 we still hadn't heard anything back from them in spite of calling 3 more times to check the status of the case. I believe either this particular wheel was defective or the engineering design of the wheel is wrong. We still have the wheel for inspection. No warning lights other than the low tire pressure warning came on. The dealer inspected the wheel twice and Les Schwab (tire place) inspected it twice and installed a used ("take-off") wheel for us yesterday. The tire had no damage and there was no damage of any kind anywhere on my car, so I find it hard to believe that we could have hit something so hard to crack the wheel but had no other damage and couldn't remember any such event. The crack is over 1 inch long and absolutely could have caused a blowout or accident, so we weren't able to use the car much for a month except right around our home.
