Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2025 Hyundai Tucson, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

My 2025 Hyundai Tucson required the front brake rotors to be resurfaced at approximately 12,200 miles. The Hyundai dealership diagnosed the rotors as overheated and warped, despite the brake pads being in good condition. The repair occurred before Hyundai issued Recall 302 (NHTSA Recall 26V-316). Hyundai Recall 302 identifies a defect in the Forward Collision-Avoidance (FCA) system’s front-camera software that can cause the FCA system to engage earlier than expected and potentially result in sudden braking. Hyundai’s FCA system is capable of automatically applying the brakes. I am concerned that premature or unintended brake application associated with this recalled software condition may have contributed to excessive brake heat and premature overheating/warping of my front rotors. I am NOT claiming that this causal relationship has been established. Rather, I am reporting a potential safety defect and asking NHTSA to evaluate whether there may be a relationship. The dealership confirmed that the rotors were overheated/warped but characterized the condition as wear and tear. Hyundai Motor America subsequently denied my reimbursement request on the same basis. I have repeatedly asked Hyundai to evaluate whether Recall 302 could have contributed to the brake condition, but Hyundai has not acknowledged or technically addressed this potential relationship. The original rotors are no longer available for inspection because they were resurfaced during the repair. The dealership performed and documented the diagnosis and repair. I am submitting this complaint because I believe the combination of premature rotor overheating/warping at only 12,200 miles and a subsequently identified FCA defect involving unexpected braking warrants investigation.

The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA) warning light was intermittently illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and attributed the issue to inclement weather. The contact stated that while stopped, the vehicle was rear-ended because the brake lights failed to illuminate. The contact sustained lower back and shoulder injuries, was transported by ambulance to the hospital, and required ongoing injection treatments. A Police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and repaired for rear-end and passenger-side damages; however, the cause of the brake lights' failure was not determined. Additionally, the contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a complete stop at a traffic light, the vehicle stalled and was struck on the front driver's side by another vehicle. The crash caused the vehicle to spin, and the front end detached. The air bags failed to deploy, and a system failure message was displayed. The contact sought medical attention the following day. The contact sustained a dislodged left thumb bone which required surgery, a cast, and injections for left arm pain, as well as shoulder, neck, hip, and aggravated lower back pain. A Police report was filed. The second failure had occurred at [XXX]. The vehicle was towed to the auto body shop at the dealer and repaired; however, neither the dealer nor the insurance adjuster determined the cause of the vehicle stalling. The contact associated the failure with an unknown recall notification. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was unknown. The rear door locks and trunk lid do not always unlock. This creates a safety concern for rear passengers because they cannot easily exit the car because door won't unlock. The dealership says issue is intermittent yet it's still happening.

I was intending to make a left hand turn out of a dinner parking lot. As I approached the exit, I saw that a car was about to drive past me preventing me from making that turn, so I put my foot on the brake pedal to stop my car and let the vehicle safely pass in front of me. But the brake did not work. It did not stop my car. The pedal felt limp not firm I turned sharply to the left to avoid striking the other vehicle. Fortunately no other cars were coming in either direction. I put the car in neutral and then in park. Only by the grace of God a collision was averted. I then restarted the car, the brake pedal was now firm again and I drove home. I returned home and left the car in my driveway until Monday, July 13 when I had a tow truck take the vehicle to the dealer. This is not the first time my brakes became soft and limp and failed to stop my car. There have been at least two or three previous incidents over the the past months while backing out of a parking space, the brake pedal became limp. In those instances I was able to stop the vehicle by putting it in park. When I restarted the vehicle, the brake returned to being firm. These incidents are intermittent. I don't know when and where they will occur. To date, the dealer claims not to have found anything wrong with my brakes. Apparently, unless they can replicate my experience directly themselves, they intend to send me on my merry way. I don't consider the vehicle is safe to drive. The intermittent problems I have had with the brakes all occurred in exiting parking lots and not on the highway at 55 MPH - fortunately. These incidents occurred. The brakes have failed

