Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data
Data refreshed
Our database contains 3 NHTSA owner-reported complaints for the 2020 INFINITI Q50, most frequently naming the brakes, driver assistance and engine categories. 127 manufacturer communications are on file.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.
When owners filed reports about this model year
Not enough dated records to plot a meaningful trend — 3 months of data.
Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded
Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.
No recalls in our database for this model year
That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

Ever since I got the vehicle transmission is trying to give out on the vehicle takes too long to shift gears, takes more rpm to shift gears
Recently, the turbochargers on my vehicle failed prematurely and had to be replaced. Shortly after this repair, and with the vehicle still under 60,000 miles, the engine exploded and failed while driving. This incident posed a severe safety hazard not only to me but to other drivers and pedestrians as I lost propulsion and had to swerve to the shoulder to avoid oncoming traffic. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the sudden failure could have led to a much worse outcome as not only did it fail but hot oil and coolant both poured out of the hole in the engine creating a hazard. I believe this failure is not only unacceptable for a vehicle with such relatively low mileage, but it may indicate a systemic or design flaw, particularly if turbo and engine failure is a recurring issue among other owners of this make and model. I am aware of Infiniti’s current engine recall for select vehicles for premature engine failure and would like to know should this be extended to Q50 model.
FORWARD EMERGENCY BRAKING (FEB) ACTIVATING WHEN NOT NEEDED. JANUARY 11TH 2020 FIRST DAY OF OWNING INFNITI Q50 LUXE 3.0T NO PACKAGES, ONLY FEB (WHICH IS STANDARD ON ALL Q50 NOW) DRIVING HOME FROM KELLY INFINITI OF DENVERS, MA DEALERSHIP. ALLEN RD EXTENTION - SPEED LIMIT 30MPH, SLIGHTLY WINDY ROAD, WET, POSSIBILITY OF BLACK ICE. ALL OF A SUDDEN, WITH NOT A SINGLE CAR AHEAD OF ME AND NO CARS GOING TOWARD ME - CAR STARTS TO BRAKE LIKE COLLUSSION TO SOME IMAGINARY OBJECT IS UNAVOIDABLE. WAS ABLE TO STAY ON THE ROAD. FEW DAYS AFTER THAT - DRIVING FROM NASHUA, NH TO MY HOUSE AT 159 ALLEN RD BY HIGHWAY RT 3 (55 MPH). DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE LANE, SWITCHING INTO THE LEFT LANE TO PASS SLOW MOVING CAR IN MIDDLE LANE. THERE ARE TWO CARS IN THE LEFT LANE AND PLENTY OF SPACE IN BETWEEN THEM. DISTANCE TO THE CAR AHEAD OF ME IN LEFT LANE IS ABOUT 10-12 YEARDS. TO THE CAR BEHIND - 15-20 YEARDS. ALL OF A SUDDNE WHEN I ALREADY MOVED INTO THE LEFT LANE CAR STARTS TO BRAKE LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW, CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST REAR ENDED ME. WHAT WAS WORSE - THE PERSON IN THAT CAR THOUGHT I DID THAT ON PURPOSE AND CRAZY PERSON STARTS TO CHASE ME SITTING DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO MY REAR BUMPER. THEN HE/SHE PASSES ME AND HITS THE BRAKES IN FRONT OF ME - I BARELY AVOIDED REAR ENDING THAT CAR AT HIGHWAY SPEED. FRIDAY JANUARY 24TH 2020 DRIVING ON RT 3 (SPEED LIMIT 55MPH) DRIVING IN THE RIGHT LANE, SLOW MOVING TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME, CHANGING LANE TO THE LEFT (MIDDLE LANE), IN THE PROCESS OF PASSING THE TRUCK - ALREADY DRIVING BY THE TRUCK'S SIDE - ALL OF A SUDDNE CAR STARTS TO BRAKE SO HARD THAT CAR STATS TO SWAY AND I SEE IN THE RIGHT REAR VIEW MIRROW THAT TRUNK OF MY CAR IS UNDER THE TRUCK. MIRCIOUSLY I WAS ABLE TO MANAGE TO ESCAPE THIS SITUATION. THIS CAR WITH THIS TECHNOLOGY IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, IT WILL CAUSE MORE ACCIDENTS THAN PREVENT.

An Order of Completion table has been provided on the next page that lists the steps required to successfully configure a TCU after it has been replaced. A CHECK-OFF SHEET has been provided on page 16. Print and check off steps as they are completed. Staple the completed CHECK-OFF SHEET to the repair order.
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
Complaint and recall counts across every year of this model
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
