2025 Hyundai Tucson Engine Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the engine system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Engine reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The cars speedometer screen and radio screen go black and sometimes flicker on and off. This makes it impossible to see the speed. Also the car stalls sometimes when this happens in traffic. The autonomous braking applies the brakes even when there is a large distance from other cars and objects to the point where it has almost caused me to get into an accident on numerous occasions. The driver attention alert comes on and off over and over again even though I’m fully focused on driving and well aware of what is going on and this sometimes happens in a sequence where all of the warning lights illuminate on dash. Sometimes all of the warning lights display on cluster after it goes black and then car says to shift to park when display goes back on causing safety concerns for me in traffic. In addition my sunroof glass is making a loud noise like it’s going to crack.

Vehicle has failed to start with NO WARNING LIGHTS (completely blank infotainment screen) and no sounds when start button is pressed. Vehicle also completely shuts down when stopping in traffic and takes several attempts at restarting before the vehicle actually starts and able to move. This is a SEVERE LIFE THREATENING OR SERIOS INJURY SITUATION that Hyundai seems to have no interest in solving. Incidents have been video when safety is not an issue.

While driving my car to Virginia to see my daughter, the oil light came on in the middle of a highway, where the speed limit was 70, The car slowed down and I had to pull off to the shoulder as the car lost all acceleration, making it very dangerous on a highway I waited for about 2 hours for a tow truck I waited for almost 2 months to get my car back and it happened again after having it back for a little over a week Mind you, I bought the car brand new with 45 miles on it and the first problem happened a little over 2 weeks after I bought it Hopefully this can be resolved so that my car doesn’t spend more time being serviced than me driving it

The engine dipstick plastic bottom presents an issue to remove dipstick. Dipstick must be wiggled or twisted as it is pulled up without force for removal. The engine head and block holes are not in perfect alignment. The concern is if the dipstick is removed by force the plastic on the end of dipstick could be broken off and end up in the oil pan. That could cause engine damage and a possible safety issue losing power. Hyundai National Consumer Affairs has been notified but states they cannot report a design complaint directly. They offered the NHTSA as a place to report this concern. This was also experienced on another same make/model car on dealers' lot.

Vehiclr has been doing this since 4 montbs after purchase, then a recall came out we were told it would fix the problem. 3 times now since the recall the odometer screen and media screen will go blank while your driving. The car wont accelerate, turn signals, and steering colum becomes hard to operate properly. We have had to near accidents 1 being less than 2 hours in August of 2025 after Hyundai just claimed to repair the issue. We were driving on [XXX], screen went out, we lost full control of steering, had to wrestle with the wheel to keep car in its lane, we were almost hit by semi truck and ran off road. We immediately took car back to dealership, and shop assistant mgr was able to see for himself, it wasnt working after theu just made repair. They kept car a few days we were very reluctant to take vehicle back, out of these safety concerns, and my family having to ride in this vehicle. We took ot back as the dealership assured us the matter had been taken care. Then last week on [XXX], in the evening was driving down street and the screens started to flicker and the car wouldnt stay centeryed in the lane, then it happened both went blank, the car slowed down and the fight began on operating vehicle. In regards to no turn signal would go off, it wouldnt accelerate, the steering wouldnt operate correctly, if O wanted to center the car in the lane, it would pull the car another direction. A 7 minute ride home took over 20 minutes. We took car back to World Hyundai Matteson, the next morning and called Hyundai Corporate office to inform them we didnt want the vehicle back. On Sept.12,2025, I was driving with two family members. i was stopped at a light with the auto on/off engaged. Fortunately, i had my foot on the brake as the engine revved very significantly. I threw the car into neutral and the engine returned to normal. Had I not done so, we would have plowed into two cars in front of us at the light. The car was taken to the dealership; but, they could not duplicate a recurrence in road testing.

My entire dashboard goes black and I lose all directions and functions in car. It happens when driving often. Additionally after taking to dealership, it's getting worse. Now warning lights come on and stay on such as master warning lights, batteries, power steering, etc. AC shuts off, the car misses out when driving between 25 and 30 mph. The dealership told me it's not safe to drive.

I leased a brand new 2025 Hyundai Tucson on March 15, 2025, with fewer than 10 miles on the odometer. Shortly after driving an additional 10 miles, the vehicle’s screen malfunctioned, displaying burn-in and becoming non-functional. This issue significantly affects safety, as it renders the backup camera unusable during operation. The vehicle was first brought in for service on March 17, 2025, but the issue was not resolved. Subsequent service attempts were made on March 20, April 9, and most recently on April 11, 2025. As of today, the problem remains unresolved. The vehicle has been in the service center for approximately 15 days since the date of purchase. In addition to the defective screen, the vehicle failed to start on one occasion, leaving me stranded alone in a parking lot, stuck in accessory mode with the brake locked. The car has also exhibited alignment issues, consistently pulling to the left while driving, which has required two alignments since the purchase date.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