Good morning the problems I am having with my 2025 are very discouraging. Started October of 2025, my tire light illuminated stated the tires were low when they are all at correct specs when using an air guage to check. November of 2025 while driving at night the headlights suddenly shut off briefly then came back back on. January of 2026 while leaving work the transmission would not shift, held accelerator pedal to floor but could not go above 20 mph all the way home for 3 miles. April of 2026 the right side of navigation screen went completely black, shut vehicle off twice and on third restart the screen reilluminated. June of 2026 same thing with the screen going black. I have had my Tuscon at the local dealer here in my town for supposedly a repair that they state was a "coaxel cable" behind the dash that was fixed that was causing this issue. I also had the recall performed for the front view camera software update but it is still showing not completed. This is very frustrating to be having experiencing these kind of issues on this new of a vehicle. Clearly something is going on with the software or something and the dealer keeps telling me they are not finding anything wrong. I am a service advisor myself at a small independent shop so I understand the terms they are using but something needs to be addressed to correct the issues that I am having. It is scary when driving and the screen goes black or driving at night and losing the headlight functions. I would appreciate if somebody will look into this and reach out to me to get some kind of remedy for why this is happening. I am paying alot for this vehicle and to say I am satisifed is an understatement. I have purchased Hyundai as my choice of vehicle due to the quality, great warranties and good reviews from other consumers however I am seriously thinking of exploring alternative makes as I do not want to keep going through this. Plus the engine consumes oil. I have attached p/w for review as well

The cars speedometer screen and radio screen go black and sometimes flicker on and off. This makes it impossible to see the speed. Also the car stalls sometimes when this happens in traffic. The autonomous braking applies the brakes even when there is a large distance from other cars and objects to the point where it has almost caused me to get into an accident on numerous occasions. The driver attention alert comes on and off over and over again even though I’m fully focused on driving and well aware of what is going on and this sometimes happens in a sequence where all of the warning lights illuminate on dash. Sometimes all of the warning lights display on cluster after it goes black and then car says to shift to park when display goes back on causing safety concerns for me in traffic. In addition my sunroof glass is making a loud noise like it’s going to crack.

Vehicle has failed to start with NO WARNING LIGHTS (completely blank infotainment screen) and no sounds when start button is pressed. Vehicle also completely shuts down when stopping in traffic and takes several attempts at restarting before the vehicle actually starts and able to move. This is a SEVERE LIFE THREATENING OR SERIOS INJURY SITUATION that Hyundai seems to have no interest in solving. Incidents have been video when safety is not an issue.

The underbody shield is held up partially by plastic nuts that get loose casing the shield to rattle at speed over 60mpg. I read multiple reports from other owners on reddit. Tightening these plastic nuts help ressolve the rattle temporarly, but the nuts are flimsy and keep spinning. You can't really tighten them well. A good remedy from Hyundai would be to replace these flimsy plastic nuts with metal ones that stay tightened and secure the underbody shield in place. Dealer wasn't helpful and wanted to charge $200 just to look at it

Vehiclr has been doing this since 4 montbs after purchase, then a recall came out we were told it would fix the problem. 3 times now since the recall the odometer screen and media screen will go blank while your driving. The car wont accelerate, turn signals, and steering colum becomes hard to operate properly. We have had to near accidents 1 being less than 2 hours in August of 2025 after Hyundai just claimed to repair the issue. We were driving on [XXX], screen went out, we lost full control of steering, had to wrestle with the wheel to keep car in its lane, we were almost hit by semi truck and ran off road. We immediately took car back to dealership, and shop assistant mgr was able to see for himself, it wasnt working after theu just made repair. They kept car a few days we were very reluctant to take vehicle back, out of these safety concerns, and my family having to ride in this vehicle. We took ot back as the dealership assured us the matter had been taken care. Then last week on [XXX], in the evening was driving down street and the screens started to flicker and the car wouldnt stay centeryed in the lane, then it happened both went blank, the car slowed down and the fight began on operating vehicle. In regards to no turn signal would go off, it wouldnt accelerate, the steering wouldnt operate correctly, if O wanted to center the car in the lane, it would pull the car another direction. A 7 minute ride home took over 20 minutes. We took car back to World Hyundai Matteson, the next morning and called Hyundai Corporate office to inform them we didnt want the vehicle back. The FAWS Forward Assistance Warning System incorrectly identifies a "sleepy driver" and turns off Adaptive Cruise Control. FAWS has a dozen triggers that will cause this system to incorrectly alert the driver that his eyes aren't looking at the road and it turns off ACC. The FAWS has a turn off switch but it does not turn it off. So, without this safety feature of Adaptive Cruise Control, the driver just gets constant alerts to stay alert. Hyundai claims it is working "as designed" and has a suggestion to invest in specific sunglasses, or not be taller than 6'1" so the eyes can be detected, or don't wear a hat. Seriously, these are in the manual.

NHTSA Vehicle Safety Complaint Report I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious safety defect involving the rear seatbelt in my 2025 Hyundai Tucson Limited. The vehicle currently has approximately 6,000 miles, and this issue has created an extremely dangerous situation for passengers. While traveling out of town, the rear passenger seatbelt suddenly jammed and would not retract or release properly. The belt became completely stuck and unusable. Three adults attempted to safely unjam the seatbelt, but it would not retract or function as designed. Because the restraint system failed, the rear seating position became unsafe and unusable. We were forced to arrange alternate transportation for our passenger because it was not safe or legal for them to ride without a functioning seatbelt. This failure represents a major safety concern. A seatbelt is a critical safety component that should never lock up or become permanently jammed under normal use, especially on a nearly new vehicle with very low mileage. The inability to secure a passenger created a hazardous situation and could have resulted in serious injury if an accident had occurred. I am contacting Hyundai Customer Affairs today to formally report this safety issue. I will also be taking the vehicle to the dealership for inspection and repair, as I do not feel it is safe to drive the vehicle until the defective seatbelt is properly repaired and confirmed safe. Given that seatbelt failures directly impact occupant safety, I believe this issue requires immediate investigation. A restraint system that becomes stuck and cannot be used is unacceptable and poses a significant risk to drivers and passengers. I am requesting that NHTSA review this defect, investigate potential manufacturing or design problems, and determine whether other vehicles may be affected.

Had an issue with driver assist radar when in complete control. Until you’re not! Brakes lock up skidding tires and causing seat belts to lock up. It happens so suddenly it scares you to the point of heart attack. This has happened: merely backing out of driveway, when accelerating in your lane with car in turn lane beside you turning right. And most recently on FL Turnpike while in stopped/slowed traffic due to emergency vehicles trying to get to scene of Naples wildfire. When I accelerated as traffic resumed at slow speed the car locks up brakes, squalling tires and slewing sideways. It startled me so much my heart was racing and I didn’t know if the car was still running or not. There was an 18 wheeler coming up behind and I was frozen not knowing what to do next. I don’t know if sensitivity can be adjusted or what it needs but my heart can’t take many more of these incidents. I will report to dealer as well. I know there is a Reddit thread about these same issues that my daughter found on researching this issue.

While driving a 2025 Hyundai Tucson rental vehicle (VIN: [XXX] ), I experienced a sudden and unintended acceleration, and the steering appeared to turn without input. The vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree on a local street two blocks from my residence. The result was the wheel was popped off of it's axel and deflated immediately. Two days prior, I experienced a similar event in the same vehicle — sudden acceleration and braking hard making a loud braking noise. I suspect a mechanical or electronic malfunction. No warning or sensors were alerting me that this would happen. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While driving my car to Virginia to see my daughter, the oil light came on in the middle of a highway, where the speed limit was 70, The car slowed down and I had to pull off to the shoulder as the car lost all acceleration, making it very dangerous on a highway I waited for about 2 hours for a tow truck I waited for almost 2 months to get my car back and it happened again after having it back for a little over a week Mind you, I bought the car brand new with 45 miles on it and the first problem happened a little over 2 weeks after I bought it Hopefully this can be resolved so that my car doesn’t spend more time being serviced than me driving it
